The CVault - Climate Controlled Storage

use one of these, medium i think, not so much to keep the bud fresh but to keep the fragrance from leaking out of my backpack. people get killed for less than a couple grams of weed around here

My medium just arrived. First impressions are it looks really well made and it feels solidly built. Not quite beat it up with a hammer tough (well, it'd take a few swings I bet..), but much more resilient than a mason jar. The clasps have the same feel of quality to them also. After following the simple included directions of installing the Humidipak in the sleeve, it's all ready to roll. My sniffer couldn't detect anything from the unit, but I washed it out by hand just to be safe. I'll report back with usage results once I get a chance to break her in.

OK, totally impressed with this thing. I've used it exclusively since I got it, and I don't foresee me using anything but CVaults for storage anytime soon. It is really that good.

The Humidipak is what really sets this apart from other storage methods in my mind. Having your herb stored in a damn near ideal environment is a comforting feeling. I've actually managed to breathe some life back into some buds that were a bit too dry with the CVault. I feel like the small maintenance cost of Humidipaks is more than worth it, these things are great guys!

Just wanted to mention that 1 of my 2 CVault's latches recently broke off. I've had them for 9 months, open each about once per day. and handle them with reasonable care. The 2 rivets are quite small. A little bit disappointing. However, I am planning on buying a replacement container locally and cheaply enough though without the specialized insert for the Hunidipak on the lid. After all, freshstor simply have a modified lid design of a standard mass-produced container (such as this by Onyx). Anyway, I've asked a friend where she bought hers locally and I look forward to getting my second CVault back in operation.

Sorry to hear that, chimpybits. Have you tried contacting Freshstor? I don't know what the warranty is but Gary is a good guy. Worth a shot.

I've been continuing the experiment from the first post and the bud is still in incredibly good condition. It will be a year next month. I'm sure there has been some degradation after that long but it still looks good, smells good, the moisture level is perfect and, most importantly it still vapes great. Surprisingly the humidipak is still going strong too, it's not quite as liquid as the new ones I just got from Planetvape, but no hard either. Impressed.

The warranty is 30 days. I just bought an Onyx brand container, switched the lids and have it working again.

I stored ~1 ounce of blue dream in my Medium Cvault many months ago and is now down to maybe an 8th.

Because I know how it smelled going in (like blue dream should, sweet) I know for sure the bud has gone bad. I cannot see mold, but it has the telltale "mildewy" smell with not even a little tiny hint of sweetness. Additionally, if I vape some of it I get a odd scratchy sensation in my throat that I never get using the Cloud normally.

If the herb is retaining extra moisture in the Cvault, it makes sense that there could be a mold issue for long long term storage. Although other moisture solutions like a orange peel would still be much worse.

So I don't entirely blame the cvault, but my herb definitely did go bad stored in one. I'd imagine if the container had been in my fridge the whole time, and I more regularly popped the lid and let it breathe, it might still be okay like yours.

Don't think I'll be trying to stockpile a private reserve anymore after this mold incident.

Yikes, that sucks! This was with a 62% Humidipak? Maybe there was too much moisture in the bud for the single pak to deal with.

I've been keeping herb in glass jars with the 62 paks in addition to the Cvaults and haven't had any problems. I always wondered if a slightly lower percentage would be better, especially for vaping.

Not only is it a 62, but it's the original 62 pack the cvault came with (11 months ago). Instructions said to remove when the pack hardened, but it still feels the same as when I got it :\

I wonder if the 62% paks don't harden up like the 69% cigar paks when they're losing efficiency. Perhaps if there's excess moisture in the environment they won't. IME the 69s dry out completely and solidify. I heard that Boveda (the new name of the company that makes the Humidipak) had some trouble formulating the 62s.

I changed my first humidipak after 3 or 4 months just because.... I let the pack dry out in the open and it took several days in the open before it finally "hardened up". I've had my current pack going since then and it's still squishy. So it appears that either they last a lot longer than thought, or maybe they stop working before they get hard?

My 62s have been drying out on a fairly consistent basis, they last about 6 months, but I do run a dehumidifier in my home. Since I keep an annual harvest in vacuum, the material cycling through my c-vault, until recently , has been very uniform. This material was not cut early and was cured properly so I feel it was a good test.

