I only clean my wand a couple times a year and by brushing my screen (great tip Vito  ) after a session with my LB brush I can keep a free flowing screen for usually my whole time between cleanings unless I am running lots of hash.

That is enough to keep you screen clean, the LB brush? My screen becomes unsatisfactorily clogged after only 2 sessions of flowers, just one with wand hash. I could take the screen out and nothing short of a blow torch or solvent that will get my screen clean. Is this not normal?

Certainly not MY normal with flowers. I can usually just pick my wand clean (with the SSV pick). I finish with a brush (more around the wand than the screen) and perhaps a yucky oral suck of ABV dust from the wand end. I do however take my green to well done brown at which point it all seems more dried up and husky then anything sticky, resiny. My screen is always easily cleaned, even hash presents little difficulties. Perhaps your green is quite moist and resiny? Perhaps my over-sized wand is implicated.

Others ...

My screens get clogged fairly quickly, within a few weeks use usually. This has been normal for me through nearly two years with my ssv. I almost always torch my screen after, comes clean every time

Hey guys, very proud to say I will be a new member of the SSV family soon enough ..

But I'm starting to get a little worried about my order :\

I placed my order on November 25th via Silver Surfer's official website and haven't had any news since then ! :( I wrote to Chris this past Sunday for an update and still haven't received any answer ...

After much reading before making my final decision, I read that it takes 6 business days to treat an order so I already knew that. I chose to buy the En Passant edition, is it possible that it takes longer for this SSV since they have to make every part from scratch?

Anyway, I'd just like to know how long it took them to ship your SSVs when you placed your orders. I hope I'm not the only one who is in this situation.

I have people rinse their screens with 91% Iso....
I do not even remove mine.. I just fill wand with Iso (screen in place) and shake.
My screen looks new.
Screen... singular. I am on my original screen for over 2 years now!

What do you do about the little bits that get wedged between the screen and the glass? I've tried an ISO rinse with screen in place and there is still ABV left.

When I say clogged I don't mean it's beyond able to hit, I'm referring to holding the screen up to the light and only the center of the circle is clean. But this is enough for me to notice a difference in draw speed.

Weird, I had this same issue with my EQ. The elbow screen would clog up pretty quickly and I had to keep 5 soaked in ISO for a rotation.

I would guess the Passant edition would take longer.

Also be aware that 7th Floor is really busy right now due to the holidays. I have an order for a Heater Cover that has taken since the 21st to replace. Not that I care it takes that long, I was the same as you and worried they had lost my order or something.

I'm sure Chris will get to your email eventually, it took him several weeks to reply to mine.

Like chimpy I take my abv to brown. Empty it, brush it, suck the remnants out from both sides of the whip and I am good to go. As long as I am using dab sized pieces of wand hash to top bowls it doesn't affect my screen much at all. I can normally run over an ounce through my wand before needing to torch my screen. I haven't cleaned it in a cpl months and I can still see through it just fine. Maybe you need to cure your botanical of choice :) a bit more lol

Edit never mind I see that you were talking about the sides of the wand. I don't worry about it it just makes the kiefy wand hash more potent when I take it out finally. As long as I can see through the middle and my airflow is acceptable I am good to go :ko:

I did not say an Iso rinse. Not a simple rinse... agitation is required.
I fill wand with Iso and shake hard... letting the Iso only move in one direction.
If done well, the thum never leaves the top (or the hose end), and you let bleed through only what you shake through each time...
I follow this with hot water and soap (rinsed after very well)
see the technique here--->
Sorry for those who have seen this before... I could not find my old post with this video~

I'm sure it will come and you will be very happy. The SSV has changed my life for the better and its the best "smoking"device i have ever used.I ordered some things from the SSV website on black friday and just got it yesterday....It seems only 1 guy "Chris" does everything over there i wonder if he's hiring?

I did not say an Iso rinse.

From your video "Oh yes dude... after every Iso rinse and collection..dish soap. Once a day in the tube you see right there for 2+years" :p

I used to clean my screens like that, take them out and rinse with ISO in my hand, poor down the drain. But you would be surprised how much vapor resin is stuck on that screen. Now I just pop the dirty one out, throw in a jar of ISO, grab a new screen from the completely dry from after ISO soak pile, and off we go. My ISO is yellow after just two screens. Also been trying to keep ISO away from my skin, I'm sure I've absorbed enough throughout my life, hah.

Well got my new HC today, so off to experiment, :science: . I can't believe the difference between HC, one reason why there is less consistency between different SSVs.

Tweak did you get a different HC+wand setup (gg) or just a backup of your standard?

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
I chuck my wand in a jar too and shake it hard then leave it overnight. I don't rinse with soap. I just let it dry a long time. I don't see any harm but I could be wrong. I know we always put iso on thermometers right into our mouth so I didn't see an issue.

Just a backup standard HC. I already own all three wands(SGG,GG, and standard), and have two of the standard wands.

This makes my third standard HC. My favorite, the SGG HC, broke about a month ago, leaving me with just the GG and the standard, so out of fear of breaking a standard I ordered a back-up, lol. The first one they sent me had a huge intake hole, making me turn the SSV to the max just start getting vapor. This new one looks much like my other except its taller and has a longer head, yay.

I see. I only have one HC and one whip (and one vape). If anything breaks, then it's t-break time (and order some glass time). straight edge.

