Allison is definitely awesome! I can only say that my experience models yours in the amount of consideration, care, and honesty that Allison and Ray showed. That alone is enough to encourage me to do more business with them in the future, but the great quality glass with the great pricing helps too. :cool:

@BigDogJunction
If Ray didn't have a very large project, he's starting on (sorry, don't know if its privileged info or not)... I'd be hitting them up about the FC bubbler.

BigDaddyVapor,

What a guy!
Well BDV you convinced me to check them out. I shot Allison an email and got a prompt reply. I know they're busy but I'm hoping that when Ray has time I can have him make something really special for me. :evil:

BigDaddyVapor

@BigDogJunction
You'll more than likely get a chance to speak with her as well. She's even nicer on the phone. She really wants to get to know you. I think part of it is (besides making new friends)... she wants to make sure, you get what you think you're looking for, what you think you want and ultimately, getting exactly what you need and it end up being exactly what you wanted and were looking for.

I didn't go there looking for a beaker and an inline perc. I just wanted a tube, I was willing to spend up to $150 on. Could have bought a LOT of name brand HQ tubes, for $150. But, I had to think about the vapor aspect... bigger you get, the less efficient it is, imo.

Then I remember everyone talking about the customer service of SSFG, that's why I ended up there. During my browsing, I started to get really confused, because there were a lot of different options, single, multiples... it was too late and I just wanted to go to bed. So I fired off an email, thinking I'd get a response later in the day, or the next. Nope... soon as she walked into that office, bam, bam, bam.... 3 emails exchanged and phone numbers. Called her up and stayed up an extra 1/2 hour nailing down exactly what I wanted.

Monday, is going to be a very good day. I hope he can get to your piece, pronto.

@BigDogJunction
So talked to Allison again today. I swear... we talk about everything BUT glass. I'd say I made a new friend. Slight delay on my order, but a great reason and a testament to how much they care about their customers. Ray and her searched thru their entire inventory for a 10" travel beaker and couldn't find one. So, Ray made me a new beaker today, 10". I could understand if I ordered a $500 beaker or something. But the 8" - 10" inches, in my opinion, just meant you'll get something between 8" - 10", whatever we grab. Nope... Ray's blowing a new piece. So, to be exact... I'm getting 3 brand new pieces of glass (beaker, downstem and mini perc), blown specifically for me (I changed some dimensions) for $150. I swear, I'm going to wake up and this is going to be a dream. Allison keeps apologizing for the delay (its been like 2 days)... and I just want to reach thru the phone and hug them both.

I have had my 1986 Kramer Baretta since 1986. It won't ever be sold (I've been offered "whatever you want" for it, twice). In fact, I told everyone to @#$% off, when I die... its getting buried with me. Something tells me that SSFG glass, is making the trip with us. LOL.

This isn't my axe... but, its the exact same model, though the finish looks white... its actually kind of a light creme color.

@BigDogJunction
I thought the travel beakers/tubes didn't rate having the SSFG logo on them? Allison told me, she had them hold it up today before she mailed it and had them do the sand-blasted logo. I don't see one in the sales picture (and unlike many people, I like 'em. well, except if its a big giant...). I thought that was cool of her.

BigDaddyVapor,

BigDaddyVapor

@BigDogJunction
Well, have I got a surprise for you all. I didn't want to say anything, because I wasn't sure how Allison would feel about it, but I didn't just get a custom SSFG 3 pc vapor rig.

:doh:

No, I got a SSFG 3 pc vapor rig AND a Gridded Inline Bubbler. For the life of me, I can't figure out why she felt a rush to get things out to me. Its obvious, her and I have a connection (not like THAT)... we just click, when talking. But, really... we were talking about a $150 order (originally). So I don't know if she felt guilty for what amounted to two days of delay, and STILL getting my my order in LESS THAN A WEEK... but she offered to make me a deal on the Gridded Inline. An offer I couldn't resist. An offer, I'm not going to repeat, because I think she went way above and beyond. I hate to even say this, is sounds so stupid... but I almost cried when I opened the box and saw everything she had done for ME in a week (OK, I'm lying. I did cry and have a couple times since. Such big-hearted people!). Every call, email just overflowing with this larger than life, loving personality. Ray, is a VERY lucky man. I hope he realizes that and thanks whatever Higher Power, he might believe in... every. single. day.

So... pics, or review first? Uhm... PICS!

