Do you guys get a lot of reclaim from those adapters? My Ehle downstem colors amber pretty fast now my UD successfully fogs up the place, but I can't find a thin glass reclaim container that is long enough to fit it :bang:

@OTA- most of my reclaimables are in the silicone stem, the elbow & tubing does have build up, I just havent got enough to try to recliam yet.

But I harvest the silicone stem once a week & then load it into my UD & amaze my combusting friends with a massive hash hit punch in the face.

i then scrape their pathetic drooling asses off my carpet, declare them useless combusting heathens & urge them to repent their combusting ways.

3 hits from my UD loaded with hash will stop any muthafucker in his tracks who says vapor doesnt get them where they want to be. :D

'No thanks, I think i will just see how I go for a few minutes.' is what they say as drool starts to run from the cnr of their mouths after 3 hits & when offered a 4th.

They dont seem to say very much after that point.
??? go figure????

Pussies:rockon:

Ohtheagony, I kind of swap the Q elbows back and forth between pieces, so it's hard to credit any single vape for harvesting the most.

@ Abysmal - nice stuff there dude, maybe an UD along some of those lines will be born some day.

@ Dorkus - lol that's great, glad to hear you're running a tight UD ship down there dude!

Not much exciting news for today, just work work work in the shop but not much to show other than one piece I finished. A custom Mahogany uberTwig with offset power jack and some specific dimensions to fit in a car cup holder type spot for someone.

Although, a low tolerance is something I can really envy myself....

Could you elaborate on how harvest your silicon stems some more please?

What I do is I press out the screen once to twice a week, which seems to take care of most of the gunk if you do it right. I dump those in my reclaim container and don't take it out again until I dump in the next screen so it can replace that one. After two weeks or so my stem really started to stink and even feel a bit oily from the outside so I dumped it in the reclaim container for a minute or so and then soaked in (almost boiling) hot water with some bong cleaner, brushed it a bit and then I rinsed it out, inserted a screen and put it back in to service again. I should have just thrown it away after the rinse in the alcohol/ethanol though. It so amber colored now that I can't really see through it, which is how I eyeball what amount of herbs I've put in a bowl late at night in low light conditions.

CDS, interesting signature changes I've seen from you today. I wonder what will be the end result there :dog:

Going glassblowing today, feeling optimistic, hence the Etsy store "VaporCentric Glass" with the funky old pipe. Click the link again in a week's time and there might be some very interesting items. And yeah, it seemed like my laundry list of vapes and former vapes took up alot of space on the screen with the new BB system, so I axed it.

I've never had to clean or throw away the actual stems yet, guess I haven't been using them with the same enthusiasm as you guys. I do have the really old style hosing from when the B day Dogs were going out, which may act differently.

I mostly use the glass stem, but I also eyeball the amount trough the silicone, I hold it up in front of the tv or laptopscreen
I do use a silicone stem for hash, hash works surprisingly well even at my lower temp, I mostly just taje a few puffs of hash in between stems tough, at this moment there's still some reclaim from the glass stem in it(a few years back I took such an electric flyswapper apart, and the metal rods from that are perfect for things like cleaning pieces or stirring bowls, I also always keep one of those with me, always comes in handy)

Interesting, I was considering emailing you about that other one you had in the classifieds not to long ago but Darkrom jumped right on top of that, ha! Let me know when you feel comfortable enough to take a custom order please :brow:

That reminds me, I have a glass stem to torch myself as well. Today seems to be a good a day to play around with that *gets on it*

Have fun letting the creativity out today dude

ps: I do think it's helpful to know what vapes people I'm talking to use or have used. Just an idea but perhaps you could put them somewhere in your profile instead?

Now stop editing so I can stop editing please, lmao

OhTheAgony,
Yeah, alot of my old work is a little rough like the concentrate pipe on Etsy is now, but that little bubbler worked really well with the UD and I think looked kind of cool too, despite my bad photos. I need to rig up an actual photostudio type area in my house to take photos in, I've been meaning to for a long time. Anyway, I won't be taking custom orders for many moons because I'm quite rusty, but I really hope to eventually provide a place to get the custom, vapor-centric pieces we all want.

