I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Double boiler initial... then mild heat gun only until molten like through the vac purge cycles.

Great Scott!
I have a nice heat gun, but I don't trust myself to use it without overcooking. How do you "purge" iso btw? I've always just heated it for many hours, then left it out for a few more hours and assumed its purged. This isn't exactly comforting to me, which is probably why I never make it, despite having all the supplies.

I find ISo easier to purge if you don't have access to a vacuum. My bho never tasted fully purged next to nicely done ISo oil

So whats the best way to purge iso? I prefer working with ISO for a number of reasons currently. Nothing against BHO, but I simply prefer to work with iso. I'm more familiar and can get away with a lot more safely.

I just heat in a dish, in my oil slick pad. Then once most of the ISO is gone I take the oil slick pad out of the dish and maneuver it on a flat top around 150 degrees. I whip and such until it's done to my tase. Having an oil slick pad makes things 100 times easier

Can you post a pic of an oil slick pad?

The best way to purge Iso (IMO) is to spread it over the largest surface area possible and to wait. Heat will speed everything up, of course, but if the Iso/errl are spread thin enough nothing will get trapped. I recommend against whipping it, the theory being that whipping crystalizes waxes that are then inhaled into the lungs where they cannot be processed.

And when you think its done purging, give it a little longer. When it seems done, a few more hours of air exposure are not going to hurt anything, and often help purge that last little bit of moistness out.

That's bho on it

That's ISO oil. It's just reusable silicon to purge concentrates in. No scraping required

here is my plan:

- freeze the flowers, ISO, and EverClear all in their own jars
- pour the cold ISO into the frozen flower jar and shake for 20-25 secs
- strain the 1st wash through a gold tone coffee filter
- then strain 1st wash through a unbleached paper coffee filter into a pyrex dish
- pyrex dish then gets placed onto hot plate (not sure what temp to use here...?) with a fan to help evap. a fine mesh screen is clamped onto the top of the pyrex dish to cover it from any outside contaminants.
- after evap let the 1st wash purge for a bit on the hot plate (how long after ISO is gone?)
- that oil will then go into the freezer to freeze
- then pour the cold EC into the jar with frozen errl to dissolve
- that is then filtered through the gold tone and paper coffee filters and into the pyrex dish
- pyrex dish then gets placed onto hot plate again for 2nd evap and purge
- then a 2nd and 3rd wash done the same way if possible
- enjoy

whatcha think?

i will also being doing this with reclaim and ABV qwiso.

Where would I get one?

I use a $15 single burner from Walgreen's... It gets the job done. I can double boil my iso for hours and it seems like the water is the only thing that evaporates. I do double boil at a petty low temp so that I don't over purge my oil again. If I just put a fan on the dish of iso it evaps in about an hour or two but then I'm left with a white creamy fluid which I assume is the water. When I double boil with a fan on the dish it'll be completely evaporated in a little over an hour with none of the white fluid.

What do you use the slick pads for? I don't see any way to use them during my washes.

z9,
I too highly recommend the OilSlick pad but I've only used it with isopropyl extractions. Anyone have a particular container they could recommend for a large pad (the non-DUO one)? My current pyrex dish isn't working out too well in terms of heat absorption.

Hey Darb,

You should be able to grab a silicone baking mat from most department stores. I can't see why this would not work the same as a slick pad. Here is one on Amazon if you can't get to a department or kitchen specialty store:

Not sure where you can source the little ball if you want that as well, though.

anyone can give a small guide on how and when are this slick oil pads used?i ordered the 2 piece one ( since it looks a very easy way to handle the oil) i evaporate my qwiso's iso in really low heat an big surface...not boiling. and it just evaporates till there is no liquid in the pyrex and then i scap it off and it has the looks of some white yelowish dust wich then i heat and becomes the brown sticky oil that i use... any clue on how i could add the oil slick pad on this method?

Edward Hyde,

My friends call me "Menz"
I am not sure if this is good or bad but..... i filter my ISO through a paper coffee filter onto my pyrex pie plate (not sure why, but i seem to be able to scrape a round dish better than a square one) and place the plate with the ISO on a generic heating pad (you know the kind you use for a backache) and set to high (even high does not get that hot) and place it in my bathroom with the ceiling fan on. the next morning, all the ISO has evaporated. i then take the plate and put it in my office and let it sit for a few more hours. i then scrape it up and enjoy.

not sure if thats how i am supposed to do it... but it works

Well i use my oil slick pad to put the iso in and purge out. but you bought the 2 pack which are waaaaay to small to use in a dish. so the ones you bought (if they are the 2 small ones) will only be best used for further purging after scrapping or storage.