Its a little front heavy. But with water in it... it doesn't tip. Plus... its @#$%ing 10" tall and holds up a inline perc, w/ an 18mm female joint. BAHAHAHA! This thing clears like a jet engine!
20120728_153918.jpg

Can't see it here, but the downstem is off-center. But that's the nature of hand-blown glass. There are going to always be slight imperfections. (like unlevel fritted percs :D)

Oh, a very sexy piece... 14mm female joint.

Impressions after use

SSFG 10" Travel Beaker w/ Showerhead Downstem & Mini Inline AC/Perc

I have quite the dilemma for a daily driver. The Saxo... eh... if I want to send a hearty @#$% you, to anyone that says a MFLB can't milk, I have a rapid response. I might take it out for those nights I want to hit myself in the head with a truck.

So its down to a 3pc SSFG rig, or an EIGHTEEN HOLE SSFG inline bubbler. I think its going to depend on my mood. I've had the pleasure of vaping a trench in the 3pc rig and it vapes quite nice. I've really taking a liking to inlines, after I figured out water levels and pulls on them. They are truly a pleasure to vape with and I just love the pull and WONDERFUL feedback. Now I know why so many blowers and people like them. The 3 pc is designed well, as a unit. Everything is meant for a little leanback. Even the inline. It makes for a very comfortable position for draws... which I think, when you're new to the game... you don't really realize how important it is. I want to be in a relaxed position... head, neck and angle I'm holding a piece to be comfortable. That's one thing the Saxo doesn't score points on, unless you have hands like Michael Jordan. But, this is a nice piece to hold, from a couple of angles (beaker and neck) You get excellent visual feedback from the top of the bulbous head of the crystal clear, thick glass on the inline and following it up the tube, to your mouth.

Because of its vapor volume, it delivers a nice long, tasty draw and with the 18mm female joint, clears in a rush! >>WHOOOSH>>

Was worried before I got it, that asking for the 18mm would lead to a weight issue (which it balances well enough for me) and I was right to some degree. But the trade-off, because it STILL sits flat without having to even pay attention to it... but for the air-flow, it was PERFECT.

The glass is nice and thick (4mm on the travel beakers, btw. but its for a reason - they can repair it easier, if breakage... AND it doesn't NEED to be 5mm at this size). It IS thick and solid. Wonderful craftsmanship, with the fit. Everything is air/water tight. Pieces hold snug, once seated... no twist on the inline, when inserting/withdrawing whip.

Now the Gridded Inline Bubbler

Unfortunately, I got to try a single pull off this. I've been working with a cracked 14mm male whip adapter. It finally broke. I already @#$%ing SuperGlue'd it and I don't wanna hear @#$% about health hazards.... I HAVE to use this piece tonight. One hit was just a tease, off an awesome piece. I'll order a new adapter tonight, probably.

The inline. I can't get over... how truly awesome this thing hits... again, built for leanback. And for a piece its size, you can still give it a strong, hard pull... and no wet lips. Excellent feedback, both on the pull and visually, thru again... another bulbous air chamber top. Same crystal clear, thick glass. I believe however, this one is blown by Dave M. Still loyal in looks/style to SSFG pieces and even though its unlabeled... is worthy of the rep SSFG has rightfully earned. As its a smaller piece, in stature and volume... the 14mm female slide, is more than enough. I've got a hookup for the whip adpaters, I'll just have to suck it up and spend a few bucks.

Both inlines fire exceptionally well and nice dispersion on the bubbles. The Bubbler though, is a blast to watch in a mirror as the bubbles dance around EIGHTEEN HOLES of perc'ing bliss. Its got a larger opening for the mouthpiece, than I imaged, but even this... works well, with the feedback the piece gives you.

I think feedback of a piece is very important. I don't want to get through that massive milk, which I've proven I can pull off with a tiny, little, MFLB ;), to find out... it was too much. Perfecting it on that Saxo, trust me... took a LOT of trenches and for two nights, I haven't been medicated... I've been stoned out of my @#$%ing mind. I'd rather not do that. Both these SSFG pieces provide a wonderful vapor (and I would imagine, smoking) experience. Its wonderful holding a quality piece of glass in your hand and enjoying the thought and workmanship that went into delivering that medication, which helps me get thru every single day.

Thank you Ray. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, Allison. You have made a new friend and a very loyal customer. Its no wonder, to this day... I still haven't read a bad word about their company. They are a huge credit and wonderful ambassadors for this industry.

Videos coming late tonight or early in the morning.

