I still clean mine less than once a week, I use the cheap $25 an eighth bud that hisses and crackles and have the old mouthpiece too... I just wish everyone had that kind of experience.

has anyone ever looked on Ebay for the PAX?? i just did and there are sellers on there asking for SOOOOOO much more that getting it directly from Ploom and they are not offering much more to justify those prices. there is one seller with a starting bid of $333.33 and a buy it now price of $444.44 there is only one listing that is actually the same price as Ploom. are people really buying PAX's for more than the manufacturer actually sells them for???

It's probably people who can't get them shipped to them overseas, I would guess, or just ignorant people who don't know better buying them for that much with out researching it. It's sad, but what can you do?

i asked two sellers the question of why they are selling so much higher than the manufacturer. i asked one seller who only overpriced by $15.00 and i asked the one selling for $444.44. the one that was overpriced by $15.00 actually got back to me and said

"The demand was overwhelming when the product was first introduced few months ago. The purple and blue colors have sold out from most retailers"

the guy selling for $444.44 did not get back to me... yet

Quick question, does anybody else ever have smoke rising when you take the oven lid off the pax? I'm guessing it's smoke because it smells so strongly, but my bud is never black just super dark brown. Any thoughts?

I try not to open my oven when its hot for that exact reason, the escaping vapor. I would rather make good use of that and pull it through the mouthpiece. I assume this only happens when you are done with a session and are gonna empty the load? If so, just take a few puffs once its turned off to cool the oven down below vaping temps.

Yeah it is mostly when I take it off at the end to empty the oven. Although there are a few instances where I open it to stir mid sesh and it happens. So there should be nothing to worry about? nothing wrong with my unit? haha and thank you for the tip @HSIHP!:)

Yeah your probably fine. Just make sure it cools down before you give it a stir if you want to keep all your good stuff in there

I have wisps of vapor that come up from the hot herb when I stir, but I also found my oven was smoking when it was empty. I traced the source of the smoke to a buildup of resin that had collected and hardened in the oven, right up next to the vapor path. I used a dental pick to clean it off and now my vapor tastes better and my Pax doesn't smoke.

After reading a bunch of posts, it seems as if the Pax is very prone to manufacturer problems upon order.

If I were to order one, would there be a big risk in my getting a faulty mouth piece or something?

Dr. Plutonious,
There would be a risk of that, yes. However, there is a 10-year warranty, so you could always get a replacement if you got a faulty Pax. Personally, after I had my Pax for about a week, the mouthpiece started to stick despite diligent cleaning. I chatted with someone from VapeWorld, where I had ordered it, and they sent me a new mouthpiece completely free of charge. Since then, I haven't had any problems with it.

FWIW, I love my Pax. It's my first vaporizer, and I am a happy convert from smoking. Friends of mine who own other vaporizers really like it too, because it's so sleek and easy to use, without need for glass tubes or whips or anything. I'm seriously thinking about buying another one to have as a backup.

I don't know how you got that impression. Most of the problems mentioned here can be traced directly back to cleaning issues. There have been some units with electronics failures. I can only think of one or two posts about mouthpieces that actually turned out to be faulty. Most mouthpiece problems have resulted from excess resin in the unit.

Furthermore, you can't draw reliable conclusions about the risk of getting a problem Pax from counting the complaints here. People with problems search the web for places that might have help, then they post about their trouble. That obviously results in a bias towards problems in the posts.

so the store selling the PAX on Ebay for $444.44 answered my inquiry on why it was so much, and here's what he said:

"I offer a premium 4pc aero space case grinder and a t-shirt. Also keep in mind I need to pay the high eBay and PayPal fees and also make a small profit. So if the price is too high for you please buy from elsewhere."

so a 4pc aero space case and a tshirt are worth a $194.44??? must be a really nice space case :)

I clean my pax once a week.

Which I don't mind doing at all.

I don't mind getting the heat / temp light issue. Cleaning around the spring area usually fixes it.

I don't even mind having the occasional stuck temp button. I even had the temp button not stuck at all and can feel it actually depress. But doesn't cycle through low, medium, or high. Until I put it on the charger for awhile. Then it magically starts working.

The real thing that's pissing me off. Is after cleaning trying to get that damn screen back in the right spot without it popping back out. Or not having it raised enough that I'm not getting the huge rips I like. I have wasted half an oven trying to get it to stay put in the right spot.

I think me, Vito, and a few others are the only ones having this issue.

I think Ploom should make a better screen.

Something that drops right it without having to fiddle with it.

The screen can be a little weird, since there is no satisfying click when you put it in. I generally just tap it down lightly, with the raised end over the air path. After that, I find if I pack a tight oven of herb, the screen seats a bit better.

I know i have given you this advice before Carlos and not to sound like a broken record but I find the best way to get the screen in place is to push it down somewhere between pretty forceful and almost nothing. Yes I know, very scientific but if you find the sweet spot you never forget it. ;)

Well that narrows it down.

I thought so too! I know I get my screen in place when I think I pushed too hard and too soft at the same time. Also, usually after the first oven after a cleaning the screen tends to find its place pretty well until the next cleaning. :p

HSIHP,
I've actually not taken the screen out yet. When I clean the air path, the pip cleaner pokes it up so that it is sitting vertically in its place. I just finish cleaning and then poke it back down. I figure I will have to take it out at some point, but I'm avoiding it until I do. It seems a little thin and fragile also.

It's not very fragile, it is a piece of metal after all but as you can see getting it back in place takes some practice. I know you just got yours Dude but I would clean your screen every 10 ovens or so to help with the air flow. I'm sure you could do it sooner but I know that after about 6 or 7 loads to me cleaning the screen makes a huge difference.

You should definitely take the screen out to clean the bottom part. SoOOO much resin builds up beneath the screen.
