How does mj help you?

Day to day, I read threads and posts by different forum members here, and while I become more familiar with some, others are just a username. Reading this thread, I became more aware of the health problems faced by many here and it personalized the usernames more. I started thinking about the individual forum members here and their usage of cannabis. Why do they use it? While recreational for some, others need it for medicinal usage above and beyond the recreational merits it has. It's all fun and good to talk about which vapes give you lung busting hits and which glass works best, but how about how the mj affects one medicinally? And what "ailment" you have that it helps? I realized that there are some forum members that face great difficulties daily.

So, I thought I would start this thread to bring out into the open some of the problems these people face, and how cannabis has helped them.

I use mj to help combat pain. Not only does it help decrease the pain, it gives me a better frame of mind that helps me not think about the pain and helps me limit my usage of narcotics.

How about you?

Sativa strains appear to ease my symptoms of ADHD. Only a very small amount though; enough to help me focus, but not so much that I get high and have my short-term memory impaired.

Cannabis pulled me out of a depression years ago and eases my severe anxiety, both socially and generalized. I can talk to people and feel confident, and it helps me focus on my studies and work. If I hadn't started vaporizing mj I'm not sure who/how I would be.

marijuana also pulled me out of a few year slump of heavy depression. i had been extremely depressed throughout my junior high and most of my high school career and finally attempted to end my life, though luckily my good friends came and talked to me and brought me to the hospital. This was before i had ingested any drugs of any kind, as i was "straight-edge" and felt i did not need "drugs bringing me down".

what a silly mindset that was, especially when i was rockbottom already. After a couple months of attempting to return back to my normal self (semi-difficult when you're now known as a suicidee), i discovered the wonderful things that this incredible plant had to offer. i found that after a few tokes, i no longer thought so badly about myself, and found my mindset was that of a much more rational and optimistic view. I no longer felt any desire to die, and in fact for the first time in years, i truly wanted to live.

It has been several years since then, and though my depression has subsided, i continue to use marijuana for its recreational and therapeutic effects. I have been and still am an avid skateboarder, and already my knees are jacked up from jumping down 10+ stairs and gaps when i was in high school. I cannot go for extended periods of time without stretching them out, or it becomes quite painful, making car rides and plane rides very uncomfortable. instead of opting for synthetic pharmaceuticals, i choose to use this natural medicine to relieve my stiff joints and aches and bruises from falling.

i also use marijuana as a sleep aide, in addition to pain relief, i mean what other all natural medicine can safely be used to treat both on a daily basis?

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. As a result, I have severe pain and inflammation. I have to take opiates to help control the pain because it is too bad to control with cannabis only now. That adds nausea and sometimes vomiting to my problems. Cannabis helps all three. It helps me have better range of motion, and have a better quality of life.

I met MJ when I was almost completely grown-up, I never puffed in my youth days, I approached this plant with an adult view, not the tipical stoner teenager behaviour. When I started using it, I was in a bad situation with my ex-girlfriend (that hated mj) and wanted to try something new, wanted to change my stateofmind. I slowly discovered the MJ world, and everything related to it. I started growing and appreciating the plant and its fruits, I then learned about vaping and switched to it completely. Now this medicine relieves the stress at the end of the day, when I come back home from work. It helps me focus on really important things, and helps me to not get angry for useless things, I am more open and it helps me love my life. Plus, it helps me with my back-ache since years of snowboarding, skateboarding, paragliding and supermotard made me a little wrecked. I enjoy my vapor along with my girlfriend, and that's a great thing, we both switched to vapor simultaneously and are always on the same mindset, enjoying together a new piece of glass or a new vape :D yes because vaping is such an hobby, one can get lost among things you can do when vaping, including collecting hardware, cooking with abv, making concentrates etc etc...
Oh I forgot it helps me in making music too! Great inspiration.

Great thread . . . thanks Mom. I like to keep it short so I will say the "best" thing, out of many, that mmj does for me is get rid of that perpetual sick feeling I always have. The antibodies I take to modify my immune system have "unintended consequences". One of them is I feel sick all the time. When I say sick I mean not just nausea sick, if that wasn't bad enough, but I get this shaky, insubstantial feeling, like the wind can just blow right through me. Its hard to describe, its just like a big, sick weight on your chest. And it is a wall that your personality can find it hard to come through a lot of times. It can be a prison, especially with constant pain thrown in.

I'm so glad to see all the responses. Not only does it help show that cannibis helps and how, but it personalizes some of the usernames and makes us "people." :)

tdub, this defines exactly how I felt while on treatment for HepC a few years back. They give you drugs that are called chemo when used for cancer. That hollow, insubstantial feeling is awful; I remember it well. I truly feel that cannabis got me through treatment. It helped the nausea and the headaches/pain from it immensely.

I have borderline personality disorder which brought with it depression and eventually an eating disorder and insomnia. After app. four years of living with BPS I tried smoking with my brother. I noticed that I was able to eat without feeling nauseous. I was able to sleep easier at night because my depressive symptoms were greatly reduced. My thoughts of suicide, which at one point had become daily thoughts, almost disappeared. After 3 years with cannabis I can say that even though my disorder is still present, vaping has made day to day life much more enjoyable than it ever could have been otherwise.

