Davinci by Karma

My third DaVinci showed up Monday and it is charging with no problems. It has shown that it's fully charged twice, which I'm happy about. I charged my second unit for over 24 hours once just to see if it would show it was fully charged and it didn't. The new unit's charging time seems to be fine. DaVinci's customer service was helpful through it all and now I have a properly working DV so I'm happy.

To GreenRoom: I let mine go from fully charged to dead(when the red light flashes) and it died about 3 minutes into the 5th session. I though it would have at the end of the 4th, like my last DaVinci did, but this one's battery lasted about 3-5 minutes longer

Now you all have me curious since it has been so long since I ran the DV down that far since I rotate. I am going to have to try to see how many 10 min runs I did get. I could be remembering wrong since my mind has been shot for years. I used to have almost a photographic memory and this not remembering or remembering incorrectly annoys the crap out of me.

I'll keep breaking it in, hopefully it gets better. I really don't want to send it back. I'll report back with my findings for comparison.

On another note, I wish the DV had a stealth mode switch to turn off all lighting. I find myself covering the display at night in the car because I figure if a cop sees any kind of light by your face he'll assume it's a phone.

greenroom again men ugh...men fix everything with duct tape and hammers...in this case black duct tape will do you well. You can get a small roll and leave it in the car or a small roll of electrical tape same thing to me lol.

The duct tape is holding my underpants together quite well, thank you.

And cheers to you for not typing 'duck' tape.

How right you are lwien. Greenroom I am a woman not dumb...I wonder what "duck" tape would look like...I bet you can find duct tape with ducks on it at this point. They have so many colors and designs now. I am watching tv and they just used it to make white wrapping paper have kewl designs. If you like crafts, I don't, it was really way nicer then bought print paper.

an expression I once encountered online: duct tape is like the force, it has a light and a dark side and it holds the universe together.
my wallet is entirely made from duct tape(well, except the metal button on the change-compartment), my bicyclelight is held up by duct tape too. and I still have to put some ducttape on the bicycleseat since there is a tear where gel comes out.

@wildchild: awesome christmasstory, I hope you don't mind that I posted it on facebook(first time in ages I posted something on there)

There's also the old joke a real man only needs two tools. If it moves and shouldn't: Duct tape. IF it doesn't move and should: WD-40.

In a fun side story, a few years back I read a DOE funded study on air duct sealing efficiency and lifespan. Duct tape failed big time. It ages very poorly. IIRC it was the worst of the systems tested.

Red Green was not pleased I bet.

BTW, if you're a fan of such stuff (and I am) check out Gorilla Tape sometime, far better than the 'hundred mile per hour tape' of my youth.

Oh I know how bad duct tape holds. When my hand controls where put in my car they put the AC vent tube back up with duct tape. I moved to the desert and boom you know it didn't hold and I was hot as hell in the car. I took it to mechanic here and they had to fix it.

I asked a handyman here how do they fix things since they can't use duct tape and hammers. His reply, we do it the right way, I laughed.

I forgot the WD-40 lol.

And emotional stability is never in yours... :brow:

That picture is freakin' awesome! So, so true.

I remember some movie with Jack Nicholson where someone asked him the difference between a man and a woman. He replied: "That's easy. You take a man, remove ration and reasoning, and you have a woman."
Made me chuckle.

@Dreamerr
I was pretty much raised by all women and have the utmost respect. I think that it is great that men and women can laugh at each other in a healthy manner.

Can't wait to show the picture to the ladies in the office. NOTE TO SELF: Wear protective gear on Thursday...

One more thing to share:

I live up in Arctic with the Inuit people (formerly known as Eskimos). When I was trying my DV for the first time, one of the Inuit women asked me why I was blowing into my walkie-talkie.

I told her I thought it was a breathalyzer...

It's sure stealth up here!

Gee I would think you didn't even have rules there...oh well...stealth is good.

Yea we all need to laugh...if you think I am not joking and are ready to get offended or mad pm me first and see my intentions. I will say 99% of the time I am messing around.

I just had a man call me, fighting with his family both are right but he needed the woman's point of view. I told him if I was emotionally involved in the situation I would say you are a dick and curse your ass out. I am looking at it from the outside and what you are doing is the correct thing even though you feel guilty.

Well, I have to say I'm less than impressed with the DaVinci. I bought mine Monday afternoon and it had broken by Wednesday evening [The + button is continuously 'on' ] :( I live in the UK so will have to take it back to the shop and hope for the best. If I'm lucky, they'll let me swap it for a Solo :)

@Karma - please consider beta testing and quality control in your future endeavours. You might get to keep *some* customers that way :)

First off all, welcome to the forum...although it seems like you're not looking for advice?

FWIW the problem you report is a first I think, nobody else has had a button fail? And for sure that's not a Beta Test issue (Beta Tests are for entirely different reasons related to design and usage). Nor is it a traditional QC issue (the quality of the build was just fine, it worked as designed when you got it), it enters into the realm of Statistical QC when there's enough data to work with, but that process has nothing to do with out of the box reliability directly.

If the goal is to raise a big stink and punish the maker here, you'll be needing 'sterner stuff' IMO. Advice like "You might get to keep *some* customers that way" looses impact when the majority of us appear to be quite happy with ours in the end?

Good luck with your next purchase, but IMO you missed a good one here....

yesterday I took my DV with me to the bar, the 2 friend there that tried it both thought it was awesome, and it was also easy for me(with my VG I would have to explain the technique for someone who never or long ago used it, with the DV I can just say to suck/inhale)
the battery also held up surprisingly long, I had taken the charger(and we sat besides an outlet), but I left the charger in my nicyclebag and didn't want to get up and go outside to get it.
during the last session before going home it had 0 bars battery with the heater on.
I didn't count how many times I pressed the powerbutton, but I think it must have been 6 or more sessions. I think I filled it 3 times, and there was already a fresh load in there before that.

with longer continiues sessions(immediatly pressing the powerbutton again if it has shut off after 10 minutes) I do notice it becomes hot, but with 1 or 2 sessions in a row it's not that bad yet, and when it gets hot I can just hold it a bit lower

Loving my Davinci more every day, So far only issue I've had is if the unit is cold getting off the upper chamber screen but a quick heat up solves it. Getting 4-5 10 minute sessions off a charge depending on temps I'm using. Liked the tip for opening up hole in oil can thanks alot. , Still working on new herb blend ideas once complied I will try to do new thread with temps sorry still testing
Merry Christmas FC family and friends:D

Oh NO! Got my DV two weeks ago and love it, but Xmas day it broke. I was using it plugged in, when the readout started flickering rapidly and temp went above preset. Shut it off and turned it on when cool and da*n: the blue light comes on but no readout and none of the buttons work. Called the vendor but they're closed till Jan 2! Looks like I'll be chokin on smoke into the new year. Anyone else had this problem with their Da Vinci?

Bummer. First time I've heard of that failure reported. You must not have reset the calendar inside so it wouldn't know when Christmas Day is to take a dive (a common extension of the sensor in old style photocopy machines that would sense you're in a hurry and wearing a white shirt to crash and spread toner all over.....).

Hopefully they'll set you right early on next week.

Not to rub salt into the wound, but blazing is a terrible fall back..... Over time I suggest you consider a VG, MFLB or (one of my personal faves) Vapman not only for a solid fall back but a fun vape for a change of pace use now and again?

Good luck on waiting it out, try not to breathe in all that nasty junk in smoke.....it can kill you....

Please report back what the issue was cause that is just strange.

@OF I don't recall the older units having this many issues cept for the supposed off gassing...is this a trend now? I certainly hope not and that people are just searching this site out for answers.
