That birdhouse I posted above came today :)

I did a few small dabs of some oil I just made from saved ISO I used to clean all my vapes etc.

It worked quite well.

I didn't get any vapor leaking away unless I stopped pulling, and I didn't get any oil leaking down the inside.
It's probably not the best for big dabs, as I could see you losing oil inside it if you put too much in that little lip/dish, but for me it works well :)

Also, I think this one might actually be a left-handed one, as the lip has a very slight tilt to it, which makes it a little bit better for a leftie...
Its still perfectly usable thought
I like it, and since it has a 14mm male joint, it can easily mate with basically any piece I own :)

Looks like its thin walls lets it heat up pretty quick, but you dont find the cup too big?

Like, if that was your only nail, is it kind of annoying to use for a small dab?
no mine looked like the highly educated v2, i saw those on there and thought they were cool especially for the price but DYD got this nail smoked or not smoked.

So my $30 ebay nail came. Just did one heat-up, and it got covered in these white spots and started SMOKING (with a nasty smell)

I contacted the ebay seller and he said he can guarentee its grade 2 and can show me the receipt of the original purchase of the TI.

I did some more research and it seems like the white spots are fairly normal? Happens from heating too fast or over heating (which makes perfect sense...i used a propane torch)

But what about the smoking/funky smell?
Would you return or keep? :\

IME TI tastes/smells like shit when you put the torch to it when its unseasoned. gotta get some oil or reclaim on that bad boy to season it up before you really decide if something is wrong with it.

even my highly educated tasted like shit the first couple dabs (but I wasn't very informed back then about the seasoning process)

Been a little bit since I've posted in this thread...Over the past few weeks, I've been in contact with the wonderful folks at DoYouDab. I purchased one of their 18mm nails, and I am awaiting its arrival via USPS. I have to say, handling time on their part was amazing. I sent a payment via paypal, and had a live tracking number within a few hours. It showed shipped, and on it's way within hours of payment. I'm expecting it on monday. As soon as it comes in, I'll snap some pics, and throw them up here, before running to the LHS to show it off as promised. Then, I'll season it up for a proper review!

If anyone's looking to purchase these, I've been told that they can be found for sale in local shops with rigs, dependent on local (cali?) And if you can't find one locally, NEV from TokeCity should be able to help you out. He can be found on facebook here as he isn't on TC any longer.

I just ordered a Dab n Flo nail set on BM.
$80 for 2 heads (a regular & a large), 2 Star pieces (a 14mm & a 18mm) and 3 lengths of thread (for short, regular, or long domes)

So, what exactly do I need to do to "season" it?
Can I just torch it like a MoFo a few times, or do I need to actually do some dabs on it before it settles down?

With the birdhouse dome it was just heat glass, apply oil.

VAPOLITICS!
SEASONING WITH CLAIM is the clue indeed!
Keep on working on it a little and give it a try after a few processes when you see your dabbing surface "evenly oily"!
Yes frederick you should do this with Ti... If you cannot access concentrates/claims for seasoning you should try to get wand honey/qwiso properly filtered from abv or something that will leave no deposite but that will do the trick!

Edit* FL beat me to it, but I'll leave my post anyhow

From everything I've read, including HashMastaKut's method of seasoning ti, this is what I have gathered. The oil used is not so important. All oil, at a certain temp, will leave some residue, or "chaffe," a blackish substance. You want to dab multiple dabs, at a decent temp, to create a surface of this residue to dab on. For instance, if seasoning a Ti pad, you'd find the spot on the pad that you will prefer to dab on, and season that spot. On a pad, one reason is the oil rolls easily on the surface, making larger dabs difficult; however, once seasoned, the spot you've created will be much easier to dab on, allowing your dab do stat in place as opposed to rolling away.

With nails, the issue isn't so much the dab rolling away, as it is the taste of the Ti itself. So, a spot of built up residue is wanted. A few dabs of any oil should do, but reclaim/qwiso/less desirable oil would be better used, as these dabs won't be as tasty being on un seasoned Ti.

Hope that makes sense.

Cool, thanks for the info guys.
I'm thinking I need to make some oil out of my ABV stockpile.
It's getting close to 5 ounces.
I don't actually have a dome yet, but I just picked up a piece on BM that comes with one, an I'm getting one custom made for me by fishbone.
I can't wait :D

careful fred...it all starts with making abv oil...then you're making iso or bho with high quality nugs, then next thing you know it you have a tasmisium extractor in your house! :science:

This, is the exact progression, assuming I have a tami coming my way in the future!

