Do you guys prefer the turbo or the regular PVHES stems? I plan on getting a bent and an 18mm, most likely full size for both.

Have not tied the regular, but I love the Turbo. In the battle against a restrictive draw, why not go for broke? Defiantly changes the experience and worth every penny. I like the straight ones personally.

I was thinking it would be preferable to not be REQUIRED to use a screen. I intend to use a screen under ideal conditions no matter which stem I get, but I'd rather my vape not be useless in the event I don't have any screens.

Understood. However, they are cheap, widely available, cleanable and last a long time. Grab a couple dozen and you will never be without. Regardless, stock stems do not "require" a screen. The unit ships with 2 of them. Given that, even without screens the vape will not be "useless". Just use stock stems with no screen and eat your veggies :p. At the end of the day, it is user preference. They make them both ways for a reason.

You are not REQUIRED to use a screen at all. They dont come with screens either. The stems have 2 or 4 holes but some flowers can sneak by when drawing from the stem. Its strictly preferrnce so no worries if u dont have screens.

Like I said, I use screens for many things already. I'm talking about a situation where you're not sitting at home with your box full of screens. I've also read (in this thread) that they plan on discontinuing the turbo line due to lack of performance.

I'm talking about the Turbo stem where a screen is required.

Just don't forget that the flying bits may irritate your lungs. That is why it is better to use screens, especially if you grind the material.

So, it is not just user preference, although that plays a big part in it.

I plan on using a screen in both stems, I'm just asking if the rest of the "Turboness" is worth not being able to use the stem sans screen.

sorry not to derail this thread but Vitolo may know the answer (didn't you get one as a test?).... what ever happened to the "Microdab" it was supposed to be sold on Amazon and i thought it would be out by now
The Micro-Dab is on Amazon for sale, as is the book the fellow wrote.
It may have lost a tiny bit of momentum.
Dr. Ray is still writing songs about this, and is still making videos on Youtube!
I personally refrained from making a formal review of this item, as it is not an invention... but rather a technique.. and the parts used are within access to all.

This maybe redundant?

Normally I set my SOLO to "4" and vape.
However i find that at level "5" I get more rips per bowl. (thicker clouds as well)
Some say they wish the SOLO had a larger bowl?
Maybe my tolerance is low?
Two bowls of Top Shelve Indica one hour apart puts me into slummer land.
I read on this tread somewhere where someone preheated the glass stem before loading.
It works well. I do the same every time now.

With the bumper crop this fall in California the Flowers are pretty fresh.
This could be why I'm finding the "5" setting more efficient?
Or am I doing something wrong?

Hey everyone, sorry if this a bit direct but this thread is huge and I'm a bit intimidated to go through it all. My question is, where can I find these turbo stems I see you talking about, and where can I get a ground joint whip to hook up to my bubbler? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If it works for you, keep on doing it! I find that if I run my hash at a 7, it hits much better than if I putz around with 4-6.

Google PlanetVape or PVHES. I'd get you a link but I'm at school and it's probably blocked for me here.

If you get the solo stealth adapter, you can attach a whip, but it's usually out of stock.

Yes. Sorry, I didn't mean to say its not possible to use whip - you could probably attach one with a wide enough ID to a stock stem. I meant whips would not be the ideal way to connect the Solo to a water pipe.

I've been waiting very patiently for the Stealth Adapter to come back with PHVE mods.

Thanks, and I just meant stem by whip, wasn't sure the accepted terminology. Again thank you for the quick response.

Just one more question. Did they lower the temp on newer solos? I was on their site and it said the temp of 2 was 185°c, and I have an old m103 that I thought had 2 at 200°c. They both go up interval of five, just not sure if it was changed or if I was mistaken of the temps from my unit.

The M105 production run also saw the addition of a loose PTFE ring for better retention of the stem, as well as a firmware update which had the unintended effect of lowering the temperature levels by about 10 degrees centigrade. M106 and later units restored the original temperature scale.

Edit: not sure this will scale properl, being copied on my phone...

Table of temperatures versus level selected
Level Spec Temp Measured Temp M104 Measured Temp M105
1 122°F ( 50°C) 40°C 40°C
2 365°F (185°C) 170°C 150°C
3 374°F (190°C) 183°C 163°C
4 383°F (195°C) 195°C 175°C
5 392°F (200°C) 205°C 185°C
6 401°F (205°C) 220°C 200°C
7 410°F (210°C) 235°C 220°C

Temperature will vary with most consumer vaporizers anyways, though I belie e the Solo is quite accurate.

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
I don't believe the stated settings are 'exact' on any 'affordable' device and more of a guideline since a sensor of scientific accuracy ($$$) also have a variance of +/- factors.

I thought to go out and grab a decent heat sensor detector/reader... but then again, the same +/- occurs sadly.

So, as unfortunate as it is.... I think personal results at different settings are only going to be the true tell all for individuals, and more so with the devices 'we' can obtain.

The stock Solo stems connect easily with tubing from a SSV or DBV. I use the stock stems at home in my HerbalAire, connect whip tubing to stem other end to a 7thfloor GonG WPA in my piece and its a good flowing tabletop whip vape. As far as Solo directly to water pipe, I've found the direct stock stem into a 14mm joint fits snugly enough. Also have found a use for my old Grav Labs hand pipe(has a fixed shower head perc). The stock stem fits directly over the small hole in the bowl, just put thumb on carb hole and rip away. Kind of feels like your just holding a Bic lighter(the Solo) over a bowl with no flower in it. Looks a little silly, but works and diffuses quite well!!

Which is the better pvhes for a 18mm? Shorty or turbo or shorty turbo? Solo should get here today so excited. Also what can I do when the stems get dirty? I have a lot of flower ready to test thing and enjoy it for some time so wht can I do when the times come I hear about harvesting the stem hash does anyone do this after every cleaning??

Shorty- Shorter bowl. Personal preference, I prefer the full size because you need the extra room to pack hash with cotton.
Turbo- I've heard reports that the turbo doesn't actually make a difference in terms of airflow, and that they plan on discontinuing the turbo series. The turbo also requires you use a screen, whereas with the standard bowl you can add a screen or use it without.
Shorty+Turbo is just the pros and cons of the two options combined.

I've heard simmering your stem in milk makes for a tasty drink, but I've never done it myself. You could try doing the standard ISO soak+scrape, but I usually just wait until my vapeware is "well-used" and then let it run hot until it drips out into a collection tray.

IME its best to start with the regular sized stems. I know some people like the shorty, bit you can easily achieve a shorter bowl by using domed screens. Buy a shorty and you can't ever make the bowl bigger

Soak stems in ISO and store for a future QWISO batch.

Soak stems in scalded milk and make hot chocolate.
