Mobius Glass

Frederick McGuire

I was looking at a HVY 4-arm showerhead bubbler on ALT, and read a similar thing about the arms not being level.
I've never seen one of them in person though so

Frederick McGuire,
Yeah, I'd be majorly bummed if I dropped $240 on a piece where the whole point is quality and durability, only to find that my ultra-thick glass is encasing crooked or poorly functioning perks. Might as well buy fucking china glass in that case.

Should I just save myself a bunch of money and go with an RX Industries 14" beaker for now? This is becoming a headache, haha.

@sessnet- ohh yea that is still quite a trip for you. thanks, i appreciate the offer but unfortunately i don't have the money to justify a purchase like that. i had just bought an UD with my tax return money so i probably won't be considering anymore purchases til next years tax return. for now i'm content with drooling over the mobius' as a window shopper

@OKComputer- if you're looking for a beaker bottom for a good price i have heard good things from FCer's about this website

I was very happy with my RX industries beaker when I got it.

As a first piece its nice, and you can add an ash catcher if you want to add another perc.

If you want any pics or vids of the beaker in action, let me know.

EDIT: I've heard good things about SSFG too, I've never hit one though.

Frederick McGuire,
I contacted SSFG and they can make me either a beaker with a showerhead DS and showerhead perc, or a gridded stemline, for $150+$15 shipping. Crazy prices for pieces like that, considering a comparable HVY 5mm beaker with a showerhead perc and a shittier 6-slit downstem would cost upwards of $250 plus shipping.

Anyone care to comment on their experiences with SSFG?

I would buy from them again. The glass isn't as precise or as straight as the brands like HVY, SYN etc but the quality of the glass is excellent.

Shipping to Australia is dirt cheap.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "quality of the glass is excellent" if it isn't as straight and precise? From reading on other sites, it looks like SSFG pieces sometimes come w/ bubbles, crooked percs etc. I know that this can happen with virtually all manufacturers, but I just want the safest possible bet considering I won't be able to hold the piece in my hand before I buy it.

The glass itself can vary in quality.

It's a craftsman vs materials thing.

The craftsman may not be perfect, but the materials are great.

(at least that's how I read it :2c:)

Frederick McGuire,
Ended up throwing all of my previous choices out the window and going with something that I knew all along would be extremely practical:

HiSi Jamaican Can Bubbler from High Priority Glass.

First of all, videos of diffusion from the included downstem look great. The angle of the downstem will prevent the HI from getting in my face during a hit. The mouthpiece and downstem are both removable (and 18mm), allowing you to insert the downstem into the vertical joint and the mouthpiece into the 45 degree joint, or vice versa. Plus, this will be comically easy to clean/pack up for travel, etc.

I had my eye on this for a while, but it was out of stock at HPG and not sold anywhere else. Last night I was looking at bubblers and tubes with my wife, trying to finally make a decision on something. The HiSi caught her eye, and it had been screaming at me as the most practical choice in terms of stability, cleaning, versatility and diffusion for the money.

Decided to call HPG to see when it would be back in stock, expecting "sorry, we never know when things are coming in stock." Instead, the clerk tells me they have one in, and to refresh the page in 5 minutes. Lo and behold, the clerk immediately updated the website, allowing me to buy the piece. $160 bucks shipped with 15% off. +REP for HPG.

Gonna be a happy 4/20 motherfuckers, FUCK COMBUSTION.

Congrats on finally picking something man! I've been following this journey since you first made that post in the classifieds looking for a < 100$ bubbler, lol

I wonder though, can you guys actually see anything on the photo's on HPG? It's all just white to me. I have to download the photo's and work the lighting in photoshop before I can see anything

OhTheAgony,
Yeah, HPG definitely needs a better backdrop for their photos. I can definitely make out what the pieces look like without any filtering though.

Here's a Youtube video I found showing the piece with the downstem inserted vertically:

Thats a whole bunch of clouds? what did you use to milk that? HI?

sessnet,
Yeah should have made that more clear. That's just a random video on Youtube (and please excuse the annoying audio, haha).

Tbh I was too disgusted by the smoke to notice any audio, but an apology would go a bit far me thinks

What Federick said. Like it's not perfect but the glass is quality. I find it hard to describe until you hold it in your own hands and see it with your own eyes. Pictures on their website and online don't do justice to the quality and craftsmanship of Ray's works.

I am wanting to purchase a mobius reti glass artwork but can not find it anywhere. I am from Europe, so going to my local headshop is not an option, they don't have these kind of pieces of art, mostly only chinese glass.

If anybody knows a way for me to get one of these nice art pieces then could you let me know? If anybody has one and feels like letting go of it then don't hesitate to drop me a message.(to moderators, if you feel this should be with classifieds then feel free to move it, but I think this is more of a general question)

You'll have to buy one in the US and import it yourself if you want one.

Here

You better stalk that website like crazy and be ready to jump on it as soon as one comes in stock though, they usually go very fast.

You may be able to contact Mobius directly through facebook or something, I'm sure one of the American glass-goeroes will jump in with more info.

Don't forget there will be 20% added for taxes and a custom fee (inklaringskosten).

thx for the tips, will sure try it that way, and yeah, I know, customs will take a huge pice of the pie...

It's worth asking if they're flexible about the declared customs value. SWIM had a $150 order declared as $20, which is below the import VAT threshold here. Some sellers are prepared to be flexible. It's tax fraud though :uhoh:

WatTyler,

Wat, over here the VAT goes over the price of the item AND shipping costs, is it the same over there?

It kinda suck because even if you have something labeled like a gift and keep the value below 40 Euro's the shipping costs will still drive the price up to the point where VAT will be calculated :cuss:

Fraud shouldn't be this hard, ya know.. :ugh:

We just get it levied on the declared value on the package. Officially I think this is meant to include postage and packaging costs, unless it's marked as a 'gift' and then postage is excluded. However, on the standard form attached to the parcels I've received from overseas there's no separate entry for shipping/handling charges- just an overall declared value on which they base their charges.
