DIY vape for first time?

I'm looking to see if any of you guys have had any success with a made-at-home vape. I can't smoke because of asthmatic reactions. My friend says he can make one out of a clean light bulb, but I've heard they are unreliable in terms of heat - can either be too much or too little unless you know what you're doing. Which I don't. I've got about two weeks until I'm going to do it (waiting until the semester is over), so I have some time to prepare if I need to put anything together.

Any suggestions? Thanks, guys!

Perhaps you should 1st try to identify vaporizer hardware available as replacement parts, then it would become possible to pick the proper suplier for what you've got in mind. It's what was done with the Hakko "mods" as i recall.

Personally i'd aim for a halogen heat source because of power, speed and cleanliness. Although i'd much prefer to play with induction heating if samples of suitable Curie alloys could be obtained. But in the end it might turn into an expensive hobby, of course. So i simply make circles around a ready-made HerbalAire instead, trying to figure out how to "mod" it on a humble budget.

Thank you for your response! While your idea does look interesting, I was hoping for something more along the lines of the light-bulb vape where all the pieces are cheap, and may already be in my house. I'd rather not spend money on things that can't be used for something else if I'm not even sure I'll like the whole experience.

Quite frankly, conduction devices à la BC Vaporizer are a No-Go right from the start. Halogen lamps can be found relatively easily and they often sell with a pre-installed rheostat, but you may prefer soldering irons... In which case there already are some excellent threads showing how to modify a temperature-controlled Hakko, but this project depends on a glass vaporizer replacement part i believe:


If you must depend on hardware found in a kitchen only then there's always the possibility to cook, at least with that method you wouldn't risk having as bad an initiation as with a BC Vaporizer clone!
