Discontinued The Persei Vaporizer for herbs and concentrates.

Always thinking, aren't you NDA? A real 'outside the box' kinda guy.

No Oscar Wilde points this time . Keep trying for that scholarship; They have amazing cheerleaders :)

I'm actually waiting anxiously for my Herc. As someone else recently mentioned, where there's a will there's a way. I have 4 small capsules each of PG and PG+ (2g of each), from California, sitting here waiting for a Herc to arrive. It is hard to wait, but I'd MUCH rather wait than waste these. They could always go into a DART if I can't resist, but I'm sure I can hold out another month or two.

Anyway, I REALLY want the Herc. And I'm satisfied with the descriptions and limitations given - I often have thin and clean oils. I just REALLY want it to work the first time and not fall apart after a few weeks - nor after 3 or 4 months.

We will see. I'm sure it will work, and will all be good. But how much time and inconvenience is unclear.

That in it self Nick is going to get handled, but our of the all the issues, only 1 is known to be bad, the other is user error. This user error is based on the fact that the Persei threads where not cleaned out which creates a glue like bond and pulls out the parts. Thats fine we are on it and will handle all issues.

If this is referring to my problem with the bottom thread coming out I have to speak up.

I always clean my threads with ISO everytime I put a cart on. That was not the issue however I see how it could be. My problem arose from putting it in my pocket, which I hope is not considered user error. The next day I screwed it in after boiling the herc and cleaning my threads, put it in my pocket and drive to my GF's. get there pull it out and it's in 2 pieces.

If putting my "Portable" vape in my pocket to travel breaks it and is called "user error", then I think the name needs to be changed from Hercules to "paper tiger".

Still works but definitly broke before I could even use it.

All this seems to make sense. Not knowing, I checked docs from Dupont:
http://www2.dupont.com/Plastics/en_US/assets/downloads/design/DELDGe.pdf

It seems that Delrin softens and deforms at temperatures below the boiling point of water. One quote (from p14 above)
As an example,
for a mould dimension of 30 mm manufactured
to within ± 0,01 mm, experience has shown that
dimensional consistency better than ± 0,03 to
0,04 mm cannot be expected for parts from differ-
ent cavities in a single shot.
So it seems that trying to embed a metal threaded connector into most Delrin resins ()except some of the specialty resins, is not recommended for reasons of precision and tolerances as well as possible deformation (particularly when warm).

I'm sure there is a solution, but I'm not so certain that a pressed-in 601 threaded insert will ever hold well enough in a Delrin substrate (but, they do have glass and Teflon filled versions that might work).

This squares with my experience with those sorts of inserts in such non metallic pieces where there is much force applied in the axis they were pressed in. They press in or back out again without much resistance even under ideal conditions.

"Nutcerts" popping out in service and I go way back.

Consider then you screw it on the battery you now have a good handle on each side of the connection to 'lever' it out with. That is flex it (like might happen in your pocket......like seems to be the case here) and you start to back one side out since the other side can't go further in. You have a mechanical advantage to work with on that lever, much as with a crowbar.

I don't want to try on mine, but I bet if you flexed the assembled unit in your hands and wiggled it back and forth a bit this is exactly what would happen?

TRM may just have had the honor of being the first guy to try the 'pocket test'. But others have had this, right?

My 'take' is existing units are probably OK if handled carefully, but some fix will probably be needed, most likely a new assembly. I'm guessing either a metal body or some sort of bonding?

I cleaned my herc cart last night and I can confirm that the heating element does indead move and the base is not sealed. I can see alcohol mixed with oil coming from the base of the heate after cleaning the area. Also, oil was coming out of the holes in the inner tube and covered the outside of the heater. The heater sealing is a manufacturing defect, right G? I submitted a support ticket.
On another note, I tried herb and it works, I was able to vape and so was my gf but she ended up combusting slightly from laying on the button too hard. Once it gets hot, the best thing to do is take small 5-7 second sips. Great device, I just hope the issue can be resolved.

How about any new owners be advised against boiling the outer shell. I did not think the
threads would fare well with the heat, so I just wiped off with iso. I did boil all the innards.

