I was a little nervous about sending it too but I cleaned it real good they got it and they replaced it. The warangal was a major reason I went for the Pax. Would be useless if I couldn't mail it.

This vape is overrated. It looks great, and I want to love it, but it falls short. Out of the box It was great, but 6 weeks or so later, my opinion is entirely different.

This thing is a mess. It requires a ridiculous amount of cleaning. and it seems easy to break. My system already is having problems recognizing igniting. i will have it in position to vape, and the light will flicker between purple and orange. It eventually works, but it takes a good 20 seconds or so of messing with it before i get the purple light.

I hope this thing lasts. warranty or not, majority of people wont send this thing through the mail. Myself included

Clean your Pax, stop being lazy! The only problem is the MP sensor, just blow on your mouthpiece from the metal side for 3-5 seconds if you really dont have 'time' to clean it, and you will avoid any messing with the MP when you want to use your Pax.

Why wouldnt you send it in? I just sent mine in last week, if you clean it then your good, why worry?

Just dont fill up the oven, burn it through on high and then immediately throw it in the box. (Dont be dumb)

So after looking at multiple portables, the PAX seems the one thats most ideal for me. Before I pull the trigger, is there anything I should know before buying it? Any general information that isn't in the guide that comes with the unit? I don't mind looking through a few pages, but 200 is a bit lengthy.

Just make sure you clean it, that is the only thing with these. I love mine, and it is a labor of love that you have to do to make sure it runs at high performance. I think it is well worth it.

At first u will struggle with it getting stuck and temp changing
Blowing air into it is the only fix for me where i dont have to clean my pax constantly. Keep it upright when its hot so it doesnt get gummed up.

I now clean my pax like 2 times a month and use it everyday.

The Fork, did you really just suggest that Ploom offers a 10-year warranty to try to somehow give someone false hope that their product isn't a POS? LOL. I think you have that backwards, man. How many vapes do you know that carry a 10-year warranty? Shit, how many products do you know period that offers a 10-year warranty?

I feel your concerns. I had the same concerns and still do, really, since I have only had my Pax for about three weeks now. It's the 10-year warranty that encouraged me to give it a go, though. That gives me piece of mind that if I do have problems, I'm covered.

I think all vapes have their positives and negatives, though, and problems like some have experienced with the Pax are not all that unusual. One thing to keep in mind is that vaporizers are a pretty new technology and new models are coming out all the time. It is inevitable that the technology will have some growing pains.

And in the obvious comparisons to Apple stuff, before anyone starts saying that it's different because Apple products don't have issues, they might want to talk to adopters of the first iPad.

I am not saying it is a POS but u have to have a greater understanding of how business decisions are made. Warranty expense is as the term suggests an expense. A company doesn't think "hey wow our product is so great that we can give it a 10 year warranty bc it is so great" as your post kind of suggests. It is a cost benefit based decision and if you do not need to offer the huge warranty then you don't do it because it will eat into your profit margin. I surmise that Ploom had an idea of the failure rate and knew that an impressive warranty was needed to combat the problematic item. I have been in rooms when decisions of this type have been made for F500 products. The time and money for a redesign probably wasn't there at the time so they needed to get the product rolling ASAP for cash flow purposes and cognizant of the projected failure rate gave the 10 year warranty taking into account how many people they projected would actually submit warranty claims against their hurdle rate projections. BOTTOMLINE u do not offer a 10 year warranty on an item unless u feel u HAVE to. Other people can come on here and disagree say how dealers are reporting low failure rates and it is great , but the 10 year warranty is more of a red flag than a product positive.

The average person would never send this item in for warranty service and Ploom knows this. There is no way I would send mine back via mail over state lines, it is never 100% clean. I have accomplished too much in life to take risks of that sort. However, I have enough money that I bought the expensive toy knowing how problematic it was though I initially wavered on the call. I realize people here have sent it back via the mail, I just won't take risks of that sort and a few other posters seem to agree with me on this. All this = why u get a 10 year warranty. This is really basic GAAP accounting too. The longer the warranty the more warranty liabilities u have to accrue for etc.

Interesting point, and I do see what you are saying. On the other hand, I have had several electronic components that go to shit literally right after the one-year warranty ends. At that point, you just throw it in the trash and buy new since fixing an electronic device is almost always more expensive than just buying a new one. On the other hand, if you're broke like I am, that can be a significant problem. I do see your point, though. Ten years is almost so much that I could see how it could be used as a way to overcome other issues that could cause buyers to be wary. Hell, it worked on me! I don't mind sending it back to them if I need to, though, so I guess it works to both our advantage, which in the end is the best type of business deal I suppose.

Does anyone have advice for a protective little case for the Pax? I don't want to get this beauty all scratched up...

mollee,
Alright, so mollee's question encouraged me to take some pics of my "Pax Pac." This little pack is perfect for on the go. It has everything I need to both enjoy and clean my Pax, and it folds up nicely and even fits comfortably in the back pocket of a pair of jeans.

The bag is the Maxpedition Micro Pocket Organizer (http://www.amazon.com/Maxpedition-M...&sr=8-4&keywords=maxpedition pocket organizer). In the bag I put

1. two corked 1/2 oz vials, one for herbs and one for kief. I got the vials from Specialty Bottles (http://www.specialtybottle.com/clearglassvial12oz4drmwcork.aspx). They are perfect for carrying and loading. As you can see in the pic, I have a trimmed bamboo skewer stored in the cork inside the bottle for stirring, etc. Works great.

