Connecticut Elementary School Shooting. Dead count is now up to 20. This dwarfs Columbine. These are just young children for Christs sake.

Soooooo fucked up.

This WILL raise the gun control debate to a whole new level.

Why shoot kids or students who can't fight back. You never hear anybody going into a biker bar or ghetto.WTF is the point in these shootings? Trust me we all pay for what we do on this earth. If the killer thought he had it bad now....Just wait till the lights go out :uhoh:

Thinking about this is startin' to get me a bit teary eyed.

27 reported dead now (as per CNN), 18 of which where children. The school is K thru 4. These were just babies.

Kids shouldn't have to deal with this shit. The most they should be worrying about, is what they are getting for Christmas for fucks sake. This is just terrible. Poor innocent babies...

18 kids and 8 adults killed. Shooter was 20 yrs. old and it was reported that one of his parents was found killed, apparently before the school shooting. This is even more nuts than other school shootings, since the shooter was 20 and killing little kids. He was physically old enough to be the father of some of those kids. Doesn't seem to be any logic, as far as connecting the dots, unless he was just looking for the highest body count with the least initial resistence.

Now I'm hearing the shooter was 24 and his mother was a teacher at the school. The father was the one killed at home.

Death toll is fluctuating with these early reports.

These are such young children just going to school, all excited about Christmas, and then..........

Just breaks my heart.........

Now they're saying the report of the father being killed at home is incorrect, and that the shooter's mother was killed at the school.

I also heard the shooter killed his own mother, who was a teacher at the school.

You have to think that his issue was with his family. Makes me wish his mother had worked at a police station instead of a school.

A teacher said a child said to her, "I don't want to die, I want to have Christmas".

Wonder if there is a way we can raise money and or goods as a community? Anyone good at that sort of thing?

Just saw Obama address this about 2 min. ago. I've never seen a President break out in tears in the middle of a speech. He said that he was addressing the nation, not so much as a President, but as a father. THAT was plainly obvious.

Gun free zones are kill zones. Malls, schools and theaters are easy targets. I have taught my kids to know what is going on around them at all times. They have a good sense when things aren't right.

These kids were in their classrooms. No amount of training/education on safety would have mattered here.

Thankfully this thread hasn't devolved into a discussion on gun control. Let's keep it that way. If I see any such posts they'll be deleted and/or the thread will be closed down. This is a huge tragedy, not a talking point for or against guns.

Not just talking points regarding guns, but also talking points about our mental health care system.

We won't ever be able to stop ALL of this crap, but we sure as hell can do things to help lessen the frequency and lessen the amount of carnage.

This really should go down as a national day of remembrance because this wasn't a tragedy by an act of God, but by an act of man, and behind all of our outrage and sadness over this, I know at least for me, there is also a bit of guilt because I KNOW that we could have done more to at least TRY to prevent shit like this from happening.

It's a crying shame that it would take the deaths of 20 little eight year old kids to get us off our ass.

Sorry if these comments shouldn't be in this thread, but what happened here SHOULD spark debate and conversation and if it belongs in another thread, so be it.

I'm deeply saddened by all of this, and my thoughts and prayers go to the
parents of the victims. At Christmas this has to be a real test of faith and
forgiveness.

For the first time (in a long time) tears were a flowing from me. And well for the first time (first time) it was for total strangers whom I have never met.

If you read some of the stories that are coming out about the heroism of some who went to great lengths to protect their children, it doesnt take away that pain, but it does make it a bit easier to digest.
One that stood out was this one lady who hid her children in the closets and cabinets when she heard the shots. The gunman came to her classroom and she told them they were in the gym. He shot and killed her and then moved on. How many lives did she save in that quick instance? That act of selflessness should be the headlines - not the act of selfishness of this PoS who did this crap.

Yeah, me too. I had the same reaction to this as I had to 911, possibly even a bit stronger.
