Sitting in the middle of a strange indoor fog. I thought I would stop in to show some love for the dog. (I love proof reading and finding accidental rhymes). Several months in, no issues, no complaints, and brought it to combustion once with a stock PS so confident can get as hot as need be.

Dog/Dogette, Happy New Years and good luck with the business:tup:, I doubt you all need it things seem to be popping off over there LOL. If you guys ever get back into that 'wood stem' business, let us know .

Hey UDs - we're in the middle of trying to move our website to another server (a much faster one we're hoping!)... so it may be up and down, up and down over the next 48 hours. You can always contact us if you need anything!

Looks like the intermittent outages include our email addresses - so send us a message through FC if you need.

Good luck with the move, hope everything goes smoothly. Been there myself so I know how time consuming and stressful it can be when it doesn't.

I was thinking about ordering one of the Skinny Ash Twigs. I love my LSV but it is killing my stash way to quickly. Gotta regulate it to nights and weekends only. ;)

I wanted to see about one thing though. Can I use it with a GonG stem like BDV uses with his HI in this video?

I've never been happy with a vape experience that included silicone tubing and I pretty much exclusively vape through water anyway so that would be the ideal setup for me.

Also, if the site is up is it ok to put the order in or should I wait until you guys say so on here?

They are currently selling Wood on glass stems, with a pipe made of glass inserted in an 18mm bit of hardwood. The glass tube then comes out of the wood and is inserted into a silicon 'bowl'. The 'bowl' or stem where the herb goes for the UD is made of silicon, that's the only way I know of attaching anything to it.

heres a link to the stem, although as of writing this, pictures are not working on the new server: http://www.underdogvapes.com/index.php/accessories/stems-and-supplies/wood-glass-wong/

I know at one point there was also a GonG solution -- I debated over ordering that before the WonG's came out. I think it's called the WPA and WPAGonG on the website. AFAIK the GonG just has a tapered glass end, otherwise they are the same piece. The stem in BDV's video and the pics on the website don't look like the same piece, I think Alan tapered off some glass tubing for the HI vid (but I have heard some stems are compatible with UD).

Even if you can't get that particular stem, there is always a way to rig an adapter. I forget the member, but a few pages back there was some photos of them changing a stock 14mm slide section into a water adapter but you'd probably still need limited silicone to make a nice seal.

Just got my VVPS delivered. Hopefully, I should be getting my VVPS cable from Dave in a day or two so I can try it out with my Pup. :brow:

Very happy to report back that I started to get my AVB roasted to VERY dark brown. Though I have had a VVPS, I soon realized that the stock power adapter was getting my dog as hot as 13.7 volts on the VVPS. So power to the dog was not the problem.

I realized that my problem was insufficient stem load/pack. While it may be obvious to many, you're not gonna get a good roast if you are not covering the stem screen with herb. Even more than that, the dog seems to hit best when there is a little bit of a "pack" so that hot air needs to travel through the herb (not taking the path of least resistance around the sides of it). It was silly of me to think that a pea-sized piece of herb would roast well if it wasn't covering the screen, from one side of the stem to the other.

I discovered that "micro stem loads" really roast better in a micro-stem! Since Dave is looking into new micro stem options, I started to think about how I could MacGruber my own.

The simple glass stem that Dave provides ended up being perfect! The internal diameter of the glass is the same internal diameter as Purple Days' stems. However, the outer diameter is larger enough to snugly fit in the silicone tubing to make a good seal with the dog. I cut a screen smaller in diameter and added 4 slits to make it easier to fold/push into the glass stem. Since the glass stem doesn't have the same grip/friction as the silicone stems, you can very easily adjust bowl size using the "pokey tools" that Dave provides.

How do I use it? Suck up a tiny amount of herb in the stem and don't pack it. Adjust the glass so that when the silicone outer tube is inserted on the heater core, the glass is very close to the top of the core. Use like any other UD stem. You'll quickly notice that there is a LOT more resistance. However, one can easily roast ridiculously small stem loads to dark brown in a couple small hits. I found that it is easier to draw patiently rather than fight against all that resistance.

Why is this better for me than packing up a regular stem and just hitting a couple times (and saving rest for later)? Using this "suck and save" method, I felt like my initial hits gave me very heady/sativa highs while the later hits gave me that higher temp high. This could all be in my head, honestly. However, the micro stem allows for a small amount of herb to be roasted to completion, giving the full spectrum of goodies all at once. Plus, there is nothing like the taste of a first hit. This method gives MANY first hits!

Pictures? Not super comfortable posting on an herb-related forum and even less comfortable hosting pictures, which could have personal data, etc. Ya'll understand.

Bottom line: The dog is awesome and I am a happy owner. Having a "micro stem" allows me to use the dog as I like to use it.