Enjoy :science: and be safe

Whenever I season a nail (which seems to be all to often these days ;) ) I always season it once, and only once.

The best recipe for seasoning, is to heat the nail so it is half-way red hot. Let it cool down, just past the point of ideal dabbing. What I am trying to achieve, is a cold hit so to speak. I want the oil to puddle, smoke a little bit but stay on the ti surface.

Heat the nail as you normally would, and you will notice a perfect seasoning. The pores of the ti have now expanded, and have been dirtied up by your concentrate. Your nail is now ready for some abuse :)

If anyone has any questions, fire away!

Hello concentrate-accessory connoisseurs!

I was taking a look one of these days over the internet with a friend of mine and we came to two different setups (and price that seemed ok on our side), so I would like to ask your opinions on them both. Basically they are Ti nails, one with a glass dome and the other "domeless". Has anyone tried the domeless type? Don't it spill (that's what I believe the reason for the glass dome there for). These are:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...3&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_868wt_1141

http://www.ebay.com/itm/18mm-Domele...ltDomain_0&hash=item2a1defcc9c#ht_4622wt_1400

Do you have any tips for us? Are the above setups ok to start with for people with no experience at all?

Thank you very much!

Those should work, don't see why not. Domes are to keep the vapor in. The 'domeless' nail just has an air channel allowing the vape to go down the center of the shaft. But the dab won't spill, the nail itself takes care of that.

However, the nail itself can 'spill' or fall out of the joint, creating quite the nice burn mark in your buddies carpet haha.

It takes a hefty bump or a knock for that to happen, but it is very feasible.

Good point. I've always also liked the idea of having the dome covering the nail for my protection. I have grazed the dome with my hand many a time, luckily I've yet to graze the hot nail with my hand prior to putting the dome on it!

Be sure to let me know what you think sir ;)
When it comes time to place an order how do you prefer to be contacted?

Edit: If I'm not mistaken the David Goldstien fritted disk tubes use a 24mm male "direct inject" joint with an included adapter/reducer that acts as the dome. Can I use the DouYouDab with the David Goldstien tubes?

Edit: Found an answer on ALT: For Concentrates, Just Drop an 19 mm Concentrate Nail into the 24/25 mm Male Joint and Use the Chimney Adapter as a Top Load Vapor Dome

T-dub just FYI this is only for the "full size" tube. the mini can and the "DI" tube which is the same size/look as the full size both have regular 18mm male joints. the 24mm joint on the full size though is so thick that it holds an 18mm nail no problem cause of the inner joint thickness

Been using the DoYouDab 18mm nail for a little while. The counterweight is a 9mm cup which I prefer over the 18mm cup, because it heats up faster and I don't need huge dabs. The curved surface of the cup means that the oil will pool to the center and vape at a more controlled rate, rather than with a flat nail, where the whole dab goes up quicker because of the greater heated surface exposure. This is a good thing I find, I prefer this nail over all the other one's I've tried for the reasons mentioned. One thing that would make it better is more restriction in the fins, the same way a curve restricts air, providing a better vapor to air ratio for better flavor.

DYD feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the incredibly streamlined design; the uber skinny threaded rod, and the very open fins with less restriction, is to aid in use with pieces whose airflow has already been reduced by design, etc. IE, if you have a piece, that pulls particularly hard without a nail obstructing airflow, then adding a traditional nail could turn the piece into a thick milkshake: difficult to pull efficiently. With the DYD nail restriction is minimal. I don't know if this is why it was designed that way, but I've read reviews that say something similar about it being nice to use with pieces that are natively restrictive, sans nail.

For smaller dabs, the counterweight is ideal because of quick heat up times. The concave counterweight is the perfect remedy for quick stringers as well.

I am a dunker. I don't like using dabbers, or constantly wiping them. For me a large, easy to hit target was an important element of design. So, we started with the 18mm nail and made the head as easy to hit as possible. Plus, with so many different setups, it is hard to figure the angle at which the nail will set when dabbing. Therefore, we lengthened the walls of the nail, allowing for less (if any) overflow. Everything stays contained, in a neat package.