@BigDogJunction
EVOLVING IMPRESSIONS

I'm definitely taking a liking to the 3pc. That extra perc, really smooths it out.

In comparison to my Saxo, which upon further reflection, I can see myself using (contrary to my hasty 1st impression). First, you just can't ignore a piece that fires as smooth as the Saxo. Though, Wat nailed it yesterday, when he mentioned the mouth tube again. When he originally made the comment about looking "slapped on", I thought of it only in a visual way... which honestly, I don't think the look is a drawback. I get it now. Its @#$%ing HUGE. However, it is FUN to use. Really fun. I can't ignore it... plus, it along with the base and the mouth piece, the rest of it is HUGE! I went to put away my new SSFG pieces and there wasn't any room... because of the HUGE @#$%ing bubbler in my glass cabinet. Going to have to figure something out. I think the answer is going to piss off my wife, since it involves the linen closet. I think I'm going to lose this one. The Saxo is NOT going to be denied room to stretch its damn 6" base.

So back to impressions on the SSFG vapor tandem. The EIGHTEEN HOLE Gridded Inline Bubbler is a very nice piece. Its built extremely well and gives good feedback, though I think, might be a little harsh for beginners. That's what I like about it, however. Its a wonderful piece, if you have some really unique or exotic tasting herb. Of note, it is NOT a very forgiving piece, towards the end of a trench. I need to play with this one some more. I think lowering the temp on the PA and a slower draw will really make this piece shine. Its not one, I would use with lower grade meds though. Hope I won't have to find out. HA!

The Beaker, Showerhead, Inline 3pc Super Duper Wonder Glass Vapetastic Rig... Wow, is the word that constantly comes to mind, for an evolving opinion. When you get to enjoy vapor through something like this... it really opens your eyes. Smooooooth hitter. Excellent feedback and the rhythmic rumble of the inline, is what its all about. I can't see anyone trying this and NOT liking it. While Allison and Ray may think of this as a "Travel Beaker", I don't think this is going to ever leave the walls of my house. Belongs sitting out on a table. If I'm going to display my wife's hookah... dammit, this should get top-billing! Build a monument to this. LOL! On my fireplace mantle... there ya' go.

As with the Bubbler, very well built. Solid and feels like it can absorb some punishment. Though, with an inline on the front, I don't want to have many punishing encounters.

Gridded Inline Bubbler: B+ (unforgiving nature for n00bs)
10" Beaker, Showerhead Downstem + Mini Inline AC/Perc: A (would like about a 1/4" - 1/2" wider base, for increased stability... otherwise, bring it!)

I think about the only thing that could have improved on my new glass, would have been having a bit more money, to buy one of their pricier pieces. The one featured in the Cloud video, would be a great start. :D

I'll have to get to work on Allison to talk Ray into making me a slightly smaller version, if I ever win the lottery (or get my damn check). :tup:

EDIT: Upgraded my grade on the 3pc, getting used to the right leanback has made enough difference to bump it up. It really does hit sweet.

Best I can do for now. Too many trenches in 2 days. I think I need to slow down on the videos. The 1st milk shot with the Saxo was easy 1st take... BAM! Now, something ends up screwing up, every time. I gotta quit trying to talk when I'm <cough> medicated <cough>.

Hope you enjoy the video, which actually ended up being an unintentional milk shot. Though, better lighting and using my other hand to pull the whip would have NAILED IT. I'm done trying for the night/morning.

(Again, HD 1080 full-screen looks best)

What a guy!
It looks awesome BDV. I've talked with Allison a couple of times via email, and although Ray has some previous orders to do, he will be able to do a custom piece for me in about a month. I'm not saying anything more other then, seeing the AWESOME set up you have there I couldn't be more excited.

BigDaddyVapor

@BigDogJunction
Think I might bump up the grade on the Gridded Inline Bubbler, to an A-. It still gets a ding, for unforgiving end of trench pulls. You won't have ANY desire to try and stretch a trench out with this one.

HOWEVER, this piece shines in its element. Kicking back, reclined, book, TV, whatever distracting you. Prop this on your chest, or sit straight up, hang it out your mouth to the side... I don't give a @#$%... you're going to get one, very nice flavorful and full rip, off your herb

BigDaddyVapor,
I'm thinking of getting an SSFG beaker once some more money comes in. I haven't found a nicer piece for the price anywhere. Actually, price isn't even my main concern, size is. I don't need a 14-18 inch bong. 8-9 inches would be ideal for me, especially since I plan on using it solely with my Extreme Q.

