Discontinued The Persei Vaporizer for herbs and concentrates.

The reason mine melted is because the tank lid was touching the mouthpiece. And I hold the button no longer than 1 minute...

How hard are you sucking? I think this is the issue here.

I just got the herc/perseii and tried loading up some reclaimed vapor oil, which was way too thin, and just leaked all over. One thing I noticed, was if you sucked hard enough/fast enough, you can hear the oil tank sliding up and hitting the mouthpiece.

So it sounds like the oil tank gets preheated, then when you suck (too) hard you pull the hot oil container off the heater, and up against the metal mouthpiece screen. Its pretty thin, so the heat transfers directly to the delrin mouthpiece quickly melting it while you are sucking.

Hmmm I think my issue lies on the tank.... only one of my tanks slide freely but after the first boil to sanitize the parts neither one of my tanks slide freely. I was thinking this was the problem because the tank lid is touching the mouth piece...

Hey G
So can anybody give us an answer one way or the other, is this thing safe to use? Will the Delrin off gas before melting? Is this off gassing toxic? IMO it can't be good for you. There has to be somebody who knows, G what's the deal?
I love your products but I have enough health problems without adding in other factors like this.

Thanks
Kevin

I think you should be ok, there's only a couple of us that ran into the melting issue so far.

I was told to stop using mine and will not touch my second one or do much of anything with either of them until I hear back from G.

Might be best to just wait to hear back from G though about the situation.

I can't give you an answer about safety, but I can give you some facts straight from Dupont website(the maker of Delrin).
Maximum servicing temperature(short term)-300 Fahrenheit
Maximum servicing temperature(long term)-185 Fahrenheit
Melting point-347 Fahrenheit

It also says that near it's melting point, Delrin gives off toxic amounts of formaldehyde.
I can't speak for anyone else, but myself, those facts tell me all I need to know to make my decision.

I agree with you Krazzykid. Only safe materials should be next to a heating element that a target consumer medical user will inhale through. Strange it never bothered most people, as they didn't mind the fiberglass and plastic in the airpath of the omicron carts.

But what temp does herc hit, in a high stress situation. Its odd how this happens now, but G's long hits didnt replicate results prior to or after this incident.

KC - there isnt fiberglass or plastic in the direct airpath on the carts, only metal (MAY BE WRONG, but after dissecting a couple, dont believe it is in direct contact?). The only plastic/fiberglass/silicone is around the wires/base (aka the "air tube/center tubing") or between the bushings and the plastic base of the center "air" tube.

Can someone answer this... What the hell is the difference in full melt and super melt? What do people prefer for what use?
Off topic but regardless,
See it on harborside and elemental. Just scanning their goods. no idea what to ever get. Not that it matters, as not being located there! but whatd everyone recommend for anxiety/depression/ashtma-type lung issue (dyspnea)/lung issues/Stress based muscle pain back. Just a mild wind-down. dont need to be in a "Self induced coma" or "stoned beyond belief", cause that doesnt sound pleasant or helpful medically. Best experience was with sativas back in the days (ak-47), worst experience was with ummmm alot. Having that feeling of "having too much" and the heart pounding and getting anxious and worried about it and then the labored breathing issues and anxiety.

I'm not sure so don't quote me, but I believe the term full melt is used for hash/bubble that fully melts, and super melt is usually a brighter yellow, very tasty form of errl.

EDIT - Lighthound has the AW IMR 18350's back in stock for anyone who was waiting :)

If it's melted, obviously more than 347F. Which also means more than 300F. IMO cause for concern.

Actually the fiberglass wicks inside the heater coils and the plastic seals that can melt and cause leaks are both in the air path, right? This is, I believe, the driving force to get the fiberglass wicks out if the 1701 cart? The risk is probably small, but IMO it's a real concern.

Can someone answer this... What the hell is the difference in full melt and super melt? What do people prefer for what use?

Full melts have a lot of plant material that will clog up the wicks feeding the oil and foul out the heater. Supermelts, clear oils, waxes, shatters and other stuff that evaporates cleanly off heated foil belong in Omicron, the rest belong in a pipe or on a nail or swing where their contamination doesn't matter. Hercules needs the 'supermelts or better' as well.

Thanks on both counts. Sure that full melt has plant material? And never knew it was a fiberglass wick. Surely that must be removed.

"Full Melt is a more modern approach to hash making and is produced using solvents like butane, CO2, ether and oxygen. Its name derives from its ability to melt completely. Due to the lack of plant material, Full Melt doesn't burn like other types of hash. Instead, it melts completely before it begins to burn from a flame.

