Vaporizer (da buddha) only really works with weed?

I have had a da buddha vaporizer for a while now and tried a few other herbs with it (wild dagga spice blends, mint, and others) but the vapor cloud seems completely minimal compared to what comes out with weed. I know it is best to hold the vapor in but in this case there isn't much vapor to hold in to begin with.. Perhaps something to do with all the resin in weed and the lack of it in other herbs?

Also I have heard people say that they conserve weed but this does not seem to be the case with me.. If I smoke weed I will use only a few flakes of it in a pipe but a vaporizer will decimate a bowl (prob 6 or 7 pipes for me) in about 4 or 5 hits

Regardless I cannot use it at the moment because weed is so scarce and I need to conserve it as much as possible so pipes are the option I choose

Is there something wrong with my vaporizer or do they just tend to conserve weed for people who smoke fat pipes/bongs

Well, a vapourizer is more efficient than smoking, this is just a fact. But an increase in efficiency of herb is basically like a reduction in price. There are two effects this can have: the income effect and the substitution effect.

The income effect can be explained by saying that given a price drop in a good you consume, all else equal, you are effectively more rich than before. You have more purchasing powering. The result is that you buy more of all normal goods (of which weed is one).

The substitution effect can be explained using a price drop as an example by saying that since pot is cheaper, all else equal, you will substitute away from all other goods towards pot.

These are very good reasons why, despite the efficiency increase, many people will end up consuming more. It's why I consume far more than previous. Tolerance can also play a very large roll, generally to increase consumption.

As for efficiency tips with DBV (or SSV really), always make sure your screens are clean and have minimal air-flow restriction (being a stinge with screens only makes sense when the screens cost more than the efficiency loss, and given screens are cheap and pot is expensive, you should always have a clean screen), and don't pack huge bowls. Maybe a cm tall at max? Try to see the minimal amount necessary to get nice hits.

Some people also have cut a little piece of the whip and used it to elevate the screen to work better with smaller load sizes. I can load really small piece of herb and get a few good rips out of my ssv and as long as I give it some time to kick in I am always surprised by how effective one or two hits can be. Are you sure it doesn't seem more efficient because of the by products from combustion affecting you immediately or your bowl being done forces you to stop your session. While with the dbv you continue vaping until the vapor effects kick in which is 5-10 minutes usually which causes you to consume more then necessary?

And OT to your original question a lot of those herbs have higher temperatures you may need to vape at. The dbv should be capable of vaping whatever you put in it, as long as its vapable lol

since the DBV does not have a digital temp control you'll have to play around with your knob (lol) to find the right setting for each herb.

And you only get 4-5 hits per bowl? How much of the volume of the bowl do you pack?

The first days i had my DBV this was also the case for me, until i realized that my heat was way too high and i was inhaling way too slow. Nearly burned my bud a few times doing this. It was because i got vapor nearly as thick as smoke like this, and i thought it was supposed to be like that. I was kind of disappointed at first and nearly regretted buying my DBV, boy was i wrong.

It's was only when i used lower starting temps and gradually worked my way up, that vaping became way more efficient than smoking for me. I fill the bowl about 1/3 (or more if it's for group consumption) and get about 10-30 tokes, depending on quality of the herb, size of the hits (draw speed) and the temp i stop at.

I forgot all about this thread. Thanks for the replies

I find it hard to believe you can get 30 hits out of a dbv,

I suppose I will start from scratch again and get back to practice (even though I have had the thing for months lol)

Think I will put a few pipes worth in the bowl and vape it with the knob at 11 o clock taking slowish pulls.

I usually pull from the bottom of my lungs until they are full. Idk if that could be why I use more.

I assume(hope) my vaporizer is not in any way faulty if it can get me medicated and produce vapor with cannabis rather than other plants and I assume (hope) the reason I was using more of my stash was because of my technique.

Can't wait to have some again.. So depressed.. Another victim of prohibition :)

The opposite was true for me. I could drop a few flakes into my MFLB and get a few good tokes out of it, but if I put the same amount in a bowl it'd be burnt up and I'd hardly get any actives.

The DBV is probably not the best at conservation, but I'm sure it's still better than combusting. You probably just need to focus solely on vaporizing for a bit.

Not all vapour is visible, and not all material vaporizes at the same temperature.

Remember, it takes the cannabinoids about 10-15 minutes for the high to kick in. This is whether you're vaping or smoking, but with smoking you also get the initial rush from the [non-cannabinoid smoke constituents](http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_info3.shtml). But because you don't get that immediate rush from vaping, it's easy to keep vaping and vaping until you feel enough. Problem is, you'll just keep getting even higher after that as the high lag catches up.

So when you vape, wait for a quarter of an hour after your first hit. If you still feel like more after that, have more. But yeah, the Da Buddha isn't one of those vapes made to really encourage conservation.

I didn't know the high takes that long to kick in..Have you got a source that verifys this, because id be interested in reading more about it. I get pretty dopey and light headed and do a stupid goofy/retarded laugh with the whip in my hand after just one hit.

I have found a system of using it I think that does indeed save me alot of weed. I get about a pipes worth and put it in the whip, this isn't even enough to cover the screen.. Then i crank the power up to full blast and take slow tokes on it, once I have had one hit i mash the leaves up in the whip and take another.. I can get 4 or 5 hits out of one pipe hit this way.

Mind you having said this, after a few days of vaping.. I don't know if it is just because of the strain that I have but it is way too heady and not stoney enough it has a full on head/body rush and is a little too clear headed for my liking.. I don't see how it isn't stoney as My strain is afghan which is supposed to be a pure indica

Most likely it was harvested to early before the trichomes fully developed. Could just be the way the phenotypes came out in that particular plant lineage though.

That's certainly not the norm. Maximum temp and slow hits (often producing combustion), is usually the best way to go through herb in a hurry.
