Discontinued A Hot Pod

OhTheAgony

here for the chicks
They look awesome Hazy, & I can only applaud the choice for a thicker glass.

The hemp oil just adds to the general good vibe I get from this

What a guy!
Sweet! Look at them, like Pod Soldiers in a row.

Hemp oil, makes the pods look good, is natural, goes with the theme. I like it. Also yay for thicker glass.

Hot Pod v2

I'm pleased to present version 2! The new version features a redesigned heat port. As much as I liked some of the advantages of the push-in silicone connection, I believe the new design is more versatile and robust. The stem is no longer inserted into silicone, instead it just drops into the hole in the top. It's a slightly loose fit. The rim of the stem forms a seal against the silicone ring:

This design allows larger stems to be used. It is designed for 12mm OD glass stems, with an ID of 10mm, 9mm, or 8mm. The 10mm ID feels very unrestricted. I've ordered some 8mm ID tubing which should feel similar to my original stems, except that the glass is thicker. The idea is to use the different size stems depending on what kind of dosage I want.

Here's a shot giving some idea of relative sizes. The PD doesn't get any use these days :p

The new version is easier to assemble and uses about a quarter of the amount of silicone compared to the original.

EDIT: I think the new version looks nicer too :)

Very nice stuff - exciting - is there a long list for a Pod like the HI?

mvapes, this first batch is for the beta testers, so there isn't a list yet. The Hot Pod won't be available to the general public until the testers have had a chance to check them out thoroughly. Once production starts things should move along quickly, so I'm hoping to avoid long waiting lists.

beautiful. Love the size.
Yes!
Didn't realize they would be this small. My UD is the larger, standard size, and I've been eyeing some of the smaller units. Psyched this covers that desire!
Thanks for the progress reports Hazy and you're adjusting/innovating as you progress is very encouraging and much appreciated out here!
:whoa: whoooaaaa!!!! those look amazing!!!!! tell your glass guy to hurry up. i want one now ASAP!!!! :D

Ditto, please.

Well I guess I should let you all know that the glass has arrived :) I wasn't going to say anything just yet but those posts from bOObs and Adobewan have made me feel guilty. I'm basically ready to go and have assembled two pods for testing. However, my concern at the moment is with cutting of the glass stems and the silicone rings that go inside the pods. Although they are serviceable, I'm not happy with the level of precision I'm currently getting, so I will be trying some new techniques this weekend. Again I'm grateful to Alan for giving me some ideas about this.

Adobewan, the pods are 100mm high and about 45mm at their widest point. That's about 4" x 1¾" in imperial measurements. They're not the smallest of the current log vapes but they are in that ballpark, and they do seem to fit nicely in the hand.

Coolness Hazy, thanks for the details, I'm psyched!
Hope the new techniques are a success. Hope your next post is, "Hey guys, good news, Alan's techniques took the Pod to a place I never dreamed. They worked so well I may have to turn DOWN the awesomeness!!"
Fingers and chest hairs crossed!

Thanks Adobewan for your enthusiasm, although you've set the bar quite high :o I did have success with Alan's techniques but in my enthusiasm I forgot to use water on the cutting surface resulting in prematurely wearing out my file  I won't be able to get another file in the near future and I will be away from home for about two weeks starting from the end of next week. I've got the silicone rings done, and the glass for the heater tube should be no problem, so the pods themselves are ready to roll. However, I haven't got any stems made using the new technique :(

I have found a good source for male GG joints on 12mm tubing (8.8mm ID), so I will be able to make some nice stems out of them once I've got the new glass cutting techniques into production. I've only got a few samples of these at the moment however, and will need to place a larger order when I return home.

So... I will let you guys decide what you'd like to do. You can either wait until I get back and see what kind of stems I can come up with next, or I can send you a pod now with a basic high flow direct draw stem, which is just a 12mm glass tube with a 10mm internal diameter. These stems work, but they do not have the kind of finish that I'm looking for. The ends are smooth but uneven. Personally I find these stems too open for the amount of herb that I use. They are more suited to large loads. I can also make some short stems from the same glass tubing with a small section of 18mm OD silicone tubing that should be able to fit into an 18mm female GG joint, but you might need to carve it yourself to make it fit nicely. However I've only got enough silicone for about five of these.

Some of you may already have some kind of stems that will fit the pod, as long as the outside diameter doesn't exceed about 12.3mm. You can also contact Cookie who is happy to make stems that will fit, but this will cost extra, and you would need to ask him how much they will be.

I'm sorry things haven't gone entirely as planned and I must admit most of the delays are of my own making. Once again I'd like to thank you all for your your patience and continued interest :)

Any of you who have signed up for beta testing can PM me if you would like to get your pod early, but be aware that due to postage costs I can't send out a second package when the new stems become available.

Don't sweat the delays, hazy...remember the Cloud! And that was a team of guys. Like NewVape said...just get it right! I, for one, want to be able to hook this up to my bubbler via 18mm or 14mm (I have an adapter). The nice thing about my HI nipple stem is it acts as a direct draw stem and it fits in my 14mm adapter for the bubbler. I'll bet yours will work similarly, as it is the silicone sleeve that keeps the stem from falling straight through the 14mm adapter.

What a guy!
No worries here friend. I want one that you think is ready to go. No sense in testing an unfinished one. I'm sure that there will be further developments once we get our dirty mits on them anyway. I'm already thinking about connectors and glass.... :p

Not gonna lie, the first pic I saw of this vape really put me off... but the one in hand farther up put it in a new perspective... will definitely be watching this vape and possibly getting one down the line. I was in the market for a log vape anyways.

Quetzalcoatl, you've really got me curious. What was it you didn't like? I'm always looking for ways to improve :)

I was curious too! The first pic was what grabbed me about the Pod. The GoG sealed the deal, but this is gonna be one of the coolest looking items in my studio full of cool looking items!

I had the opposite reaction when I first saw this vape. My VAS gene went into to hyperdive. :o

For some reason, my mind visualized it as a little bigger and chubbier, generally unwieldy, dangerous in the wrong (or arthritic) hands. Seeing it in a hand gave it perspective, I looked at my mouse in my hand and was able to make an approximation of size... doesn't seem as big in my mind anymore :)

Also, the oval body shape of it. My mind wants to make it a cylinder, not an oval  Still, I think it adds uniqueness, although with all the holes in it I don't think there's much room for more :)

Thanks Stu, I really love the look of these things. I keep getting up from my desk to go over to the window sill so that I can play around with them

Quetzalcoatl, as you can see they aren't that big, and they weigh about as much as a phone. I think the shape actually enhances my grip on them. Hold your hand half closed and have a look at the shape it makes...

I chose this shape because I thought it looked organic and "poddy" (if that makes any sense). I have considered making a completely cylindrical version, as I can understand how that would appeal to some people, so I can certainly see where you're coming from. I could offer a slim, minimalist version as well as a fatter one. For the time being I want to stick with a single design so that I don't confuse my woodturner! It has already taken a number of prototypes just to get to this stage.

Shape seems very natural as you say Hazy, your hand takes that shape when relaxed, which is likely what it will be when using the Pod.
Can't wait!
