as to the "Volcano Sponge System" or VSS for the herc as a jerry-rig til the new ones come out. full success. bigger hits, closer to the herculean size described earlier. seems to be trapping the oil around the ceramic rod really well and getting big hits on the way down. why is it that ever time i change up my system, whether it's using one oil rig to another, or one cart type to another. i always get that little extra kick. sparkly, lol
Hey Bob
Opps didn't see pics above
Are you pushing the sponge down around the rod to the base of heater and then the tank or are you just using the sponge w/no tank, and if so how much sponge are you putting into the sleve?
Thanks
Kevin

Just unboxing everything and I think I've already run into a problem...?

One of my heater assemblies seems to have holes on either side of it. Is this normal?

Thanks

That bottom one is way worse than either of mine were and they both took in oil. Would definitely open a ticket. The Hercules is awesome but there are one or two things they need to fix in production since it's fairly new.

Oh man seriously...?

This is a PITA if I have to ship everything back, I haven't even gotten a chance to use it and one's supposed to be my buddies lol... :(

Unfortunately these types of things happen when companies are innovating new designs and technology. One of my heaters died so I have to return it to Delta9, but the other one is still working well. I'm going to try and get some of the stainless steel Volcano pads to layer the bottom with.

By the way, you only need to return the defective part (at least that was the case with me).

I understand that these types of things happen.

It's not half as bad if you live in the states... Out here in Canada shipping is not cheap to D9 especially if you want to get things done decently fast :(

Ok so I just finished boiling the heater ends of the carts and blew them out dry and now they both have holes in the bottoms... WTF?

There's white residue inside the pot and all over the heater assembly :/

Think about it a minute. Don't those holes have to be there to vent air into the cart to sweep the vapor out?

Can't you suck air through your other vapes when cold? I can. I think it's normal.....

Looked at another way, how else would the holes get there?

So you're saying the holes in the pic I posted above are normal? Both of them now seem to have them after boiling?

Thank you boss, should I open up a ticket then and submit pics or?

So what happened isn't normal? Did I do something wrong or is it just once again my bad luck like usual?

Am I able to use either of my Hercs yet or should I hold off?

Yes, I am. Mine has them, the photos in post 6766 on page 271 clearly show them, they or something similar need to be there to let air in, somebody took the trouble to drill them, they're in both yours, why wouldn't you think they were intentional?

Send them back if you wish, but I think they're normal.....

But notice that his first heater doesn't have those holes. Neither of mine had those holes and the fact that the base isn't completely sealed has been the only real "problem" with the functionality of the Hercules. As many of us suspected and Bob has confirmed, once the oil is stopped from seeping into the base of the heating unit, the Hercules provides bigger rips and wastes no oil.

Edit: Interesting that SlideOrDie now has holes in the first after boiling but not before. I'm wondering what's going on.

Double Edit: Even G recommended (maybe not recommended but did say that SOD should send it back and he'll eat the cost of shipping) that it be returned, no? So clearly something isn't right with those holes? All I know is my Hercules gives me the tastiest nail sized hit I've ever had after it gets heated up and collects some oil on the base.

I can't see yours from here, but he said "Both of them now seem to have them after boiling?".

I think poor/lack of seal at the heater is a fault, not a feature. Put another way, I can draw air though mine like an Omicron or DART cart until I block the two holes. They seem to be vents like the two holes in the outer heat shield.

So he has two, I have one, there's a photo of another on the thread. The holes seem drilled on purpose......

I still think they're supposed to be there. Like the two holes above the threads on the Omicron cart. Same function exactly.

G, here's your big chance to tell one and all just how full I am of what kind of beans?

Sorry OF, I ended up editing my above post to add the rest of my thoughts. Didn't want to have two back to back posts!

Also, I agree there must be air holes but those just seem a little excessive. But honestly, what the hell do I know?

So both of the carts look pretty much identical now...

Would I be ok to give one of them a shot if I use the volcano pad idea or should I just go ahead with the replacement? I ran out and grabbed one just as the headshop was closing!

It's difficult and messy as fuck to cut and get properly fit but I think I've nearly got one shaped perfectly and am dying to give Hercules a try!

Bob's the expert here, I haven't tried mine yet (too busy with other stuff so far). If it was mine I'd go for it. It's not all that much harder to clean it up and send it back as it is to just send it back. And it might work for you, at least to some extent for a while. More than you have now, an no real risk I see.

if i cant get a hold of 99% iso will 93% work for washing the herc?

I've been using it for clean ups since I ran out of 99% a while back. I'm sure it doesn't work as well as 99% for making QISO and such, but for clean up it seems to work fine to me.

Both of my heater cores look like that! Still work fine, the one I'm using weighted in at 9.5.
I'm going to use it until it breaks and maybe G will have the fix by then.

So am I ok to go ahead and give one of the Hercs a try boss since they both have holes now? Or would you prefer I just contact support by opening up a ticket and get them sorted now?

I've managed to do the Volcano pad mod like bob has shown.
