The Puffit is now on Amazon if anyone is interested. I'm debating ordering it but I'm not sure if it has all the new accessories, or is the newest version. Only one way to find out I guess...
would it be possible to provide a link...i cant find it

Hi all,
I just recieved my puffit this morning and I tried it two times already,
I've got to say i LOVE it, the bad taste was a little bit there but it seems to
get less after awhile and I was amazed at how fast it's heat up time is.
I had it on six and got some nice clouds (although I don't care for clouds at all,
for me it looks like the bigger the clouds, the harder I cough)
It also included an extra package with the cloud thingy wich I installed (I haven't
tried the puffit without it yet so can't compare)
I have gone over this forum briefly so I saw lots and not that much at all so
don't kill me if this is adressed before but I did notice the battery going from green
to orange rather fast, about 15 "15 second sessions" it stayed on green and then
went to orange, might be faster too.
It might be because I have only charged it once so the battery isn't conditioned
yet, it's not that much of a problem because I have a "pebble" portable battery
charger wich can charge it at least four times :-)
I just wanted to say that I'm a fan and for me it can go on the same shelf as my pax,
inhalator, mflb and hopefully soon the cera.
I feel bad for all the people who don't like it, for me it's a great little unit.
By the way, I thank my puffit purchase for a bit to OF because as I could read here
and there on this forum he likes his puffit and gave some nice tips/mods, I knew he
has the cera to play with and if one still likes and wants to use the puffit, then it can't
be that bad, so thanks OF !

TL;DR, but the battery indicator doesn't really work.

First off you're very welcome, glad I was able to help steer you to a buying decision you're enjoying. Too bad for those who don't try, I think they're missing a fun and effective little gadget. Cera is, of course, a really different beast.....lucky we're allowed more than one vape to use and enjoy.

Secondly I fully agree with you and KoN, the battery indicator is next to useless. Let's remember it was a 'feature' added at the last minute, they seem to have done what they could with the (limited) abilities offered by the hardware they're using. I do find it useful to show if it's fully charged when I pick it up. But even when it's orange (or red and green really) it might not have enough left to get me through a long session (I tend to be quite leisurely about it sometimes and have had it 'go dead' when I'd really have liked a few more tokes. Still, better than nothing.

My biggest complaint is low battery life (I assume I'm not even close to alone here), but it's already bigger than would be nice.

I don't know, I'd like to get more than 2-3 sessions out of it. Two is average ime, three is on a good day with ideal conditions.

edit: ah perhaps 'bigger' is referring to PUFFiT physical size, and not battery size?

Sorry, yes, that's exactly what I meant. When you get inside it it's clear the battery is what's driving it's physical size (and to some extent the shape). To get more battery life would make the package bigger and it's already pushing 'shirt pocket size' IMO. In a fun way, this guy is a lot like the new Vapor Blunt, much smaller, and with a bend, and of course the use routine is different (it's session based, not hit based) but I see a lot of parallels. The VB carries a LOT more battery (two 18650s not one 14500)...at a cost.

Still, a green light and a full bowl is a guaranteed good session on tap in your pocket (or purse for those so inclined...).

I too drew those parallels from reading your and pakalolo's impressions on the VB2.0

when you guys talk about short battery life and being able to get two sessions out of it, what "time frame" are we talking about then? what's your session's duration? Because I must say, this little thing packs a good punch, or at least it does for me, and I think/guess that I can get about 5 of my sessions out of the puffit.
(let's say six or seven 15 second hits a session gets me there)
Anyway, I only used it twice, so not much play time yet, I will post my battery life later

with the cloud thingy installed, it does look like it pushes the herb so that after use it's a hard
brick wich you have to poke really good to get it back out of the chamber

(Sorry dear mods but it seems like I couldn't merge te posts somehow)

Just a quick update, I've got my puffit almost a week now and to be honest, nothing tempered my love for this little thing yet.
I must admit, it is a bit flimsy build but well....i think I actually like it better that way.
It reminds me that it is a cheap vape that can compete with the big boys, if it was build any better it would be a too big bang for the buck (or too few bucks for the bang??)
Ok...there is the plasticy taste but I find it doesn't bother me that much at all, even less when I think about the level it can get me medicated (I must admit I don't truly medicate for medical reasons but more for destressing me --- and sorry if I write some crazy mistakes, I'm dutch speaking) and the price tag.
And boy can it get me medicated...this one is a sneaker upper and hits you in the back of the head while you're waiting when the medicated feeling is going to kick in.
I know it's new and we tend to play more with our new toys but I think I will be reaching more for this device then my other vaporizers it's just so easy to maintain, charge, fill.... it might be lazyness on my behalf too of course.
The other day I filled it up with what you can say was a very modest mflb trench and it still could deliver some headbumps.
Battery is for what I read on this forum untill now actually pretty good, granted, it charges slow but thats just a very minor negative I think (I'm on page 79 and I must say it was a struggle wading trough alot of off topic, repeating after repeating, arguing etc etc kind of posts but it was nothing else than what I've seen on the pax or INH004 or cera forums)
I donated myself to sience yesterday and tried out how many 15 second pulls I could get out of the battery.
I did five sessions, used two bowls and always let the puffit fully cool down between sessions.
Temp was constantly set on six
S1 was 7 pulls
S2 was 8 pulls
S3 was 8 pulls
S4 was 12 pulls
S5 was 7 pulls
So 42 pulls al together, compared to some less fortunate people on this forum I guess that's alot.
But even if it would only be half of that I would be happy enough, it would give me two very good sessions.
Ok, I'm all rambled out I guess, sorry for those who don't like it, I would recommend it to everybody I know but only after I had them test mine so they could decide for themselves if the plastic taste would bother them or not. Oh, maybe important, I don't know but it's a blue puffit.
A good day to all.