Guys there is nothing i can say that can repair the damage that has been caused by this issue we had with production, other then try to fix the issue and stand behind our products.

In testing the unit worked great, and we had no issues what so ever, all issues had been resolved.

I have devoted my time now to figure out and fix all issues that have come up.

There needs to be a small wobble on the base to allow play so that the ceramic does not crack under stress. If there is some sort of bonding when heating it up the Stainless Steel inner shell will expand and crack the base, rendering it useless.

Now for oil getting into the innards of the Cartridge, With all tests a .2-.3 there is no way that is enough oil for it to be absorbed, vaped, and still have enough to get inside the shell, this only happened when we over filled it and did not properly cool it down while after use, but even then the oil just gathered on the bottom, but seeing as this might be an issue we are trying to figure out how to fix this issue also.

Anyone wishing to have a refund will get one, anyone who wishes to wait for the replacements will also get theirs replaced as soon as possible.

Thanks G, we know how hard you work to make us happy. At least we have almost instant response
any time there are new issues. How many other developers react as quickly. If there are any doubters,
stay tuned. D9 has always done me right, no ass kissing needed this is just a fact.....

WORD. .... always done me right also. It's like OF said about being on the cutting edge oops, can't quite remember his exact words, too much Hercules testing at the moment.

IMO there's no need to say more than 'we're on it and will make it right'. We really can't ask for more....well yeah some guys will ask for anything these days (how about a free Persei for my trouble?) but I think it's fair to say we should expect no more than your making it good when you can.

I won't even respond to the other part, which seems to indicate somebody thinks you're dumb (or crooked?) enough to find a problem and ship anyway.......

I, for one, will be interested in seeing how this works out. But I have no doubt that will and in a timely manner. Best not to temp Murphy you know.

Seems to me all the solid, innovative stuff these folks have put out earns them more than a little slack. And, as noted by others, G is exceptionally communicative. I, personally, enjoy it all the more given his willingness to dialogue and even debate with users about the best way to use his products.

Also, I'd like to note the value that FC'ers deliver when they bang away at new products. The Herc is still on the bleeding edge and folks around here seem game to help it stay there.

Zep Organic Drain Cleaner from Home Depot....works on ONLY glass and needs to be rinsed very well.

Takes about four hours of soaking to kick the nastiest crap out of the Bender.

D-Limon (main chemical in Zep Drain Cleaner and Grunge Off Super Soaker) can mess with labels so the UP logo "could" be harmed but I have had no issues.

Guys for the herb issue on the bender we are using McFinns organic cotton. It is the industry standard and will go up on the site shortly.
those are nice. i use their carbon filter as well. good lookin' out.

a word on the hercules. mine does leak slightly from the bottom when i overfill the tank, but other than that this thing hits like it's namesake. only thing i have seen come close to it's vapor production is dual carting darts. a warning on inhalation speed. if you do overfill like i do/did then you might find that pool of oil on the bottom getting sucked up into the intake holes and ending up between the stainless core and the insulation sleeve. can make separating the two a little difficult, but as always with oil, just add heat and it lets go. this truly is the "nail cart" we have been looking for. just seal up the bottom and it's money. my two cents

EDiT - also, maybe a tank top with a hole in it for a more straight-forward air path. when ur done, just trade with the sealed top for transportation. just a thought. maybe a good one, ;)

Thats a good idea(tank top),its already a beast, with the new tanks there working on might produce 2 times the amount of vapor:o

Yup....happened to me as I was demoing it to a dude. He got a mouth full of duff and after coughing and hacking he had just enough energy to ask...."What was the website I can get this off of?"

Everyone that has tried it so far has asked the same question....hoping the Herc delivers the same punch in a durable form factor.

Fully Melted

It's OK to enjoy your medicine.
For the Bender, I drop a welded SS screen in mine, especially if I grind the load a bit too much. The Mc Finn's cotton works great but a screen fits in the hidey-hole in the standard Persei bottom cap. ;)

Safety Warning: Do not put anything that will block the bottom emergency vent holes on the Persei.

Thanks for the update and quick attention to the situation G, we all appreciate your devotion to making us happy.

That being said, will all of the Hercules' still be shipping out this week as planned or will this be another delay?