It's funny, I originally just wanted to call the store CDS Glass, but found out that it's already a trademarked company. Nuts!

Never tried any type of concentrate in my Dog as of yet, I just thought the lower temps would make it not worth while. Guess I'll have to give it a go sometime.

I didn't expect hash to work as well either, but I had some anyway so I just tred it, can always finish it with the VG I thought. the first few hits you don't get any visible vapor but you do get delicious taste, after that vapor starts coming especially if you break/push it out a bit more. inhale slowly. keeps going for a long time, when I finally finished that first stem(wich took multiple days I think, since I only took puffs in between herbfilled stems), I took the hash out and turned out it was crumbly just like in my VG when it's finished(if it isn't finished yet with this hash it still feels a bit sticky/gooy, sticks together while if it's done it crumbles into powder between my fingers)
it did have a lighter color as when finished in my VG, but in my VG I also sometimes combust some in the last hit of hash in my effort to get the last out with higher temp.

The following UD review is mainly for those lurkers searching for a device for a functionally challenged user. First, I would like to thank all of the contributors to this thoughtful, intelligent forum for educating me over the past 3 years when I made the complete switch to vapor and developed VAS. We are middle-aged and well acquainted with the herb. My husband, who previously would not switch, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and can no longer combust . At this point though, he really needs medication for nausea and has tried several vapes (VG, PDP, MFLB, CRZ, Solo, Gnome, UD) and has settled on the UD as his vaporizer of choice. After using UD a few times, his words were “now THAT is a great set-up”. Here is why the UD works for us.
It is always on and ready to go at an effective temperature that delivers obvious evidence of medication delivery. Not too harsh on the throat/lungs if one is used to inhalation methods. Taste is excellent until the bowl is cashed and there is no mistaking when that occurs. Simple to use, no special techniques necessary, very little learning curve. No lighters or hot glass parts to worry about, no need to press buttons or change/charge a battery. The silicone bowl keeps the stem on the device so no spillage of contents with shaky hands. The affordable corked, glass stems are perfect to preload doses for use throughout the day and I highly recommend them over the standard silicone. The available extension cord is a must if limited mobility is an issue as the included cord does not reach across the bed/couch. Each UD is unique, attractive and discrete and can be left out in front of visitors. Without the stem, it does not look like paraphernalia and does not raise questions. Also functions as a hand warmer and he often holds it when not in use. It is made from once living, natural materials which I think plays a part in the attachment he has formed to this particular vaporizer. I am reminded daily that this one is HIS. Last, but far from least, is the excellent customer service from Dave.
If you are looking for a vaporizer for an ill or elderly individual with memory/cognitive impairment, limited ability to learn new skills, decreased physical mobility, give the UD a close look. For value, we went with a Lost Dog and couldn’t be happier. It is worth every penny and then some. It has a crack but it is still beautiful Koa wood and works flawlessly. I realize that there is no perfect vaporizer, but for our situation, the search is over. Thank you Dave and thank you FC for making this life better and easier.
sorry for the font and color issues, my first post ever and dont know how to use the options

Glad to hear that Dog serves well to people who are in need.. Nice review.. Also i can't help myself but being a little curious .. How did you manage to try such wide variety of vaporizers ?Do you own them or you just tripped on some member around here with collection rich enough to show all those models :). (they are also somehow chronologically ordered.. from VG,(old) to Gnome/UD which popped out "recently".
Other than that.. i must say that even if the one of Leitmotivs of the forum is "there is no best vaporizer" ... this is the best i have encountered so far....
It fogs better than the supreme off same amount of herb. (which i got recently and fogs awesome) ..
Is more efficient than any other vape i tried. (or at least is most suitable to my habits.. and helps me naturally conserve).
Has killer looks and the wooden log roots you to the nature.. .. I can go on forever.. telling how much i like it ..
The only thing i can regret about my dog.. is that it raised my demands to vaporizing units up high.. and i will compare with every vape i purchase or try in the future.. and probably get bigger amount disappointment than if i haven't tried the UD experience..