Can someone alter time, speed up the harvest, or teleport me off this rock?

Thanks :peace:

I talked to the guy who created the CVault at the Kush Expo. He told me that some of his packs last for more then a year inside his CVaults. As long as they are squishy, they are still working. Once it starts to crystallize or get hard it is spent.

I am now up to 6 C-Vaults. 1XL, 1L, 2M, 1S. I hold my various strains in the various sizes depending on how often I use them. The XL size is HUGE... it could hold a few ounces I think.

Was your herb bone dry or somewhat dry?

Like someone else posted, there may have been a little more moisture in the herb that was slowly released and allowed the environment to go over the 62% and allowed a little mold to grow being that you were storing so much in one small spot. I don't know but maybe a better thing to do is use multiple containers that can hold 1/8 and use the packs that way or store the ounce in a larger container so everything can breathe easier. If it were bone dry the boveda would keep everything within that 62% range without any problem as the only moisture it deals with, is what it is releasing with no outside influences, at least too much.

I thought I would share some photos of my CVault setup. I currently have one small, two medium, two large, and one extra large size containers. I can't recommend these enough. They seem to be able to keep my flowers at the perfect moisture content in order to vaporize quite efficiently. I feel like the flowers I store in my CVaults produce thicker vapor than my other storage options.

The last two pictures are the Norwegian Kush. A fantastic strain that helps me with the majority of my medical needs.

So what would be the advantage of owning these as opposed to just dropping a pack into a canning jar? I get that they look great, and are stronger...but is there something I am missing?

They keep the light out and can be dropped ... but I have about 25 jars usually (as I like to keep them in 5-8g jars for rationing as well as I usually have at least 10 strains ... so for the small ones at $20 a piece that's $500 in jars!) ... The mason jars are cheaper and throw in the $1-$2 pack. (at least that's my take ... the only unfortunate thing is the packs are too big for the 125mL jar lids ... I'm going to have to start looking for "slightly" wider jars somewhere and then can use a little two-sided tape to just stick a packet to the underside of the lid)

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
What about threading the edge of the pack on two sides and suspending on an angle in the jar instead of using tape ? It's how I used to re-hydrate with a citrous rind way back when ;)

So, my second of 2 CVaults broke a few weeks ago - same issue with the latch breaking off. Again, I've been careful handling the latches, normal use, etc. I did contact Gary and he was helpful. He gave me a special discount for 2 new small CVaults.

He surmised a tentative opinion that the the small CVaults may be more prone to this issue. (Unfortunate as the small size is ample for my needs). He also suggested that if it seems that it is taking too much force to close the latches then one can slightly bend the top of each latch (i.e. the part of the latch that presses on the lid to achieve a different angle thereby lessening the torque needed). I've noticed that the combination of Onyx container and Freshstor lid works fine, but does require quite a bit more force in latching.

Anyway, I'm pleased and impressed with Freshstor's response given that they were out of warranty (breaking after 10 and 11 months). Once I feel a little more flush, I'll place the order and hope the new ones fare better. I do prefer these to mason jars.

Thought I'd chime in.

I have some mango kush that smells very sweet and strong. Seemed perfectly cured, not brittle but not too soft either.
I had it in a regular jar for a few days and I opened it every day just to get a nice whiff. During the first few days I noticed nothing change in smell. Just cracking the lid was enough to smell it from several feet away instantly ( my friend and I tested it a lot because it was so surprising).

Well around 2 days ago I got in some CVault mediums. I had a bit more erb than would fit in the cv medium, so I also left some in a regular plastic jar.

Tonight my friend and I decided to check things again and I was really sad to instantly notice around 70-80% of the sweet smell was gone from the mango kush. Had to get my nose close to the cvault to smell much, and definitely no burst of flavor. Smelled more like regular weed than what it smelled like 2 days ago.

Then we checked the little plastic jar and it smelled much better. We both agreed.

We then smelled the humidipack from the CV and one side smelled very strongly of mangos ( the side that was down towards the bud).

What's going on? Seems to me that these Humidipacks absorb good smells from weed. I am pretty disappointed right now because I bought a few of these.

I just removed the humidipack and resealed. Maybe it got too moist like above? Seems a bit fast. I will report back if the smell comes back as things dry.

Btw I am on a tolerance break and my sense of smell is very sharp as a result.