2. My Pax

3. Alcohol swabs.

4. Teeth cleaners in a little plastic case that came with them.

5. Trimmed pipe cleaners, short enough to fit in the bag but long enough to push through the Pax. I like the bristly ones.

6. Q-tips. I like the ones with the tapered heads for precise cleaning. I found a little felt bag to store them in.

Here it is packed. On the left in the back pocket are the q-tips. In the front straps are the herbs and kief, all ready to make a nice little sandwich in the Pax. On the right in the back pocket are the pipe cleaners, teeth cleaners, and alcohol swabs. Putting the Pax in the far right allows it to seat right next to the glass vials when closed.

And here it is closed. Note that it folds together very nicely with the vials on one side and the Pax on the other. Easy to carry and inconspicuous. Works as the perfect Pax Pac for me.

I would add that I had read way back in the thread that you can get a car charger that works with the Pax on ebay for $10 here. I bought one from that seller - I got it very quickly and it works. I just used it earlier for a little journey I took today.

I got one of these, it's a good size, to add a little stash along with inside... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LSTD38/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00
Wow, this looks really good, thank you!! Nice to have some extra room for those essential add-a-longs! ;)

Also, TheDudeNextDoor, that setup looks AWESOME! Amazing that u can fit all the essentials into a case that fits into your palm! Thank u so much for the pics! This is amazing!! :D And also thank you for the link to those glass vials! Everything in one set! :)

its 4:20 somewhere.....
i sent my pax back last monday and according to tracking i'll prolly be getting it back tomorrow. 10 business day turn around, no biggie. the folks at pax were great, emailed me the mailing slip. seems the blue light was a thermistor problem which is an electronic gizmo that senses temperature or something. if you go to the electronic section of wal mart or best buy they have all kinds of cases and bags for cameras, game controllers, etc. i found the perfect case there. if your on the fence, go for it.....cheers

Those glass vials are the absolute perfect on-the-go containers for herbs and kief. They're the perfect size to tap the herbs into the oven without making a huge mess. Trim a bamboo skewer to size and poke it into the inside bottom of the cork, and you got a built-in poker/cleaner/stirrer. I tried several different things that worked okay before I found these, and I have never looked back. Just be careful you don't sit on them and shatter them inside your bag! Really, though, the bag provides some cushion. I've dropped it on concrete without issue. Never had a problem yet.

I actually haven't used my PAX in about 2 weeks. It's really not efficient at all, although I am totally new to vapes in general and maybe it's just how these things are? Am I doing something wrong? When do you guys shut it down and dump the bowl and reload? I am finding the device works and tastes best when the bowl is packed fairly solid which seems to be about a half a gram. That is easily enough for a large joint which would last me an entire day taking 5 puffs at a time here and there. The PAX, I pack it up, let it get to temp (always medium) and I get about 4 or 5 very good rips before it starts tasting a little like burnt popcorn. I then flip the brick (or stir) and I'm good for maybe another 5 rips or so and then it starts tasting like burnt popcorn. A half gram joint would be good for at least 20-30 good rips. I only get very good flowers, extreme good quality, but when I was combusting a half oz would go almost a month for me. I can go through a half oz in 2 weeks easy with the PAX.

Is this just the nature of the beast with vaporizing or what? Should I be roasting the bowl much longer than I do? I save the ABV in a sealed jar, and it smells like burnt popcorn, but it also has a hint of good flower still in there.

Frustrated to say the least. People say to vape for better conservation, I am finding the direct opposite.

Start on yellow first. You might be able to take 5 puffs on yellow and turn it off and repeat too, yellow keeps the flavor so much longer than orange.

Flavour goes downhill relatively quickly with the Pax, due to the nature of conduction. Low setting gives great initial flavour, but as the load roasts, it will become nuttier in taste to downright harsh if you start hitting the red setting.

Pax will also use up alot more if you are not careful. I use mine only when on the go, because I like being able to power up and take a fat hit then be on my way. Being discreet is more important than the taste in my case.

So it's not that it's is a bad vaporizer, it just meets certain demands better than others IMO.

I vape everyday, for recreational use!

NOMAD
If you vape every single day for recreational use, you should be asking yourself if you aren't doing it for some medical reason ... most people I know that are "recreational" users that I know very well that are chronic (ie. daily or almost daily), tend to have underlying issues (IMHO) that are undiagnosed and if this helps take the edge off and makes them happy then what harm is there in self-medication?

In the information age I've noticed that ultimately a person is more informed and better able to make health choices about medication and other with the cooperation of their doctor than it is just the doctor prescribing something without the patient taking part in the selection ... better outcomes for people that are involved in selecting the medication that best works for them ... so self-medication with cannabis is not necessarily a bad thing nor that uncommon I don't think ... but anyways ...I'm rambling! ...

It's a hell of an anti-depressant

(The big pharma pills make you nauseous... MMJ makes you hungry, no contest imo)

I vape every day for the pure enjoyment and relaxation. My typical weekday is 9 hrs of work, shower, dinner, put the little one to bed, VAPE 2-3 hits, relax for a couple of hours, go to bed, repeat the next day.

On the weekends I tend to vape a lot more, starting right after lunch, taking 2-3 hits every few hours.

If I'm really busy at home sometimes I'll skip a day or two, but typically I'm a daily user at about 1.5-2g a week.
