Much appreciated for the info! I may consider this down the road for the oil capabilities then. and a sipper would probably not satisfy for me then. I found the pax didn't satisfy me even. atm it's solo all the way for portable needs!

Otherwise Brother WM, as I told disappointed DR over there in the corner,

Thanks for the response! Could you please clarify what the part i quoted you with means? Who is WM (me?) and who is DR? otherwise I understand :p I just did a nice dab, and now I can't figure it out. not sure if it's me, or the bho :p

I think yes, you, WeedeMon, and DR is Dreamerr

But I just killed some hash, so what do I know?? I have a bit of oil drying out for tomorrow morning!

Also, interesting cloud density in the promo video. Looks like it delivers pretty well.

Mmm....Not really new ... these infos were already there, just a new look..... Now we just want to see Cera in use !

Now about stirring, on the features page it says : 'stir-free' but in the FAQ we can read :
"It is helpful to stir the loaded bowl in the ThermoVape between inhales to maximize the extraction of the botanical" .......... So i don't know what to think ..........Hopefully OF seems to says that no stirring is needed..... and i think it's a big plus for a portable/stealth vape like the Cera.
And maybe a Black version of the Cera will be more discreet.....just my thoughts....

Sorry for being so cryptic, DR is Darkrom, our long suffering TV owner who put so much stock in lots of battery life coupled to huge clouds.....but instead gets 'the worlds worst luck' from time to time.

Please don't give up on this guys cloud potential completely. It's not naturally a big cloud machine in my hands. Not yet anyway. It can definitely be pushed to make more vapor than I am getting right now. Not enough to satisfy a true believer in the Church of the Big Cloud I think, but it has potential for bigger clouds than I'm currently getting. After all, BDV can milk up that glass with his MFLB on batteries thorough special technique.

I don't see it as the answer to a cloud chaser's prayers. No automatic fog banks capable of stopping a charging Buffalo. And I want to be careful that nobody takes the positive stuff I say about the device (and there's lots of that to go around) to jump to the idea of huge clouds being a feature as well and putting their money down. I think spiking it with hash (not a workable solution for many) has promise I intend to explore (probably next?), followed by some serious attempts for maximum output (lots of fine high potency bud, lots of heat, slow draw and so on) to try to get a handle on that potential. Somewhere in there the oil cart should show as well. I expect a busy week or so to come getting to know this guy better. A lot remains to be done before that release date. Most important is looking for fatal flaws in the production version prior to release (including doing stuff some novice might do like key it on for half an hour straight....which seems like not such a bad idea when you actually try it). Along the way, hopefully, checking out how it's likely to perform under real world conditions for real users. It's this latter part I'm trying to pass on as fast as I can get some solid results of interest.

I understand some guys could care less about another large, heavy, expensive vape with 'wispy clouds' and long for that 'awesome fat rip' on tap for instant use....I just haven't seen it and seriously doubt it will be the answer to those prayers, surely not for all. But it's no dry hole either. For now I'm seeing some exciting performance at the modest end of things and am exploring that before moving on. Frustrating as that is for others, it's the way I am. It's how I stay organized....such as I do.

Also I expect more folks to try this out soon, not only other Beta Test units when more are available but by passing this one on to other users for their take. That should include both Solo owners and guys more keen on big clouds than I am.

Sorry to ramble, please don't give up completely on the herb unit, at least not yet. Sit on your wallet.

Thanks.

Sorry, I disagree. There are several new details (not discussed publicly before) there. Perhaps not key ones to many but IMO significant and accurate. You have to look for them (and perhaps know what to look for). I understand folks want videos of huge clouds happening. So do I. I'm just not the guy to do videos, even if I (currently) could get those clouds going.

I'm guessing the 'better to stir' advice is a cut and past artifact of the past? For sure I see no need to stir. In fact I don't dump it and break up the lumps after a few hits as I usually do with such vapes. Even though the lid goes on and off easily (much more so than the threads on T1) there's just no need to. Which is a good thing, 'cuz that sucker can get hot over a long session of slow sips and you'd look pretty strange using gloves.....

Don't hold out hope for colors, AFAIK there are no dyes, surface treatments or paints to make this happen with this material (which is after all the 'poly crystal' version of cubic Zirconia as used in that flashy ring you told the wife was a diamond). Some form of wrap may solve several issues there?

Will be nice to see if the oil cartridge will out perform the dart.
I sure hope so.
Starting to have doubts about the herb cartridge already. (I looking for "an awesome fat rip on tap for instant use" kinda device)
Hopefully some more testers will have units soon.
Then we can actually see this thing in use.
Still doesn't seem "real" to me until I see it operating.