Just got my VVPS (the one with the flames) from Amazon and my cable from Dave. Could any of you Dogs out there tell me about how long it takes for the UD to go up from 12V to 13V "temperature" and how long it takes to cool back down? Thanks, Dogs. :dog:

EDIT: Dave just got back to me. Great service once again, Dave. Just tried my UD at 13V with the VVPS. WOW is all I can say

I saw that. Its a good idea but it still looks like the erb sits inside the silicone seal so its not really what I am looking for.

I was thinking about getting something like this...to my eyes it looks like it should work.

Edit: I'm looking around more I'm thinking this one may work best. Its made for pairing with silicone tubing so I'm guessing/hoping it would be pretty close to the same size as a typical glass stem.

Mike does good work, I got several little pieces from him this holiday. I'm willing to bet that would work perfectly, that looks just about like the same size glass as the simple stem. I'd just hate to be the one to tell you it definitely will without having tried it myself.

xer0, are you essentially trying to eliminate using the silicone with a UD completely? If so, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but i'm not sure that's possible

someone correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure the silicone is necessary to be able to vape with the UD.

however, the silicone is completely safe to use. the silicone that Dave uses for the UD stems are of a high heat resistant and food grade material. this silicone material does not off-gas at all at the temps that the UD runs at. you'll actually see that this type of food-grade silicone is being more popularly used in more log vape stems as new log vapes are being developed.

Well, Happy New Year UDs!

To kick off 2013, we're going to have that sticker design contest that was suggested a while back. We plan to start the contest one week from now and let it run for one week. I'll have more details for you, such as how to submit your design, etc, once it gets closer to the opening date.

For the winner, we'll have stickers printed with their design and credit given to them (their name or FC name if they want). In addition to getting to be an UD celebrity, there will be undisclosed prizes! :brow: For those of you who miss the standard UD stickers, we'll also be printing more of those at the same time.

So for now, go do whatever it is you do to get those creative juices flowing!

I use my UD's pretty frequently without the silicone tubing using Alan's 14mm all glass gong stems. There was also a glass nipple that some people were using. Pretty sure there was a video of it on here.

I will look and see it I can find it.

I stand corrected. i've definitely never seen that video or have heard of its use with the UD in the past. that's great. i would love to see the video if you find it.

That was my very first all glass roasting tube Gonzo. It was made from 13mm glass tubing and I hadn't figured out how to flame polish the inside of the bowl yet. There were a real pain in the ass to make since it took so long to bore the 10mm hole and broke if I went too fast. I am now using 14mm glass tubing which has a thicker wall and more robust. The ID of the glass tube starts at 9.6mm so I don't have as much to bore out. Here is a link to the latest design.

14mm All Glass Roasting Tubes

Unfortunately, the glass nipple will not work with the UD. The hole in the center tube must be large enough to accept a 5/16" SS roasting tip like with the CRZ, TT, and HI. I tried a glass nipple on my UD and it doesn't fit. I think OTA had mentioned this one other time as well.

Im sure someone has already thought of this but for those of you who havent here you go. I was replacing the screen on one of my thick tubes and I just couldnt get it to stay in place right so I made this thing:

20r78jk.jpg

If you happen to have the little cork that comes with the glass tubes and a wooden skewer at home you can do it for free. All you do is put cork in the silicon tube and then slice off whatever is protruding, skewer the cork like above then shave down the edges so you can easily slide the cork in and out of the tube. With this tool you should have 100% success rate installing new screens since the screen will not tilt.

I GOT MY UD'S BACK!!!!

holy crap what a great feeling. once you have one of these, you really miss it when you don't have it for a bit.

i recently sent both my UDs back to Dave because he had suggested that I do so for the health of my Pups. he was willing to take out the older version cores and replace them with his updated cores under the warranty that he provides. from this experience, i must say that the customer service that Dave provides is second to none. he had informed me on the day that he received my UDs and started to work on them that same day. Dave updated me on the process of my UDs every step of the way and i truly appreciated that. I was informed of when he opened them up, re-cored them, finished them up, and testing before shipping back out.

While my Pups were at the visit to the vet, I had asked Dave if he'd be willing to add some lines at the base of my Bamboo Twig and he very kindly obliged. I wanted them just for style reasons and upon receiving it, absolutely love it. He made the lines exactly as I wanted and was able to pull it off beautifully.

Enter Underdogette. I asked Dave if he could make me two different UD stems, one that was a long Bamboo stem that's about the same length as a normal glass stem and a 14mm Bamboo WonG. Although they had never made one yet, Underdogette took on the challenge with full force. Before I knew it, Dave informed me that Underdogette had pulled off both of the stems and that the long Bamboo stem had a tapered 14mm end. These WonGs are awesome! I seriously can't wait to show them off to my friends.

I'll definitely post up pictures of my newly styled Twig and WonGs soon. For now, I'm getting vaked :D:freak:
