Underdog Log Vapes

Slightly Medicated

I realized just now why I like using this so much. Also why I tend to turn it up higher then most. I tend to keep it around 13.90-14.01 volts when I am using it. This is about as high as I want to go.

I think lots of poeple tend to want to do many hits off one bowl. So they tend to draw at a medium to semi-fast speed. That way they can vaporize the bowl and get a good 3-5 hits depending on how much they load.

I am used to loading .5 grams in to my water pipe, roasting the entire bowl in one hit, pulling it through, and holding it in for 5-7 seconds. BTW I used to be a Tuba Player.... so lung capacity for me is crazy.

So... in order to get those lung busting hits I love and crave. I load an entire silicone tube full. About as much as most everyone else doe. The screen is 3/4th of an inch from the opening. I suck up a full load and loosely pack it down so there is room for the heating element to slide inside the tube. I start at a fairly fast speed till i see vapor. Then I rip the hell out of it. I try and pull as fast and as hard as I possibly can. I can vaporize the entire bowl to a medium/dark brown in one hit. Then I simply hold it in for 7-10 seconds and exhale. FINALLY!!!!! It feels like I am used to.

The reason I don't make the ABV to dark or even burn the matter at that high a voltage is because I am pulling air very fast and I have a tendency to cool the air down quicker so running it a little warmer compensates for that.

The underdogs are holding up well. They never smell like burning. So I think they can handle the voltage and heat for some period of time. It does make them smell good if I hold them up to my nose. Reminds me of a recently waxed coffee table that was near a hot sunny window and got really warm.

Thank you Dave for all your hard work!

I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these and was wondering if anyone could tell me how well the glass tube mates to a 14mm bong. Or do i have to use the silicone tube?

I would use the Silicone Tube. The Glass tube is pretty thin in diameter. A few pages back someone asked about an adapter for 14mm. There are a few various options.

The glass tubes don't all fit with 14mm, but if you order the thin silicone tubing, that makes a 100% air-tight seal with any 14mm GonG joint without buying an additional adapter.

Thanks for the replies. I might get away with sticking the glass stem into the bowl of my EHLE. It has a tiny intake hole and It worked very well with my short transfer wand from my LSV. Not a big deal if it doesn't work out, I just have been doing without silicone for awhile now.

The glass has a tiny bit of silicone on the end of the tube. That is where the herb chamber is along with the screen.

^Cool. I'm excited as hell to get my basswood twig. This is my first log and can't wait to see how it compares to the LSV..

Dave did you ever find that chart that had the Voltage to Temperature ratio? I would be very interested in seeing that. I feel like I am right on the edge oh the max power/heat with 14v. Boy does it rip though.

I just pulled out my IR thermometer and it is reading right around 424 degrees Fahrenheit at 14.04 volts This is making so much more sense as to why I am loving my dogs so much. There are several chemicals I think I like that have a boiling point right around 428F. Including Cannabichromene (CBC), Tetrahydracannbivarin (THCV), terpineol, and Borneol.

I also like vaping in the higher end of the spectrum at times. Maybe a VV power supply is something I should look into.

Hey SM - I didn't find it yet but I'll keep looking. Worse case scenario I'll just make a new one.. gotta get caught up with some custom pieces I'm working on first though.

Yup they are quite nice. Dave knows the one I have. I can get you the model number of one I've been using and enjoying for a while now. It'll cost you 1 picture of the S2K

I came up with an over the top way to ensure safety of the UD while using an adjustable power supply. I didn't like the thought of passing out and leaving it on at >12v all night, so what I do is when I feel like hitting it at 13v or whatever I unplug the stock power supply (it runs on this 24/7) and plug it in to the variable at my desired voltage. While holding the hit before I exhale I unplug it from the variable PSU and plug it back in to the 12v constant line. One extra step, but its one extra step that guarantees I won't ruin my work of art.

ohhhhh yeah! Order place this past weekend. Refreshing tracking info page every 30 seconds :brow:. Pouring over these old pages as I wait with baited dog breath. Got this maple twig and hope to fog it up by the end of the week. Question, do the newest twigs have the power port on the bottom or the side? If on the bottom, how can tey be left on upright (as I plan to use this mainly for aromatherapy )? Can't seem to find any pictures... Thanks again for the lightning fast turn around Dave!

@ hT - thanks again for the order dude, all pieces at this point have the power port on the side near the bottom.. only a few early generation pieces had it on the bottom. Hope you enjoy the piece.. ;)

i've had my variable power supply for about over a week now and i must admit that it's pretty nice. at first i thought i didn't need it but then realized that the power grid at my college was better than the power grid around my house because at home i couldn't get my ABV as dark as when i was at school. now i don't have any troubles and its nice being to vape at slightly higher temps especially since im more of a night time vaporist to help me relax to go to sleep. by the way i have this one,

http://www.amazon.com/Tekpower-HY-1502-Power-Supply-1-5/dp/B003EGYRP6

looks like they bumped it up 10 bucks since i got it. i plan on spray painting it over with black and seeing if i can spray paint the UD logo on there too. haven't had the time yet since im still adjusting from graduating school and getting back to working full-time. definitely will post pictures when i get around to it!

I found that if I can remember to run down the VVPS I get a cooler resting temperature at 12V then I do with the stock 12V adapter. I think the adapter tends to run around 13v or so. One I tested without a load was running around 15v. I don't trust that measurement as much because I cut the 2.1mm adapter off the cord and was measuring from the wireds not the male DC plug.

Another thing you can do that would solve the issue you are having it to buy an kitchen timer. Set the device for 12-30min and put it near the VVPS. Miy VVPS is metal so you can just slap a kitchen timer with a magnet on the side of it. Once the timer starts beeping you can get un-spaced just enough to run everything down to a lower voltage. I would forget to plug in the Underdog back into the stock power supply.

I think we are running different power supplies. My 12v one is one of the first models still kicking strong, but definitely not running TOO hot. Honestly though most of the time I don't use my variable, just for hash/kief or special occasions.

@ darkrom - yeah your old 12v power supply should put out just about exactly 12v whereas everyone else who has the newer power supply is running at 13.5v (ish).. so more like what you're running in your car. At 13+ it's definitely hot, really hot, uberhot. :p

gave my dog a nice buttering yesterday, really shines now.
also has gotten a tad bit darker. I already had the idea the earlier darkening was caused by buttering, but wasn't really sure.

He arrived today, thanks a ton! How long should I let it heat up before using?

Nevermind a little reading did me good :p thanks for the extras man!

Ps. groovy tape

@ djonk - cool dude, the butter will help protect the wood from drying out too much. Osage Orange darkens with time and heat will accelerate that process but the butter shouldn't add too much. Lots of times OO will eventually darken to a deep brown'ish color so I'm interested in seeing where yours ends up.

@ hT - no a surge protector isn't necessary though if you regularly have issues with your power or live in a area with poor quality power then it wouldn't hurt I suppose.

@ AA - glad your Pup showed up AA, I'd say 20-30 minutes should be plenty to start vaping. You'd probably start to get light vapor after a few minutes, 80-90% of max in 20-30 minutes and then full power in an hour or so.
