Discontinued Purple-Days Vaporizer

Yeah, all you need to do is find one that has at least 1000ma or higher [1.0 A or higher] at 12VAC or 12VDC and it works perfectly. I was lucky enough to find one from my collection of old transformers.

also, if your PD came with a car adapter, you can use that the test the PD...if it works you know it was your wall adapter. If not, it's a bigger problem.

Whew, my new power adapter arrived from Jameco on Thursday. I plugged the PD in and within 30 minutes it was putting out sufficient heat to vaporize some LA Confidential. I have been so grateful to use my PD again I've been celebrating since I plugged it in.

I realize I need a backup on standby. So I'm going to check out the suggestions, thanks stickstones and placetime

Looks like purple days has run into the ground just in time for your units to start breaking and nobody to stand behind its flaws, Ignorant people , with no idea about how to run business. Shortly after my PD went "missing" after sending it in for repairs, they lost a whole shipment of PDs. Karma is a bitch. The simple ceramic design of the SSV is far superior and im glad I ended up with it instead of the over-designed PD

You know how expensive it can get out there. I will always love log vapes for their efficiency. I've saved so much that far exceeds the cost of this item... so I just consider that I came out ahead.

Others are taking this idea in better ways. I absolutely love the user-replaceable resistor capacity of the HI, now that makes it truly a product that can last as long as what was expected with the PD. Don't even have to solder the resistor into place, can just twist the leads securely in place so that eliminates solder from the airpath.

Tom and Pammy were some of the finest people I know and they served this community well with integrity and honor for many years. Their customer service was beyond reproach. And as far as caring and compassion, I know of no other company that would send out a free PD to my son when they found out what his life-long medical and mental condition was that he has to deal with on a day to day basis.

While they may not have been the greatest business people out there, they revived and gave a rebirth of sorts to one of the most successful vaporizer designs in the market that is still going strong as we speak.

But hell, I have no idea why I am even responding to anyone who calls the PD over-designed, for it is one of the most simplistic designs that have ever come to market, and is one of the main reasons for it's popularity.

A pain to open is what im talking about., Its just a nice piece of wood with crap internals, The power supply is cheap and so is the heat source. If they had a ounce of integrity and honor their company would have lasted more than 3 years. Just look at all the people on this forum that have had problems with the PD including you. They choose to ignore common customer service practices while they picked favorites for people with disabilities. Get off the dudes nuts already.

All I will say, as to not get myself in any trouble, is that your opinion and experience with Tom and Pammy is worlds apart from the vast majority of their customers. And that isn't a coincidence. I find it hard to believe they picked favorites as I was treated like family from the first e-mail. They are just genuine people.

Hey Rip. Wayyyy back in 2010, shred here had a problem with Tom because Tom refused to do business with him. It's amazing how long someone can hold a grudge. Check back on page #217 in this thread, post #5241 along with the subsequent posts to see where our friend here is coming from.

I'm curious though shred. You went round and round on this issue with Tom over 2 years ago. You then totally disappeared from this site since 2010. 2 years later, you return now to just complain about the same thing? Why? What purpose does it serve?

We had already done business. And when I sent my PD in to get fixed I never saw it again. They were nice people up to that point. After that it was if I never existed. So maybe if you whipe toms jizz out of your eyeballs you could read the post properly.

mod note: That's just disgusting. Warning given. It was stated several pages ago that this thread is remaining open to help those who have a PD, not to go after the company. We'll just give out warnings without statement for this type of violation in this thread from here on out.

What you failed to say here is that he refunded you your money. He didn't want to do business with you anymore.

Now I understand that your feelings were hurt over this, but this was over 2 years ago. Why on earth would you disappear for 2 years only to show up 2 years later ONLY to rehash your displeasure? Again I ask, what purpose does it serve, especially considering that they are no longer in business anymore and warning potential customers is no longer an issue.

The even bigger question is, why in the hell am I even responding to you?

Over..........and out, at least on this issue.

Gotcha lwien. I think shred's posts speak for their self. It is painfully obvious why he was treated as such. Some peoples life's must not be very exciting. :mental:

I would suggest trying one of the newer models. My PD died recently as well and upon further investigation I found that my resistor had cracked in half, I decided to retire the old girl. Originally I wanted a HI since you can replace the resistor yourself on that unit easily. This would basically make it last for a lifetime provided none of the other wiring became awry. If you have been following the HI thread you would already know there is about a 1 year wait if you want one. I needed a replacement now and the UD seemed like the best option. I am very glad I upgraded, ive only had my UD for a day but I can already say I like it better than the PD. It heats up faster(I got a twig model so its thinner), the stems hold more stuff, easier to change screens, nothing falls in the heat tube, the wood was turned better(please dont hate me Tom) and etc. The PD was nice but there are better options available now.

If your dead PD is not rattling and doesnt have excessive internal charring you maybe able to get some credit for it from Dave, hes looking for some PD's for a project hes doing. Unfortunately for me my unit was rattling quite a bit and I think that contributed to the resistor cracking in half.

The PDs were nice, though they didn't last that long unless you added more retaining rings. The ceramic-insulated Rockzaps were considerably better. If you come across one grab it. Now there are some cool new successors to the log concept I really have to try. A while back I wrote a review of the then-available three models of log vape: PD, Aromazap, and Woodeez (under the title of 'Log Vape Roundup'). None of them are available any more. Maybe I better refrain from reviewing any of the new models!

Just wrote this email to Pammy, and got an automated reply. Please let me know if anyone can help me replace the stems!

Hi Pammy,
I sadly read that you went out of business. I hope that everything is ok and that it's a positive move.
I have had my own moves in recent months, the most all-changing one the sudden shedding of almost all my possessions. I managed to salvage the purple days vaporizer (that'll show you what's important to us ;)), but the tubes were all lost.
Is there any way that you have tubes left for sale? I've tried thinking about other things I could use, but the description I read at http://www.vaporpedia.com/wiki/Purple-Days made it seem utterly impossible to find anything that good.]

I converted my PD to use 10mm straight borosilicate glass tubes. I cut a small piece of silicone tubing to fit over the PD's heat port, leaving a small amount (couple of mm) sticking above it. The glass tube can then be pushed into the silicone, and pushes up against the rim of the metal tube to create a perfect seal. I've found that this has improved the taste and performance of the PD.

Thanks again! Really appreciate the help.
