Jucing raw cannabis? Scam or not?

I've recently come across these videos and articles explaining the health benefits of juicing raw cannabis instead of smoking it. It seems plausible but I need to see more on it.

Lecture:

Dr. William Coutney believes that juicing raw cannabis leaves is a dietary essential and can benefit many illnesses. Although it is better used as a preventative, instead of taking in 3mg through smoking, you take in 600mg but without the phychoactivity. In the second video he explains the science of how it works. I wonder if this is the real deal but I haven't found any articles from other parties yet on the subject. Sorry if this has been posted but searching didn't bring anything up. This could be the next wonderdrug if it loses the smoker/stoner perception, and is seen as a usefull vegetable.

Lost in Thought
I think that most anything with chlorophyll in it is going to be 'good for you'. While I didnt watch the videos, I can say that IF something like this becomes 'mainstream' then chances are it will be in the 'hippie food' market (per se) similar to how wheatgrass and other greens are. (In other words - dont expect a stamp of approval from the FDA)

Although, cannabis may contain more 'goodies' for different reasons than other greens that are juiced.

'snip':

------------------------------------------------------------------
Raw bud has a high concentration of cannabinoids and is excellent for consumption. When consumed, raw marijuana generally does not make a person high. The main psychoactive compound in dried, aged cannabis is delta-9 THC, which is absent in the raw, fresh leaf. However, the other compounds, such as the terpenes, may have an effect on mood or energy levels. Raw leaf contains mainly THC acid (not THC) unless you are using a strain that is much higher in CBD. In that case, you will be getting some CBD from the leaf. Leaves are picked from a plant that is about three months of age. Buds should be at the state where the trichomes are fully present but not yet amber (i.e. cloudy).

Some of the benefits of raw cannabis include:

Immune modulating ----------- Anti-diabetic
Anti-inflammatory ------------- Neuroprotective
Antioxidant --------------------- Antispasmodic
Anti-tumor/anti-cancer ------- Anti-anxiety
Bone stimulation -------------- Antibacterial
Pain-relieving

What are the "active" ingredients in raw cannabis if there is no delta-9 THC?

Terpenes ---------------------- Cannabigerol (CBG)
Flavonoids -------------------- Cannabidivarin (CBDV)
Phytocannabinoids ---------- Cannabichromene (CBC)
Cannabinol (CBN) ----------- CBD Acid
Cannabidiol (CBD) ---------- THC Acid
Cannabigerol (CBG)

There are more than 525 molecules found in raw cannabis, some with synergistic effects. According to Dr. Courtney it takes about 4-8 weeks before full clinical benefit is reached. It takes that long to fully saturate the fat tissue with phyto-cannabinoids. Phyto-cannabinoids are fat molecules that are stored in the adipose or fat tissue similar to the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. It appears that a wheat grass juicer is probably the best method of breaking up the cannabis plant cells. Mix with a minimal amount of organic fruit or vegetable juice -- just enough to cut the bitter taste of the raw cannabis. Choose lower sugar juices to minimize your ingestion of simple sugars. Store leaves in a green bag in the refrigerator; do not rinse until immediately before using. Dr. Courtney recommends soaking leaves in water for five minutes before juicing.

Use organic cannabis that does not have any pesticides applied at any point in its life cycle. Dr. Courtney recommends using ten large fan leaves per day in juice, salsa, pesto, salad, etc. If you have access to fresh bud, he recommends one bud/day.

Cannabinoids and THCA are cleared rapidly from the blood, so frequent consumption of a small amount of juice is ideal. Split the juice into five parts for five divided doses per day.

Of course not and I will be juicing all my leaves instead of making hash this time. But before I go and spread this info I wanted to get a discussion going to see other views or things I may not know. Also all the info I could find is from this same doctor it seems, I want to see some peer reviewed data. Hopefully this is the future of cannabis because it needs to be seen as a vegetable not a drug, which is what I always thought. :peace:

I'd love to have a perpetual grow to attempt this.... but life just doesn't play fairly and find it would be pointless to attempt it if I couldn't make a routine out of using it because I've read its the 'build up' of using that shows its benefits.

