Well, sadly it seems the honeymoon is over with my Pax, though for now I'll chalk it up to being on par with having to clean a really nasty one hitter.

So, this is the 3rd bowl fill in my pax. I am an extremely light user (one use a day, max 2). I have had the Pax for 2 weeks now. It has been cleaned three times in that timeframe (after each bowl fill). After using it, while still hot, I made sure to actuate the mouthpiece several times. After closing the mouthpiece, to turn the unit off, I have done my best to suck any remaining vapor out. So, I have basically followed Ploom's directions to a T, plus all of the recommendations from this thread.

As of last night, my Pax started behaving badly. While trying to heat, it started flashing the color of the heat setting (in this case medium). It got pretty bad - to the point where I really couldn't use it without a lot of struggle.

This AM I started doing another cleaning. I did as shown in the video - wipe down pipe cleaners with the towlettes, run them through a few times. I did a visual inspection Between the metal part in the unit, and the mouthpiece, there was a little bit of gunk. That was all removed pretty quickly with a pipe cleaner and the towlette. I cleaned the mouthpiece, and then blew into it since some folks were reporting that can help fix it.

I put everything back together and turned it on - it's better, but not perfect. I do have to actually play with the mouthpiece now to get the light to change from green to yellow/orange/red, but it still does it, but it seems like it would be ok for normal use.

I'm not how I feel about this. While I AM using it daily, it is for one or two puffs and then it gets put away. The unit is just about spotlessly clean right now. I've done everything I could to keep the mouthpiece interconnect clean.

Right now I have it sitting next to me on hot so I can occasionally pull hot air through, and then I'll hit it again.

Overall I get the same results as you. You have to really be intimate when your cleaning your Pax. (Also leave your dirty MP overnight in ISO if you have a spare one.) This last clean started off bumpy but now I am not having any problems with my temp light/heat sensor. Surprisingly so I must say, as I expect to see the dreaded orange light. I even had a golden brown batch in the oven overnight and this morning I emptied and replaced and didnt get the problem. You have to blow through the metal part of the MP for 3-5 seconds if you do have the problem. I find that way to be the most effective.

I did that a few minutes ago, and despite all of the cleaning, that seems to have had the most impact (heck yeah nintendo trick!). The temp light only flashes for a brief second when I'm actively pushing in and popping out the mouthpiece now. I think that's fairly acceptable since I'm never going to have the mouthpiece half-in during active use. Perfect? No, but I'll live.

Sadly I don't see myself ever dumping out a bowl after every use to clean, it just doesn't seem to make sense to me to go through all of that additional hassle when I really don't use it that heavily.

Without the MP Air trick I would have been forced to return my Pax for another one. I did just receive my Raw rolling papers and tips in the mail though. I want to give those a try before I quit burning altogether.

This is the second report of a newer Pax having more airflow. More air increases the ratio of air to vapour therefore the hit is less cloudy. This implies a screen design change since that was the choke point for airflow. When you remove the screen, see if you can see any obvious difference.

The screen is exactly the same as the other one.

USPS tracking only shows when it was shipped and when it gets delivered.

Its not like UPS where you can track it all the way to its destination.

mod note: Back to back posts merged. Please use the Edit feature.

CarlosSpiceyWeiner,
I keep it on default medium setting. I'm gonna play with the mouthpiece a bit seeing as this is a problem area for many. If I'm unsuccessful ill have to send it back.

They should bring it to the door unless it is too big for the mail box. Mine came to the door. Congrats!

Its probably going to be the size of your forearm squared and I live in a converted house into a 4 plex apartment. I'm upstairs and they left it on my landing. I was just as excited as you. Today's wait is the worst. Just remember to charge it as soon as you get it while you are looking at the instructions and the pretty packaging.

So do I, and it has absolutely nothing to do with being desperate and everything to do with clearing out any vapour that might condense someplace where it will cause trouble.

Unless you do the same thing nomad and I did (soak the mouthpiece in ISO for a few minutes) you shouldn't be certain nothing is getting through. The Pax results in darker, more easily crumbled ABV that yields more fine particulate, particularly if you use the high temperature setting a lot. I'd bet a lot of money that your mouthpiece has fine particles in it just like ours.

Stating that the Pax is head and tails above the LB in every respect except conservation is your opinion and you should not present it as fact. Perhaps you haven't read the list I posted in the Pax vs LB comparison thread. Most of the points in that list are fact not opinion. For example, it is a fact that the LB costs about half the price of the Pax. It is a fact that the LB warms up in 3-5 seconds compared to 30-90 for the Pax. Etc.

I don't feel anything irritating my lungs so feel comfortable that i'm not inhaling particulates.

As for the fact thing, I swear I initially included in my post a disclaiimer that it was opinion but decided that anyone who is looking at subjective things like "best" or "stomps into ground" etc as "FACT" probably couldn't get onto the internet much less this site, so I removed the reminder that my opinion wasn't fact. My bad . . . And it is a fact that the LB requires you to carry around batteries (plural) that have to either have caps on them or be in some container until ready for opening container and use. It is a fact that some can, in the 3-5 seconds of the session, skillfully manage the temperature it is running at, while the (Pax/Solo/??) have settings that correspond to actual vaporizing temperatures. And the fact is that I believe the Pax or Solo stomp the LB. So, I guess we agree to disagree in this, the Pax thread, on Pax vs. (whatever).

Ploom really needs to resolve these issues. My unit has the temp light problem all the time. And I clean it really, really well. I don't bother to send it back, because I am 100% sure it's the design of the unit that is it's own downfall. It's not broken, it's designed poorly. Or should I say, not poorly, just over complicated.

Please, PLEASE PLOOM, make this device mechanically simpler!! It could still be so super awesome even by taking away some of the bling features. I don't need a retractable mouthpiece, leave it fixed, and let's have a power switch, a real one, on the outside of the unit. Let ME turn the oven on, not the mouthpiece. And another button for the temp on the OUTSIDE of the unit.

The retractable mouthpiece and the way the device switches on and off is the only downfall of this thing! I'd pay double just to have one that is less complicated.

I wouldnt pay double if it was the same device. Dont give them ideas like Apple. :hmm:

Edit: I like bling, do not take out the bling!

my tracking did not work either, glad you have a delivery notice...

I have the temp light issue too, and noticed when cleaning around the spring area, just opposite of the temp light, down inside the hole, outside of the airpath, there is a little area that looks like the contact point, that I make sure gets cleaned. It does seem to be the biggest design flaw of this unit, as the fix is only temporary. I still love my pax, and now I understand how she works, so I don't get mad about it. None of these portables are perfect yet, so it's hard to say if this one is better or worse for having this issue.

my tracking did not work either, but it's too hard for anyone to say if yours will arrive today or not. We just can't answer that for you. Guess it's time to stalk the mailman...

its out for delivery right now as we speak!
im just waiting for the mail man now!

im just not sure if they bring it to the door or leave in mailbox thing.

A question you may want to ask yourself is: "What time does the mail usually come?" This will probably be the approximate time your Pax comes. I hope you enjoy it when it does though...

My TV Ultra shipped in a big long brown box, and it was to be dropped off behind my gate by the man... of fuckin course I was waiting at the mailbox for him, though... He's never more than 15 minutes early/late from his usual delivery time. Then again, the housing situation here is a bit different, "country living" etc so if the package doesn't fit inside the "package slot" at the communal box, he'll drop it off behind the gate box where you can't really see it from the street, but is obvious from inside looking out.