I own them all and that is the order they were acquired. I've had the UD for about a week. I am an avid lurker on this forum and everything I know about vapor is from FC. It started with the VG in 2009 and I never looked back. He wouldn't vape until he got sick in the last few month and doctor said no smoke. He was still resorting to combusting before the UD for various reasons, mostly frustration with learning curves as building new memory is now very compromised. Now he wont combust because he thinks the meds are bad or tainted due to smoke taste. The UD is ideal for us. I am really grateful for it and for the info I have obtained from FC.

@ CDS - hey dude, that's awesome.. we also spent the day in a glassblowing class, small world! I learned some cool new tricks today that I think will benefit all you UDs out there in the fairly near future. :borg:

@ Tiare - welcome Tiare, thanks for the great feedback and review of your UD. Very happy I could help you get a piece for your husband to get the most of his medicine with. To me it's icing on the cake that he also enjoys the nature of the wood and the look/feel of the piece too. I guess I'm not the only one who finds handling the pieces to be soothing. If you need any more help of any sort don't hesitate to get in touch. :)

@ Azathoth - hey man thanks for de-lurking and psyched you got the piece and are enjoying it. Thanks for your patience with the process. Hope you continue to dig the Pup for a long time to come.

Alright dudes and dudettes - I'm off to the shop for a bit of work before retiring for the night, another early morning glass class tomorrow so time is limited. I'll check back in here later and in the morning before heading out in case anyone needs anything.

Thanks!

dave, excuse me for bringing up the silicone thing, but what is the max temp for the silicon you are using?

I have little knowledge of silicone but would like to know your opinion -from wikipedia "The use of silicones in electronics is not without problems, however. Silicones are relatively expensive and can be attacked by solvents.Silicone easily migrates as either a liquid or vapor onto other components."

I read somewhere that the stem can be cleaned with ISO and resin reclaimed, but does "can be attacked by solvents" mean it may not be recommended style of cleaning?

and if "silicone can easily migrate as vapor" what is the chance we are breathing it in?

I got high temp silicon non stick cookie baking dish.. it is rated to endure 260 C :).
Btw.. i am using only small pieces to connect to the core.... and loading directly in the gong gnome bowl...before that i used stream roller for that purpose.. Reclaimed glass covered with sweetest UD sap.. is one of my favorite things to do.. Taste better than purest concetrates IMO.

i've come to seen how much my dog loves water! hitting the UD through a water pipe makes it so super smooth. its also deceiving for my friends trying it because they don't feel a thing while hitting but then when they clear the pipe and step back they start coughing and are in shock! i've been mainly using mine with a water pipe now and love it.

Hi sunsett - no worries, no such thing as a bad question around here. The silicone we use is high-temp silicone and is FDA approved high quality food grade stuff. It has an A rating vs ISO alcohol (ie, it is unaffected by ISO) and rated at up to 500°F.

The the migration stuff typically means is that during application it can migrate which can contaminate other stuff. For example if you spray a silicone based lubricant on something the mist (ie, vapor) has a high likelihood of contaminating other surfaces and then being very hard to remove. At standard operational temperatures of a log vape there is no out-gassing, vaporizing or anything like that of high-temp silicone. The stuff we use is the same grade of stuff used in ovenware.

That all being said I understand there are some people who will prefer not to use silicone and for that we offer our glass stems that use an absolute minimum amount of it. I've also changed the size of our core tube to accept non-silicone stems from the PD, Zaps and some of Alan's stems as well for even more choices.

Great Scott!
Nice to see Joe's custom plug cup holder contraption haha. If he gets the heat up time I get with my new twig then I doubt he will be leaving it plugged in if his cars output is as high as mine lol. 1-3 hits and I can completely extract all the goods and have blackish ABV that still hasn't quite combusted. To lower the temp I simply slide the screen back more.

How quickly is your new Proto-Twig heating up darkrom? My Purple Pint has been retrofitted with the new proto-core and the heat up time has been cut down by about 10 minutes. I am now able to get full clouds at 15 minutes. The outside of the unit also doesn't get hot anymore which is a big plus. Still pulling out those famous clouds like before though