Thankfully we have OF's input to keep us informed until we can receive our own units.

Did you mean a wrap OF? Coloured stickers would be a great way to personalise these - I know I'd really prefer a black body...

Yup, sure did, thanks. Corrected now.

FWIW I buy black vapes as well given the choice. It just seems more natural somehow. But this stuff is 'white on white'. It reflects light like few other materials. It's the stuff they make tooth caps out of for heaven's sake....and nobody's paying those kinda bucks for dull teeth.

Who knows what sort of stuff will come up. Stickers are one option for sure. As is that film used for detailing autos that PV used to make Black Omicrons with. Subject to handling the heat of course. Or maybe some Silicone rubber tube or sleeve? I'm thinking of trying a cloth wrap with some Velcro.....

The opera is far from over.

Or maybe some Silicone rubber tube or sleeve?

Something that is silicone rubber and heat resistant with a good grip in black (or any color) with holes in all the right places (switch, air holes). Comes in 3 pieces so you can take the top off and the bottom off to change the load and battery. It will need to be able to stretch to get over the switch and yet be tight to the body. Maybe ThermoVape can find an American company to do that.

All good thoughts. I'm a believer in the Capitalist system, if the demand is there, some smart guy is going to 'find a need and fill it'. Driven by the profit motive or principle, to the market it doesn't matter. The customer gets the option.....cool.

I look at it at two levels, stealth and performance. It would be nice to cover all the white, but insulating the part you hold and improving the grip a bit would be worth the price of admission IMO. Just the center part. Perhaps even a piece of hose or heat shrink tube (might end up being self shrinking.....). IMO it won't take long for ideas to get tried. Try enough of the not so good ones and you hit a good or even great one.

As they taught us at the Hoover Institute, "Knock on enough doors and eventually you'll sell a vacuum".

You could also try a high temp shrink wrap/tube such as ones made of teflon(ptfe). It would be resistant to most chemicals and shrink at around 500F for the ones I found.

Edit: Darn it OF, beat me to it while I was looking up viable candidates for the job

I believe he meant darkrom...he is the cloud chaser not me. I am a med user who just wants meds not clouds to cause people to look and smell.

OF you mentioned a number of times the heat of the unit. Does the mouth piece get hot as well? Is the air path very short that you might need to lengthen it?

Yes, Darkrom for sure. I don't understand anyone confusing you for him, you don't look at all alike....

Good point about the MP heat, let's start there? There's some fun news from the quick test I just ran as well, but since you asked.....

Yes, as I said before it gets harder and harder to 'pucker up' if you run it long times like I am. The MP itself is OK, it's the cover around it that tries to burn your lips.....while you try not to chip a tooth as you dutifully test on. Or at least it was distracting. So I put a one inch long piece of Silicone tube (500F rated) on the MP itself. Half inch OD thin wall, it grabs on the straight part of the MP just fine and makes it easy to find and use the business end without looking (something I'm prone to do while involved with supervising the garden don't you know....and testing, of course). That's why I can tell you the time of the session, basically how I'm hitting, but not the count. So yes, I'm using a very short piece of tube and will recommend folks try it in the end I think.

Now to some of the other fun discoveries. My third bowl (first 20 minutes, second 16) started out slower which I initially wrote off to the different bud involved. I ran out of the Og Kush I had ground (lots of testing) and when I went to get another 1/8 to use it wasn't where I thought....but some Goo I got the other day and intended to try got ground instead. I know, bad protocol and all, but I didn't see much harm and it would serve two purposes and all so in it went. When ground in it went to Cera fresh from the grinder (unlike before which 'aged' a couple days post grind). So it was longer and starting slower, half expected. At a bit over 8 minutes into it, 44 total, I decided to try a fresh battery (always good advice, IMO). That one went in reading 3.6 Voilts and came out reading 3.4 (five or so minutes later), but of course those are unloaded values and we know it's going to 'sag' under load. Anyway, instant (well a minute maybe) very radical change. After an improved (and improving as it went) first hit I got behind the next, following the taste more than the heat (this guy can be deceptive there) enjoying the sudden change.....enjoyed it too much, ignoring the little voices screaming at me to ease up and get some Oxygen going instead, I kept up the attention on the little mini test going on until it was too late. I paid for it with a coughing fit that took me right back to Mexican brick weed from my youth. I must have been quite a sight! Easily the worse 'turkey hit' in a long time (something I try to avoid....). I nearly dropped the little jewel.

Based on the exhaust I blew out, by my standards huge clouds are experimentally possible (although not really recommended this way.....) in the Laboratory. No, make that the garden.