So, let me ask why was the SGG HC your fave? I would think SGG would help with vape-bonging (something I'm **notcough** interested in **notcough** of late). Also, I get how you're looking forward to your new standard HC. These little discrepancies in glass can make a big difference in performance.

I've been thinking of trying something new, specifically the SGG. Regardless, I would request a "normal" or even small bore wand (i.e. I don't want my stock SSV screens being too small anymore) and perhaps a somewhat short HC (specifying a height range). I know they don't blow to a spec, but they can choose amongst their stock a "skinny" and a "shortie". Or if it was a deal (used/blemished/decent sale) I would just pick-up whatever was cheap (gg, sgg, hh) just to play with something new.

I am still curious about the SGG and clip helping with water setups. Do neither the sgg or gg not make it a little bit easier ... better ...?

p.s. Tweak I'm getting used to my elevated SSV+bub setup. The short hose makes the downstem work (my left hand work) more comfortable. In fact, it helps with the general handling of the whip. (Also enjoying cork-ing the top of my wand when idle). The tension of the hose is such that neither of my hands are actually needed to hold the wand in place, but nonetheless they are there guiding and helping manage this flexion of the hose. This tension pushes the wand into the HC and my tubing down into the downstem. Certainly, the elevated SSV is a big help achieving the extra height and angle needed for my non-WPA hose into downstem of my bub. I can't tell if it's helping lessen the "priming" time as I've only just begun playing with water and any changes are tainted by user skill changes - the bub just clouds up and lo so do I.:whoa: Also thanks Tweak for your description| \ my HC is holding tight tonight.

I do reckon though I'll go back to a normal-level setup, and then I'll know the benefits of the extra short hose. It's too fugly without being setup properly (a la Tweak), which I can't be bothered doing. So, back on the table, longer (colored, SSV) hose, and a somewhat expensive, downward-angled WPA from Mike (and other bits). I'll probably do another final post along this topic - this help me spend my money topic. probably on the gbd thread. The WPA will help, as will keeping the whip length as short as possible, as will Mike's downstem. Some day I may find something purty to prop up my surfer a few inches and cut some whip down.

  • OK so i wanted to say thank you for informing me of the mini wands on this forum. Its fun how using the SSV for 6 months now it still feels new to me.I ordered a custom SSV wand and the Mini wand same time @ sites of course.Mini arrived in 3 days Custom off the shelf 2 weeks.I just wish i ordered the mini sooner because i can see the custom is just going to collect dust. I have had problems with some herb not vaping at all or very little in my reg standard wand.Just by switching to the mini now all herbs ive tried so far no matter how fluffy or dry vape with ease using even less. Will 7th floor make me a custom mini wand so i dont have to buy the ones that feel so cheap? i cant believe what !0%-15% less surface area makes! I must also wonder if the standard is the only wands that can change sizes to help vape problem strains more effectively.

I am pretty sure hes referring to the vapor bros mini wand its the only mini afaik people use with the ssv. I have been meaning to move my screen up and make the standard a mini wand kinda using a piece of the ssv hose in place below the screen. Almost did it last nite and said f it ill do it in a week or so when i reclaim

    • Yes the mini vaporbrothers wand sorry i don't know how to post links. Also i think the thickness of glass might help heat fluffy herbs more to vape easier it gets hot really fast.I also think these are a must to have on hand when traveling. This has happened maybe 2-3 out 50 times where i could not vape the herbs at any temp.So just say your going to a friends house and everyones exited the Vape man is here. Then you come to find out the herbs they provide dont seem to work well. Then they would say "what is this crap break out the bong".Not if you have the mini wand !your back in the clouds. I Just ordered 2 more an hour ago plan on using one while one soaks in iso and one as spare because changing the screens looks like a biotchh.

"Vapor Brothers Standard Mini-Thin Vaporizer Whip®

A great alternative to the Vaporbrothers Regular Whip at a fraction of the price. This is a Vaporbrothers "mini-whip" made exclusively for the Vapor Brothers vaporizer. It is slightly smaller than the whip that comes with the vape for times when you just want to vaporize a small amount. The diameter of the Mini-Whip is 10mm compared to the Regular Whip which is 11mm."

Somewhere on this thread there is a user who cut some of the glass off the end so he could shove the tube inside like the SSV whips. I've never used one of these mini's, but I've read they are much thinner glass and much easier to break the the standard SSV wand. Always thought about trying what Puffers mentions and moving the screen up.

Wow you guys are on the ball.I figured these would save herbs i just didn't think they would be so useful with problem dry herb. These are much more than a gimmick..Yes they are flimsy i suggest buying a few at a time.! dont tap the ABV out but blow or use the pick.I am going to ask 7th floor if i can request a custom wand for the custom wand price but made to use 6.25 mm screens. This way i would feel better taking this on the go Oh and the wand slides right into the SSV tube so you dont even need the set.Just buy the wands as their tube is much stiffer

You always want to avoid blowing into the whip it contaminates your wand hash/oils and may cause sanitary issues as well. I use the pick and clear everything i for can out then i draw from the bowl side to clean any stray particles as long as you dont inhale quickly sticking abv dust to the back of your throat lol its not bothersome imo :2c:

Really...learn something new everyday. I do this with all my vapes oh well. I also use the INH straw or a whip to inhale what is left. Would that be ok as long as the whip I use won't be used to vape. Of course the one I use now I do use but can dedicate it to getting crap out of my screens and places I can't reach.