Maybe someday...... but for now, I make hash.

Yeah definitely. The thing is that I don't think it is studied or talked about much because people haven't really tried it or consciously think about it. We just think of vaping the flowers and that's it, but there is more to the plant, almost like a vegetable (as you said).. I hate the word "drug" for that very reason, negatives negatives negatives....of course we all know it's true amazingness, but it's hard to change others views when the gov has it as schedule 1 "drug." and constantly gives it a bad rep...

If I could, I would do a juicing experiment and implement it maybe 3 times / week and make a journal of any daily changes or things that change if at all. the best way is to experiment!

Yeah i really want to try this unfortunately to get the amount material to juice daily at recommended doses you would need to grow around 42 plants a year. Sadly not feasible for me

it is a good argument for having larger grows though. If people are trying to raise it a vegetable for daily consumption, rather than just to cultivate the flowers, it could be a game changer in some of the legalities and limitations being placed on semi-legal grows. I'm just ready for it to stop being a crime already.

I've gone thru bouts of juicing over the last few years. I won't juice the roots however. The root is the plant's "intake filter" and is usually a trap for heavy metals and chemicals that the plant won't uptake. There are also 2 chemical alkaloids found in the roots which are mildly toxic in very large amounts if eaten: (Cannabisativine and Isocannabisativine). Best to clip off the root ball and not include it in your juice (many people add it to leaf and bud for juicing thinking there is some goodies in there).

Unfortunately many people get legally "locked out" from obtaining what they need due to the large amounts of cannabis needed for juicing.... Even worse is that it's hard to tell what juicing can and cannot do since most people have no access to fresh, uncured cannabis.

Very true! Great find Puffers. Ever try Darcy's Hemp-Eaze? It does work pretty well. She gave me a few tubs about a year and a half ago but I'm out.

I haven't tried it but I have seen it and heard really good things about it. I have a bunch of root balls in my garage I have been meaning to turn into a balm for the last cpl months. I also take my stems grind em up and put them into iso for a topical that works pretty well for muscular pain but doesn't seem to penetrate well enough for skeletal or joint pain.

Well, can't hurt to try it out - worst case you get some fungi or mold or mites too, best case it does something you find positive. Happy (drinking?/sort of eating?/whatyoudo) with it.

I run leaves through my champion juicer sometimes when I make juice, and have enough leaf to work with. I don't find anything negative about it, it feels good to my body as I drink it, energizing.

jambandphan03,
Wouldn't mind a daily canna-juice if I had this in my backyard

I spent close to three years on the ground in Afganistan and can attest to the fact there is some AMAZING weed being grown in the "A"!
Best job I ever had...get a good buzz on then go play with machine guns, thanks Uncle Sam!
Please note the above statement is theory only. U.S. service men and women would never involve themselves in such things.

Shipdit is right, you need access to poundage to make this work. Ironically, its probably really, really friggin good for you. I drink wheat grass juice, which is one of the most nutritious substances on earth. Its virtually identical to hemoglobin, just potassium based instead of iron, however I digress . . .

Oh, btw, it only cost $1 Million/soldier to fund that little party over there . . . :uhoh:

There just isn't anything bad about this plant other than the hype that we were force fed for the last 80 years and all the damage prohibition has caused. All it takes is a google search and a few hours of reading to figure this out. We are dealing with a non-toxic plant that has about as many uses as we can imagine, our bodies have receptors for it's canabanoids, it helps the body heal itself, fast, and we are being prevented from using it to it's full potential. I already know it's going to change, the cat is out of the bag, the wave is in motion.

Laws are always quite a bit behind society ... perhaps they'll finally catch up in regards to cannabis.