Any other suggestions?

Modnote: This is an appreciation thread for SSFG. Please keep your suggestion solicitations in an appropriate thread.

kingofnull,
So I ordered a 7.5" Travel Beaker today with diffuser. I'm also getting the mini in-line ash catcher, and some custom pieces/jewellery. Price was fantastic, but above all was customer service. Allison is amazing at responding to customer inquiries. We must've swapped 30-odd e-mails over the past couple of days. They are going to ship out the Beaker right away, then after Ray blows me a new in-line and does my custom work they will ship that.

Looking really forward to getting my purchases. Sadly it might be 2.5 weeks to get to my location :(

Really wanting one of their worked inline bubblers. One day. I think my next glass purchase will be SSFG for sure! I'll have to use my cheap ass GEAR inline ash catcher in the meantime! Still does a decent job with 12 slits and a closed end!

I know, I'm a SSFG sycophant. I can't help it. Leviathan and SSFG until I die (and VB when they release their new bubbler)!

Not one for the Cheap Bastards, sorry... but a STEAL at $200. I want this BAD. Funny, because the pic, didn't do it justice... I asked Allison to send me different one. WOW! 18mm Dewaar in this thing. Double showerheads, not much taller than the top of the slide? YUM!

LINK: Showerhead Double Bubbler

Amber purple showerhead downstems in each chamber and comes with a matching 18 slide. The feet and the pull on the slide are sandblasted for contrast and there's a fractal sandblasted on the front.

This is the "eh" pic.

Too bad, its like 6 months WAY out of my budget.

NOTE: Thank you for merging mods. Forgot I had created a catch-all SSFG thread. My apologies for not searching, paying more attention.

@BigDogJunction
Oh yeah, I wanted to address the myth of 5mm+ glass.

My SSFG 3pc is 3.8mm (what they call 4mm). My Saxo Bubbler from GC, is supposedly 5mm. Guess which one, I would trust in a fall?

It isn't the 5mm one.

I have an exact count and can remember EXACTLY what angle and which part hit, of the 5 times my SSFG assembled 3pc vapor rig has taken a fall.

All falls attributable to me knocking it off balance and/or over. #2 and 4 falls were kicked over. All falls, with the exception of #5, were sitting at floor level. A keck clip has been installed since fall #3, between the beaker and downstem. The downstem hasn't ever been dislodged, even prior to the clip.

All falls, on bathroom, linoleum floor.

A reminder of my front heavy 3pc SSFG
sm_3pc_side.jpg

#1, 3 and 4 falls were falling to the off-side (opposite side of slide on the ac/perc). Impact first hit on AC/Perc end, then followed by floor impact with beaker. AC/Perc dislodged. No breakage, cracks, nor scratches.

#2 fall was on the slide side. Impact, at the rounded bottom portion of the slide, then transferred to beaker. AC/Perc dislodged. No breakage, cracks, nor scratches.

#5 was eventful! I think besides #1... this was the most heart-stopping. 3pc sitting on TOP of a 2 1/2" Tupperware deep dish (upside down, flat bottom). Set the 3pc down, went to stand up and knocked it, slow-mo, straight forward, hurtling towards CERTAIN neck/slide breakage. SLAMMED into the floor, right on the front leading edge of the AC/Perc... :doh:

:o

AC/Perc dislodged. No breakage, cracks, nor scratches.

Though, why 3.8/4mm? As Allison explained it to me. With smaller size glass pieces, the ratio of weight, stress, thickness do not require more. Its as strong, if not stronger than a larger 5mm piece. Plus, at 3.8... its a Hell of a lot easier (and cheaper) to repair.

So much for the 5mm myth. This little SSFG has indeed fallen 5 times, that would have and has broke several other pieces of glass. Keep it in perspective guys. Big 14"+ beaker... I'd want 7-9mm glass. Make the damn thing a club. Just don't fall into the 5mm trap. If it were possible for my Saxo to fall over (6" base, ain't happening unless it takes a tumble off something), I guarantee the 2 kick falls and probably the elevated one, would have shattered it.

BigDaddyVapor,

What a guy!
So yesterday I commissioned a completely custom piece from SSFG. Allison and I have been emailing back and forth for about a month. I should have my piece in about a month or so.

I'll put up a thread when it gets here. Until then no spoilers, except this from my orrder.

"Work on the bottom and then... Let Ray add his own special flare. Have him pick the second piece to work. I trust the artist."
