The HI

Wow Eligul, I still catch myself eyeballing this piece from time to time, she is a beauty! I am still enjoying how smooth the hits are from it. Crisp and clean, its a great piece to have in my collection!

Form and function, she just screams sophistication, the matching stem really creates a streamlined finished look. Im not sure anyone can lay their eyes on her and not comment on how unusual she looks.

Vapinghole - Glad to hear the HI was the hit of the night. Always fun to show it off. I'm keen to get to turning some wong stems too. A few more pieces of the puzzle falling into place.

u bwade wunner - Sounds like you are having fun experimenting. Nice to have the flexibility of using both the inside and the outside of the HI center tube. Handy that you can make your own nipples. I have been very lucky with not breaking any (other than while making them). I tend to leave them in the silicone sleeve most of the time for protection. Hope the PSU works out for you. Glad to hear you had a great time in California.

mvapes - How do you manage to keep making the first post of the page?

Thanks eLiguL. I'm glad you like it. That was a tough one to let go.

Thanks Alan.Good to see you around again.

mega post i know but I.m just trying to get closer to the end of the page so mvapes can start a new one:)

I am finding its a whole new experience using the Hi with water and a very good one at that. There are a few here that agree the Ion and the Hi compliment each other perfectly.the can is just the right size for a decent hit and the zero restriction of the Ion matrix perc suits the zero restriction of the hi.these two dance together.

Using the Hi with the Ion on around 12.3V or so, you draw for a few seconds maybe 1..2..3. nothing then whoosh temps build and the Hi just fills the glass with plooms, like ghosts or fireworks darting around in different directions.the patterns are pretty cool and add new mystique to the whole vape experience.

I still think that a bubbler with a mouthpiece that would allow you to see vapor forming directly is a must have down the track for me.the nearest Ive seen to that is the liquid piece boobs has .the mouthpiece is almost horizontal and allows you to sit back and watch the show in the can as it happens.the ion too seems to work much better than glass I've tried before and well worth the wait and expense.I m just not sure what that potential bubbler Im dreaming about would look like or if it could be made to look good at all.

I was using my crz stem in my Hi to begin with but have gone to the larger SS bowl you made for me ages back.youre stock wood mouthpieces mate with a 18mm/14mm reducer perfectlly.the stem slips all the way to the bottom of the reducer and then wedges into place interference fit but can be easily removed when needed.i just suck my material loose into the stem then skim the top off the bowl lightly pack and vape.It has no restriction to begin with.As you use the bamboo stir tool on the last two hits to stir its a little more restricted but not too noticeable.I take a big hit.I get maybe 6 good hits from the larger stem.

the only thing I need to watch for is on the first hit the material sometimes packs inside the heatport against the screen and lodges there, that is, if you dont hold the hi just above it,Once youve fired the bowl first, then you can lower Hi onto you're material, press and twist the hi on following hits to pack and break up the material, like a stirring effect.i then use the bamboo tool just to do a final stir before dumping

Just a question Did you ever make a hi with the screen flush with the opening of the heattube? and a longer legged resister sitting directly under? .No place for the material to lodge into.the versatility though being able to use internal and external stems makes things special. .the hi i shall say Lord Alan is an exceptional device and worthy of any JedHi.

Guees I'm kinda interested in how your e research went early on during testing with screen position in the Hi.couldn t find anything on the thread re this.

Its going to be a good weekend in Hitown.I m always up for more testing! and getting ready to distill my first batch of Essential oil.Lavender from the garden in a homemade copper and stainless 30 litre reflux still.the still has dual 1/2 inch coiled condensers.

Have fun Alan, next one is for You Lord Vapor, Jedhis and also not forgetting the many waiting to come onboard.Sooner than later we all wish

:peace: yo

Both the current FC bubblers give you and excellent view of the whole process. The Glassblowersdirect one, your eyes at a very good angle to watch the whole thing. The Leviathan... watching those bubbles stack thru the lattice is a true treat. My smSazo, is a true visual disappointment, but still vapes well.

I am restricted to my galaxy skyrocket, until I can get my laptop repaired. It has some interesting interpretations of what words it doesn't know... should be.

u bwade wunner - I really like using my filter flask setup because it puts the glass and water right in front of your face so you can see and control the vapor density. If the vapor starts getting to dark, I back off the HI just a bit to mix in some room air.
The distance of the heating element to the end of the HI center tube is roughly the same as with the TT. I wanted all the TT roasting tubes to also work in the HI. That is one of the unique features of the HI. It does allow the possibility of some material becoming lodged in the end of the HI center tube. I try never to push the HI center tube too far into the roasting tube. I also never load the roasting tube more than half full to allow some room for the HI center tube and for stirring.
Interested to hear how the distillation experiment goes.

The answer is in the first post. Just note that you will be put on a waiting list (no money involved, free to do so) and when it is your turn (sometime next year) you will get an e-mail. At that time if you are still interested you can put your order in or let Alan know you are no longer interested. It may be awhile (months) just know that Alan hasn't forgotten about you.

Contact me at alan@toasty-top.com to make arrangements.

PB88123 - Thanks for the answer.

UrutuBsb - Wish I didn't have to make people wait. Hoping to change that soon with a little luck.

Vapinghole - Thanks. Glad everyone has so much fun.

BDV - It is an easy test.

Jeppy - Sounds like the HION is working well.

HI Tom - Good to see you here.

Ok... I'm getting a couple of raw deals.

I just found out today, there's a secret MFLB handshake. Have I been taught? Noooooo....

Now, there's an "easy" test? WTH? 4 hours in a cramped, stuffy room. At a too small table/chair.

Then that damn round hole and square peg! Easy?

aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.......I forgot what a properly powered HI felt like! Finally got my VVPS and cord in and took it for a spin at 13, which would get to 13.1 somtimes, and got a huge hit with no loss in power. Taste was spent, however, so I will do the next stem at 12.7.

I'm a nipple man...whenever I use the gong i get overzealous and combust...maybe the VVPS can help me with that?

In my view, the VVPS can help if you'd rather not futz so much with getting the appropriate HI distance from your material. I had success with mine in that regard. But over the last couple months I've found it quite enjoyable to assert more control of each draw, customizing each hit, if you will. I don't view one method better than the other, I just enjoy total control. I've kept my VVPS steady at 12.0 volts for some time now, and I prefer lower-temp vaping. Therefore, I need to be very careful on my first draw. But now that I have it down, it's quite nice--sometimes I strike the tubeload perfectly and thoroughly in one draw, if I load it just right.

Cheers and have fun experimenting. Be careful, though. Alan has previously cautioned against using the HI above 12.4.