I continue to enjoy my Puffit fairly regularly, fun and effective unit IMO.

One of my issues with it has been it's awkward for casually use. I don't think passing for an asthma inhaler is a good disguise when in use. Nobody I know takes more than a hit or two very fast on their real inhalers, nobody stares them down looking for LEDs to change color, nobody takes several hits over as many minutes.

However, lately I've been experimenting with holding it inverted in my hand. It's large, but still relatively easy to 'palm' and from a reasonable distance probably looks like I'm either practicing poor manners and picking my nose or good manners and covering yawns or coughs. I generally have little or no need for stealth, and wouldn't pick this one for that anyway, but for those that do I offer the idea for consideration.

I did notice lately that my first 15 second puffs don't last 15 seconds (does that make sense?)
the green light gets orange again much sooner, this is just for the first two or so, even on a just fully charged battery.
Anyone else noticed this? It's not bothering me or reducing the fun I have with this vape, just curious.
Also, besides OF's mods on the protective mouth sleeve I also cut out a corner on the side of the temp dial so I can acces it without ever have to get it off besides for cleaning it.
Next monday we're going to take it's stealthness to the test in Euro disney :ninja:
I'm not too scared of it not being the exact same size as a real puffer or people watching me looking for the light or whatever because normally people don't stare that long at you and if they are looking at me I just pretend it's because of my stunning looks and awesome taste for fashion
The only problem I have to overcome now is the vapor coming out of my mouth because for my likes it produces more then enough vapor.

after having this vaporizer for nearly 4 months, and getting very weak vapor production from the unit, I finally discovered a way in which you can get denser clouds of vapor in each rip.... Instead of vaping right away when you load the bowl, if you run it through 2 individual hit cycles before finally inhaling very slowly on the third, you can get legitimate vapor production. I thought this was an awful vape before, but now I'm beginning to change my mind, it might not be that bad after all.

Remember when you are doing that you are cooking your herbs. It is a conduction vape. We had discussed this way back in the thread but that was the short of it and your findings were the same.

i do realize this, however i have found that at least in the early generation of this vape, such as the one I own, the heating chamber is very inefficient, and takes a while to actually heat up enought to produce vapor, and at least for mine, one cycle is not enough to heat the botanical substratum to a high enough temperature for the compounds to boil off and form visible vapor; even on the highest temperature setting. so I run two cycles in close succession in order to heat the herb to a temperature conducive to quality vaporization.

I see you have a soon to own INH xp we will talk then hehe:lol:. You will get way more out of your herbs and way tastier.

Hopefully this will merit a response from "PUFFIT VAPORIZER"...

So I own a puffit, I like it a lot. pretty useful and cool... I was a little turned off by the silicone ring inside the heat chamber, but relaxed about it after a few uses. (everything else works great)... Then after cleaning the bowl I noticed that hidden under the screen is a bunch of silicone parts...

THE ACTUAL BOTTOM OF THE BOWL PIECE (HEAT CHAMBER) IS MADE OF SILICONE. NOT GOLD. the blend is sitting ontop of a metal screen which is pressed tightly on top of silicone. The gold is only on the sidewalls of the heat chamber... this is strange to me because the new fancy "vapor enhancer thingy" actually presses the blend down into the silcone to try to increase vapor pleasure... Not to mention just because the nature of the path the vapor is taking it is drawing against the bottom of the bowl more than any other side.... the walls of the chamber heat up, and then ALL of that hot air is drawn over Silicone. Every hit drawn over the hottest spot in the mechanism, which is lined in silicone.

I bought this vaporizer with the hopes of medicating still while decreasing the damage done to my lungs. (if only a little bit)

My concern is that my rolling papers may be as harmful as melting silicone (which depending on grade can melt anywhere from 250- 500 F... is this apparatus gets up to 450 F by its own admission I am a little nervous...

I like this thing a lot and would like to keep using it. looking for someone to reply with something to put me at ease again so i can enjoy this neat little toy.

thanks

Don't worry about silicone melting..... when I use my EQ, I use a bowl covered by silicone so it won't break, the silicone can manage 220C easily and does not extract any harmful toxin.

Agreed, there are a good number of silicone rubbers with service temperature ratings within that range, even exceeding that temperature. That's working temperature, where full physical characteristics are guaranteed. Fully meet, not just 'doesn't melt'. If they used the correct versions it should be no difference really with the very similar rubber tube connected to the bowl you don't seem worried about.

There is no real guaranty of what they've used, of course, some things you just have to take on faith I guess.

meh... seems like a design flaw to me... they could have layered metal or gold in the bottom and still used heat insulating silicone... the fact that my blend is touching silicone as it slowly browns just seems counterproductive. many silicone bakeware sets are only rated to 350 and start melting after that. so while im sure i wont get my hands hot because of all the silicone, im not sure that i wont vaporize the silicone along with my blend. the funny taste is a red flag...

ill probably just sell the thing and try to recoop some of my loses.

FYI

THE BOWLPIECE IS MADE PRIMARILY OF A CHEAP METAL SCREEN AND SILICONE --

-NOT GOLD.

But it does "have layered metal or gold in the bottom" doesn't it? The goods sit on as SS screen, not silicone. Right?

Sure, and some cars can't to faster than seventy five. As I said, lots of such materials have working temperatures above vaping temperatures. Working temperatures, where all the characteristics have to hold, not just chemical stability. Such materials are quite safe by any objective taste. For instance:

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=23884&catid=799

We're talking Food Grade here boys and girls. At 500F.

Still, you get to decide what's safe and what's not. I do, however, question the ethics of selling something off you consider not safe to use. That's your call too, of course.

You didn't expect the bowl to be plated gold? You really expected it to be (solid) gold?????
