Discontinued Pax Vaporizer by Ploom

My little finger is my main Pax tool. My hands are like asbestos :D

Edit: I'm loving party mode. I find my Pax slips into sleep mode during warm up sometimes, and this just helps it keep chugging along.

So I think I have accidentally activated Party Mode a couple times by "fondling" my Zap. It's so fun to hold that I find myself twirling it in my hands repeatedly, which has caused the light to go color crazy. That's party mode, right? Does that mode do anything other than light up? I thought that was all there really was to party mode.

Yep, that's party mode. It prevents the unit from going into sleep mode. Handy for sharing (hence the name) or if you are like me, and want it on for the whole session.

I know it's hard to believe but I swear I didn't fake the pics where I loaded 0.78g (or maybe 0.68 I'll have to find it again)
Too much for me though, normally I'm 0.3-0.4
The only thing that concerns me about putting in a smaller load, is the heat has to go somewhere. My unit seems to get uncomfortably hot if it's not packed full, and I wonder if this would have an effect on electronics?

Ah yeah, okay. That makes sense. I have noticed that party mode won't stop unless you shut down and power back up. So the main benefit, other than the pretty lights themselves, is that the unit continues to heat regardless of motion?

Yep. I personally find the sleep mode to be a pain in the rear, as it tends to switch before my unit initially warms up, unless I keep it moving. So this has been handy dandy.

Same here, party mode is a life saver.

On another note, has anyone tried sandwiching some wax in the Pax? I have sandwiched some hash quite successfully many a time, and was wondering how some delicious sour diesel wax would fare. I think the ratio of wax to herb would have to be small, but I think it would work. Thoughts?

I agree in one way with what you guys say. I just had a session where I was doing something that required my hands, so I had to put the Pax down between hits. Every time, before I got back to it, it had gone into blue mode. Kind of a pain in the ass.

On the other hand, the other day, during a session, I set my Pax somewhere and then forgot about it. It wasn't until about 15 minutes later that I remembered ... and then I couldn't find it! lol. I was glad then for the automatic shutdown.

I guess the 30-second lag time just isn't quite enough, but the feature is better than not having it at all, I think.

I definitely like having both options, although I wish standby took a little longer to kick in.

I had that same problem once while out in the field. Sucked! just like said above, heat the unit with a hair dryer or heat gun. I honestly think the Pax would benefit from two design changes... a temp light button that isn't so close to somewhere that gets gummed up, and a less complicated/technical mouthpiece/on off system. I'd like a temp button on the outside of the unit, and I think making the unit like two halves that pull apart a bit to turn it on would be great. Take the complicated spring and clip mechanisim out of the picture and make it simplier. Oh, and I would like an oven lid that locks on somehow. Twice I've handed it to someone and it's been dropped and all my flower went all over the place. Which brings me to the last thing I would like... some knurling on the body! Some folks might like how sleek and smooth it is, but some of us are more function then form and I'd like some texture to that bad boy. Pax should make a tactical version!

Anyway, before I said that while I love the unit, I wouldn't recommend it to others becasue it's so finiky. I feel differently now that I've gone through about 2oz. of material with it. I've gotten to be able to clean the unit really quickly, and do so probably twice a week. I've had absolutely no complaints with my Pax! I now endorse it to anyone although I do tell them how dilligently you must clean.

I love my Pax!!

They do have one that has more texture/grip.

It's the one on the right. It has more grip with less slip.

I'm not sure if this one was an anomaly. Or if that's how they are making them now.

Yeah, I believe mine is the more textured, but some real knurling would be great.

I agree. The first time i dropped the one on the left could of definitely been prevented if i was using the one on the right. It just shot right out of my hand on to concrete. Oven lid, contents of the oven, and the screen just flew out everywhere.

I was attempting to close the mouthpiece when i slipped off it. It shot up and out like a bullet. Which caused the body to fly out of my hand.

I still find myself rubbing the sharp edges with my fingers. Hopefully all of my OCD rubbing will smooth things out.

Hello all,
I'm a new member but have been lurking for awhile. I have also been vaping for a while, first with e-cigs to kick the smoking habit, and now with portable vapes for the most part of the year. I started with the MFLB, and now own a PAX for about a month.

I've been reading this thread for some time now, and have gotten some very useful tips but I haven't yet seen mention of a couple of questions I have. I apologize if this has already been discussed and I missed it.

I've noticed that the screen in my PAX does not sit completly flat in the bottom of the oven. It appears slightly too long, causing it to curl up a bit at the ends. Should I trim it gently with a file until it sits flush to the bottom of the oven but still fitting snugly?

Also, and this is a bigger concern for me. Today I decided to give my mouthpiece a 15 min ISO soak and I noticed quite a few large pieces of ABV that made it's way up into the mouthpiece (and possibly into my lungs!) had come out in the ISO. I poured the ISO into a saucer to make it easier to see:

Have other PAX users experienced this? I have a feeling it might be related to the screen not sitting flush at the bottom of the oven.

I hope I can correct this or it is a deal breaker for me. I have emphysema and cannot take the chance of this getting into my lungs.

I'll be using my MFLB until I figure this out. Too bad, the PAX really fits my usage better than the MFLB.

Hopefully someone can help,

you don't want the screen to sit flat on the bottom, it would restrict the airflow. It is supposed to be slightly tilted in there, part of the design. If you make your screen smaller so it sits flat, you will probably not be able to pull a good hit, as it would just end up blocking the airpath. This has been discussed many times over, in this thread. :D Not sure what to tell you about the particles getting through the mouthpiece. I have not noticed an issue with this myself.

^^ The screen was made longer so it doesn't sit flat on the bottom. It has to be raised slightly on the end where the vapor path is. So the vapor has room to build up.

I think you are pulling to hard if you are getting particles in the mouthpiece. It has happened to me a few times. Especially towards the end of the oven when the contents become powdery/granular.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try to be mindfull of how hard I draw, especially after a stir. I tend to vape until the load is completly brown and very dry so maybe that is part of my problem too.

Don't trim the screen. It is designed to be slightly too long. Inserted properly, the end over the vapor path tube is slightly raised to allow the vapour to flow.

I just soaked my mouthpiece in ISO and I got pretty much the same kind of particulate that you show in your picture. I'm a bit surprised because the clearance when the screen is in place is so small I didn't think there was enough room to let some of those particles pass. I have noticed small particles in my mouthpiece before but I never put much thought into how they got there.

Your welcome. But when it gets to that brown coffee grind color especially after stirring. Try not to create a suction.

A slow steady draw IMO works best. When you pull too hard or too fast you can easily suck up some of those tasty coffee grinds. :puke:

My Pax should be arriving this week but I have one issue: Will I have to sign for the package? I have a busy schedule this week and I can't be sure I'll be home when it arrives. I don't want to have to go pick it up, I'd rather have it waiting for me at my house. I live out in the middle of the country, not heavily populated, if that makes a difference. Would they leave it at my door anyways? What could I do?

Also, when I go to finalize my order on Vapeworld I get an error when I press submit order. I cannot go through with my purchase until this is solved. All my info is entered correctly, and I've even tried different browsers; none seem to work.

Boss, I think that is a question you should ask the shipper of your Pax. If you ordered from Ploom, like I did, they just leave it at your doorstep. I was out of town the time that my Pax arrived and my neighbor picked up the box from my door and held it for me. Then as for your other question, I would just call vapeworld customer service and explain to them your difficulties. You might want to dump your cookies in your computer, re boot and try again. Sometimes that works for me.

Thanks for the reply. I've sent an email to vapeworld for both issues and have yet to receive a response.
