Colorado and Washington Voters Legalize Marijuana!

Ultimately, I would prefer we could all just have free access, as we do with any of the other seed bearing plants on this planet.

this statement is false. look up how monsanto keeps farmers from saving their seeds.

That statement is true if you grow your own on an individual scale, and I am not talking about Monsanto, I'm talking about what grows naturally on the planet. I am not :worms: on Monsanto that is another thread altogether.

California has this sort of quasi-legal arrangement where all consumers are supposed to be medical, which of course they are not. Some are. But the interesting thing in California is because the rules are quite vague about exactly who can do what (to some extent we have reproduced the Dutch model where the cannabis going out the front door in a bag with the consumer is legal but the bulk stuff coming in the back door is maybe, maybe not...) and exactly how it's supposed to work, considerable ferment has taken place and a lot of cool competition and innovation on the breeding / growing side, shifting solutions on the distribution end (delivery services) etc, plus a new generation of better edibles, new methods of consumption etc. The closed up government monopoly approach they seem to be going with in Washington may lose some of this creative ferment. But you know it's still a step in the right direction.

Gunk what do you mean all consumers are suppose to be medical in California?

What do these laws mean in terms of hashes, oils, waxes, edibles, and other non plant materials.

I mean ostensibly California hasn't legalized recreational cannabis, only 'medical marijuana', as recommended by a doctor. In practice the recreational consumers have just hitched a ride on the medical bandwagon.

It's much the same in CO; getting a medical recommendation means going to a doctor you've never seen before and giving him or her $60-150 in cash.

One thing that ought to be a bigger story than it is: fiber-type hemp. Basically another strain of the same plant that bears only traces of THC etc. This plant is wonderfully fast growing and could substitute for wood fiber in many situations like paper. It could help save our forests and thus aid in sequestering carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. The seeds are also good for animal feed and oil. It has the potential to give our economy a boost.

Yeah good luck getting the federal gov't to subsidize industrial hemp.

Isn't all forms of recreation medicinal?

I never heard of a doctor recommending medical alcohol or medical tobacco cigarettes.

The Hemp industry does seem to be overlooked in all of this.

It will all be very interesting too see.

It is a good time to be alive.

Actually there is quite a long history of 'medicinal' use of alcohol. My grandmother had alcohol prescribed by a doctor when she was very old. A dentist recommended alcohol to me at a period when I was clenching my teeth at night.

Cannabis has many good medicinal properties but I think it should be legal for all purposes, certainly for anyone over 21.

no, not all forms of recreation are medicinal.

I have heard of both, alcohol for those who have tried to quit cold turkey and are going through withdrawals, and for methanol intoxication. tobacco acts as a vaso-constrictor. I believe it was prescribed for low blood pressure, but would have to research it again.

Hopefully, the Feds will respect the will of the voters, but I'm not totally optimistic. :ugh:

We should start a contest.

How long until the feds start raiding?
Closest without going over wins, well, what would people be interested in? I have some Vic Firth grinders, but I doubt anyone would be fond of them, I have oven bags, but nobody would be interested in those either.

I guess a month after the second state has opened for business. They don't want to do it to quickly while the registers are still empty, and they don't want to do it until both states have a consistent supply of dispensaries to raid.

If you pay careful attention you will notice they say they won't go after recreational users (small quantity) which is already true to begin with for the most part. They already don't bother with small timers on a federal level, they want the big grows. They also made the same statement about California 4 years ago and we saw how that went, they didn't bust "patients" but they went after the grows and shops. They did however put pressure on state officials to go after small timers... lets hope this time is actually different, considering they are cracking down harder in Canada right now. This is going to be a bumpy ride.

I found that tobacco has been prescribed for ulcerative colitis, nicotine when used with mesalazine is a very effective treatment.

But tobacco can also be a preventative measure in this case for those who have high risk levels.

Also I would like to take a moment to talk about testing for drivers.
You cannot estimate a link between blood plasma concentrations and effects on driving ability, this was one of the conclusions of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's study.

This must be taken into account when writing the law.

http://www.ukcia.org/research/driving/01.php

"Inter-subject correlations between plasma concentrations of the drug and driving performance after every dose were essentially nil, partly due to the peculiar kinetics of THC. It enters the brain relatively rapidly, although with a perceptible delay relative to plasma concentrations. Once there, it remains even at a time when plasma concentrations approach or reach zero. As a result, performance may still be impaired at the time that plasma concentrations of the drug are near the detection limit. This is exactly what happened in the first driving study. Therefore an important practical implications of the study is that is not possible to conclude anything about a driver's impairment on the basis of his/her plasma concentrations of THC and THC-COOH determined in a single sample."