Super Melt is an ultra-refined Full Melt that appears amber, yellow or mustard in color. Super Melt is the most concentrated type of cannabis medicine currently available and often tests in the 70% to 85% THC range."

Should have searched online before asking.

You're welcome. Yep, I'm sure. What else would you expect it to be? I wouldn't automatically believe everything you read on Al Gore's Internet.....

Full Melts, as I understand, are NOT solvent refined (or they wouldn't have the contamination and would evaporate freely) but are the product of 'the ideal mesh size' bag in a well done bubble hash run. This would be the mature, undamaged trichomes which burst under heat releasing the oil (and THC) inside when heated. The 'bodies' of the trichomes don't evaporate.

Solvents wash the oil free and leave the trash in the filter paper...no or little fouling.

A personal favorite is Sour Diesel. I also find CO2 extractions quite nice, usually. In general, the lighter in color and thicker the extract the better. The foil test is a good indicator, but most dispensaries around here frown on your doing it......

Dont know any dispensaries out there. Just dreaming and educating the mind. No experience is a bad experience. Just checking out harborside and elemental, dont know any others.

Now, Wax vs Taffy vs Budder vs Supermelt vs crumble vs honeycomb. Where the hell did all these types come from?!? Its like naming off different types of dogs... but in the end isnt it still a dog?

See it on harborside and elemental.

I use to go to both harborsides and elemental too but their cheapest ounces are like $200 and the good stuff is over $400/ounce...
And their grams of supermelt can be $50 or more :o

I've been to Revolution a few times now because I need to save $$ for the holidays and it's a dream come true. If you're in the bay area I totally recommend it, their flower is $125-240/ounce and their wax is a flat $35 and pretty good but they have all different qualities for the same price. They have a great selection but I swear there's never any line when I show up so keep the secret k :D

Just got my Herc to deliver. Put a dab in there, heated it up a bit. Ran it for 30 seconds then starting pulling. Delicious monster cloud. Then another..and then another. Then some more good hits while it cooled down. I looked in and it looked empty. But from reading here, I knew better, ran it 30sec, hit it hard and BOOM another monster cloud. Then another... oh yea, then another! Like Wow.. I dont think Im gunna return this.

My phlegm taste soo good

Oil, Glass & I'm a bit of an ass
so, for those who are keeping statistical track of failures and such....my bender is now paired to a dead hammer. My luck is awesome. 2 Hercs and one Hammer this month. ticket submitted to D9V. I am hoping for a quick and painless exchange since they are 9 miles from my house and I've already tested several tops and batteries to yield the same result.

I have no clue where my Hakko is and I have some flowers I want to use...well I guess if I am going to be unhealthy i might as well roll a blunt...but only after this dab. smh i hate technology sometimes

Ok guys sorry but i keep dropping off the face of the planet then some how finding myself back.

Ok so here is whats up.

slide if you used the outside shell how come in your picture the top ring is on the hercules with the mouthpiece without the heat shield, as the top ring fastens onto the heat shield, Just trying to figure out because from the picture the heat shield seems not to be used and the top ring is pushed onto the stainless steel tank to hold the mouth piece in place.

Joe yes heat transfer does happen, but with the constant cold air is introduced it cools it down. Now our testing did include real patients at Sparc that had the Hercules on for about 9 minutes straight going strong constant inhales and yet not one bit melted, and this was done on a pass through prototype system, That is what has us scratching our heads as we are not able to duplicate it with normal use and even hard core use.

Now anything melting is not a good thing to inhale, this is why we are upgrading to teflon.

Anyone who has any issues, we have refunds available and will honor our products.

We are also working on upgrading the heater and will fully replace defective heaters without any questions.

Jam and Vito thank you for the feedback. Can i ask if you guys a ohm meter? let me know what ohms you guys are running. Thanks.

I had to take the outside shell off to be able to take the pics to show you the melting. I don't see how it could've been possible to show you what I was talking about with the heat shield still on...

That being said, the two top pics were from a post a few pages back detailing the problem I have been having with the mouth piece getting stuck to the top ring and pulling the whole metal cart out with the top ring and mouth piece still attached every time I want to reload, or in this case, take pics for you. Also, I think the melting part could have possibly bonded to the stainless a bit when it melted.

EDIT - Took another pic that should help explain why if I didn't do a good enough job.

from what i can see from your pic, slide nothing is melted. i think you may have broken the heat shield but not worse. i'll bet you that if you hold the part UNDER the groove and turn the mouthpiece, it will come off and you'll see what i'm talking about.
