How big a factor is quality of starting product?

I have about twenty five grams of some decent mids. I have been dying to try qwiso. It's it even worth the effort?

I find the quality of the product is extremely important, but I am always happy when I find a great deal on some mid grade as it gives me a chance to experiment on material that won't make me cry if it doesn't work out :)

mid/poor grade ALWAYS ends up bho'd or qwiso'd, otherwise I just end up disappointed everytime I use it.

So YES... it IS worth the effort in my opinion !

That was my thought, if I screw up my first time I won't be too crushed. I have been reading up for their most idiot proof method. It's it bad that my first glass piece has not even arrived yet, and I don't have a nail either? I cannot wait!

I have purchased that exact product, but I just use it for cleaning. I don't see why it wouldn't work fine for a wash.

Normally I use some midgrade stuff, also because of costs and so on. just recently had the chance to get my hands on some nice OG and decided to do a pull on it. Best decision ever, I mean, of you love the grass, you'll obey the oil LOL:cool:

Ok, patience was never a virtue of mine. Threw some 91% iso and about six to seven grams in the freezer for a few hours. First run shook for 20 seconds then dumped through stainless screen. Filtered that through coffee filters and it is sitting in Pyrex on top of my fridge. Ran again for 30 seconds of hard shaking then filtered that (much greener). It is on a plate on top of a nice warm cable box. I guess we will see how I did in the morning!

The first run in Pyrex was totally colorless this mornin, the second in the plate had a greenish tinge to it. Both scraping ended up black though? I probably got .6 total from both, is it worth running again or is it ready for the trash now?

arrgh, tried the pin and glass method with a tiny ball, but the ball melted and ran down the pin instead of lighting. My damn bubbler has not yet arrived, so I can't test this out yet!

so it melting was a sign that I did something wrong? :( Also, is it worth one more run with the same bud? I dried it out and it has been back in the freezer since.
Last thing (for now)... when I am draining through the filter and it is almost done, is it ok to squeeze the last of it out into the jar? TIA all it is greatly appreciated

Ok still not the most patient guy ever... just attempted to hot knife a ball a bit smaller than a BB via a water bottle. I had issues getting it onto one of the knives when they were both hot, it would got all sticky and not come off my finger. So I cooled one down and stuck the little ball on it while heating the other one. I don't think I got it all, there is some left on the cool knife. It was harsh as hell, but that one hit got me WELL medicated. I guess I need to look for a vapor dome now.... wow...

Just editing to say I am STONED

You could just make sure it is all closed in before squeezing and don't do it hard, you could rip the filter. An easier and more efficient manner (IMO) would be to run a little clean Iso through it to move that last little bit through and catch anything good stuck in the filter.

do you grind the herb or u use it as buds to exctract?does it change something if its grounder or bud?

Hello dabbers, I was always nervous and putting off my first bho run, but now that I met a friend about a month ago who has a vac purge setup (nobody I knew had ever even taken a dab including myself but I had done my research) and he said I can come bring bud and make bho with him sometime! :D
Once I get a bit of extra money for a nice oz on top of my stash that's what's happening!(hate having to buy bud, at least I know where the best around here).

In addition to the question posted above, I would like to know, if I used high grade bud for a bho run and dumped a fair amount of high grade kief on it, would that be kinda a waste of kief, make the most killer oil ever, or increase the yeild?

I believe with using the two HIGH grade materials you'd result in a HIGH grade oil (killer) AND increase your yield.

I find that in QWISO I prefer to finger break up material for surface area rather than grind unless your very quick with the wash or chance stripping the unwanted's of the plant. with BHO I will will give material a light grind.

Doing this "I" find the results increased over just using whole nugs.

I broke up into largish chunks was thinking of breaking them up a little smaller and going through one more wash since my sample from wash two was impressively strong(to me at least). Any thoughts or suggestions?

It's more of a 'to each their own' I would think.... for myself with qwiso I just hate stripping off chlorophyll and unnecessary plant matter and prefer non greenish errl, but for another that may not be as important and those who are more centered around return qty than quality.

Do what does YOUR body & mind GOOD ;)

Hey mattend, you can grind it wiry a hand grinder if you do everything very cold and fast, the quality wont differ if it is fast/cold enough because of the nature of Iso as a solvent. I mean -10°f exposed for <10 seconds and it will have no difference if it is broken up or not except to maybe increase yeild. But it must be a hand grinder, coffee grinder is too powerful.

And I agree with smokum, its all about what works for you. You could experiment some, just remember once the Iso is gone your only ingredient is weed, so its not a waste when made, it'll always be stronger than the starting material. If initial does come out undabable by your own opinion, you could always cook it into a brownie.

There is some debate on this topic and definitely different opinions. I would say that most of the best oil makers I know pack whole buds or popcorn size nugs and they pack them very tightly.

When I do a run that is 8g or more, I'll generally pack whole bud or popcorn size nugs, but I frequently use a really tiny tube for 3-4 gram runs, and in those cases I will grind just because the tube is so small.

Grinding can affect the quality of the oil, as you are breaking up the plant material making it easier for the butane to carry other less desireable material out of the tube. When I spray ground material I try to spray for as short a time as possible.

I've never added kief myself, but from what I've read and seen, it's can work just fine as long as you mix the kief in with the bud. Don't let the kief clump up or it's hell to get the butane through it (Lot's of people experience blow-outs trying to run kief). The keif will increase yield, and it will also change the look of your end product. Oil made from keif tends to be darker.