Make no mistake, this was not combustion by any measure. Yes I checked the load, it's still fairly fresh in fact. I also took one more modest hit after my vision returned and the ringing (and echo) stopped. Perhaps a minute, probably a bit more, after my near death experience in the name of science. Nice thing about conduction vapes, it didn't run away, it just quietly cooled down a bit and waited for me to catch up. The next 'normal' hit was light and sweet, no hint of popcorn. It had simply overpowered me (probably no big feat in the big world), catching me by surprise.

Now experimental data ain't worth squat if it's not repeatable, but I'm convinced there's some gold in them thar hills. Not a lot, probably only under narrow conditions (which of course we'll try to identify and optimize), but more vapor than I can use happened. "Use"? No, make that 'hold'. An almost scary amount given how much went in so easily. Not enough I think for a mid level cloud chaser to get too worked up over, but more than I expected. Be kind of fun finding the answer there, if I don't kill myself in the process......

In other news, I got the word from TV, my 10 Watt core is ready, I'm planning on getting it a bit later. This means not only trying to optimize the power level for production units, but it also lets me try bubble hash since I'll have a backup core to keep the test going if I have an accident. And the oil cart is coming. Lots of different bases to cover, but we're getting there I think.

Finally a word about that battery life.....it was still working at 3/4 of an hour of basically continuous run (3 stages actually). About what the specs say, and a HUGE improvement. Some guys would have run 2 or 3 bowls to my one. Maybe even most would. That's a lot of battery life. Maybe even enough for DR? Dare we hope? That's rough data from one run with a prototype heater but it's certainly good news IMO.

More later when I know more. Thanks for suffering though a long post, hope you found something to interest (or at least amuse) you.

Ask them when you go over there to get your unit if they will make a longer mouth piece to keep you from burning your lips on the core. I was worried as soon as I saw that little nipple. If they aren't going to do that will they include a piece or two of proper tubing for it can work as well.

I am loving your review so far as you go for some of what I do.

The lengths you go to in the name of science. Please don't blow out a lung and croak on us. :(
But if/when you do,rest assured you will be given true Marijuana Martyr status. I will personally lead the crew to carve your mug on Mt. Rushmore. We'll have to do some blasting to clear some space, but really, who gives a shit about Thomas Jefferson anymore?

I'm sure we'll be discussing it, I'm angling toward the tube idea as I think the MP insert is a molded piece meaning tooling changes and long lead times (longer still if it needs machining). They no doubt had a reason to make it this length, perhaps I'm just outside that window?

Thanks for the kind words. Good show we differ some, wouldn't do you any good to get mistaken for me, being taken for DR is plenty......

My only beef with the silicone tubing idea is all my tubing around here seems to be a dust/debris magnet... it starts to look fuzzy pretty fast. Might make for some extra maintenance, to keep it clean, but I can also see it being a great layer of insulation from the heat for your hand.

It does seem there should be some way to fabricate "sleeves" or "skins" similar to what we see for phones that are rubbery, and fit like a glove. I am sure these are all points that have been considered, and may be in the future. I don't know why I have an aversion to white stuff, maybe in my mind I feel it will show stains/resin build up and eventually look brown. I don't know if that is the case here since its not porous, and shouldn't stain if I understand correctly.

vinyl sticker material will probably be a cheap easy fix too, but migh need changing out once in a while when they bugger up. I like change...

That is my biggest issue with tubing as well in addition to smelling up any room the tubing is in till the end of time.

Hey OF,

I remember that Noah posted:

There is an additional feature to the Cera that I forgot to mention. You may have noticed there is a bit of play (y-axis if she was standing on end and upright) with the mouthpiece. Meaning we built in 1.5mm of "travel" in the mouthpiece, so it can be slightly pulled out, or slightly pushed in. Or pushed in and then pulled out for a little tamping action. This will not have a huge factor in the draw. However there are some subtle benefits of this feature.

Also of note, with the mouthpiece removed, the opening to the Cera Top Cap is exactly 1/2 inch. This is part of our goal of making a more open source/open platform vaporizer (i.e. common dimensions/thread patterns etc.). We have done this to allow people who wish to further customize or modify their final vapor path, the most flexibility possible. The Outside Diameter of the Cera is also Exactly 1" so endless options from Colored Silicon tubing to "Skin" the Cera, to many storage options are available, off the shelf.

For the die hard modder there are many more features to the Cera that were built with them in mind. We also firmly believe that by building the device around common/industry standards we have built some serious longevity into the platform.

So it sounds like while the MP might be used to slightly 'tamp down' a load, it is still not quite long enough (pulled out) to prevent heat discomfort? Maybe Noah can expand on "there are some subtle benefits of this feature"??????