I used to just use it for recreational fun. In my early 20's it helped me sleep when I got off opiates. Then it helped me sleep when I quit drinking about 2.5 years ago. About 2 years ago, I was in a nice little motorcycle accident. I was slammed into the ground with my shoulder and side of head taking most of the blow. If I wasn't wearing a helmet, I would not be typing this right now. No damage to my head, but my helmet was basically in pieces. However, I did manage to break my clavicle and drive it down into my lung, partially deflating it. Spent a week in a shitty hospital and had surgery. They gave me vikes when I got out of the hospital but I just sold them all and bought a fat sack. Fast forward to about 8 months later. My shoulder is still sore, but not real bad. It took a business trip away from herb for a few days for me to realize how much the herb was helping my overall pain. On the 2nd day of not using herb (the first time I went for more than 24 hours w/o vaping since I got out of the hospital), I noticed a throbbing pain in my shoulder again. This continued for the next few days. I was up every hour or 2 all night and had trouble sleeping. Once I got back home I vaped immediately and the pain almost completely went away. It doesn't hurt much at all anymore, but I contribute that to the fact that I vape everyday.

Also, I almost NEVER get sick in general. Is it a coincidence? I give the weed credit for keeping me healthy, even more so now that I vape 100% of the time!

Since I was a young kid in grammar school Ive struggled with a lot of anger issues. Not normal anger, anger that never seemed to leave me, it felt like a sleeping monster always prepared to attack. My first time smoking was such an incredible experience, it drove away the monster and happiness and relaxation flooded over me. Unfortunately I couldnt afford to buy it so the relief was always short lived. Over the last 10 years Ive gone through 15 jobs, gotten into fights, and burned a lot of bridges due to my temper. I finally discovered vaporizing, and most importantly a healthy way to consume pot (I didnt like smoking it knowing what it was doing to my lungs) and my quality of life has dramatically improved. Aside from slight road rage the anger which once dictated my life is now gone, Ive been at my current job for almost 3 years, and my relationship with family and friends is excellent.

same! there are reports of marijuana supposedly reducing the effectiveness of your immune system, but i think there is something wrong with this logic as i haven't been sick in a long, long time since i started vaping everyday, and i notice my drinking/smoking friends are always wheezing or suffering from some ailment

I don't believe that it reduces effectiveness of the immune system as much as it can dampen or heighten the effects. This could be key in auto-immune diseases where the immune system has over reacted and gone haywire, such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, etc.

Remember, the cannabinoids work together to maintain balance through regulation and synergy.

It eases auto-immune diseases .. and lowering a bit your immune system daily is not that unhealthy ..
Mj also reduces symptoms of most diseases so you get sick a bit without feeling so bad. After rounding a joint or vape with your friends .. for few years you get trough various diseases without know it.. and that makes your immune resitance better overall.

I can see what you are saying. I myself feel that I rarely get sick, once a year with a cold for a few days is about it, and I had that the past month. But, when you mention going through a sickness without even knowing it, it brings back recollections of when I thought I was sick but didn't quite feel like I was.

Personally, one of the few medicinal reasons why I vape (others stated in earlier post) is because I found it allows airflow through my nostrils. Somethings wrong with my nasal passages, yet to see a doctor about it, but I can never breath fully though both nostrils. It's either one nostril I can and the other only half the airflow. When I vape, and I become vaked, one of the signs my body gives me is a drippy nose. With this drippy nose for a couple minutes, it allows me to breathe hours after. I can only imagine how many times I've had a slight cold, but couldn't tell because of the vaping.

Well, I guess I'll start with the ailments, then how the cannabis came into play.

From when I was young, probably 4-5years old, to this day, I have had issues eating, or digesting most foods. I always had stomach aches when I was a little kid, sometimes a few a week, sometimes daily, sometimes less often. I had tons of Dr's appointments, x-rays, tests, blood work, etc, and nothing was ever found. Most times I would eat a meal, small or large, I would get a horrible stomach ache within 20-40 minutes of eating. This lead to me getting sick and nauseous a lot. My parents though I may have chrohns, or cilliacs or something along those lines.

Fast forward to high school. During my first year at high school, I was exposed to cannabis for the first time, other than the DARE program. I tried it, and enjoyed its recreational effects. I continued to smoke recreationally(sp) throughout high school on and off. I didn't make the connection between the cannabis and my ailments until the beginning of my senior year. One night I was hanging out with some friends, my stomach had been horrible that entire week, and it had been a little while since I smoked. My friends decided to smoke a bowl, and offered some to me. I declined as I wasn't feeling so well, but they kept saying "it'll make your stomach feel better, etc" so I toked up. Sure enough, minutes after the first hit or two, my stomach flipped. It went from horrible horrible shooting pains, and a feeling of being on the verge of nausea, to a mellow and empty, but ok, feeling. I was shocked, as I'd never smoked when I was sick like that. After a few more hits I was able to eat, and digest the food fully with no pain or nausea.

About 9 months after I first made the connection between cannabis's medical benefits, and my ailments, I started looking into doctors that would recommend. My regular doctor knew about my use, even before I discovered it's benefits. Though my doc knew, and was ok (still unhappy) with my use, they wouldn't recommend it to me as medicine. I ended up finding a dr. who specialized in MMJ recommendations, as well as many alternatives to modern medicine & pharmaceuticals. Upon meeting with this doctor, we discussed many things. We came to the conclusion that not only does cannabis aid my nausea and stomach pain, it relieves my back and neck pain, and it helps my depression and anxiety tremendously. I had assumed it was the anti depressants that helped the depression, but it wasn't. (I still see my regular Dr for usual things, as it is closer than driving 2.5 miles to my recommending Dr. I still see my recommending Dr at least a couple times a year for holistic treatments/back alignment.)

I got my recommendation in the end of the summer of 2010, and vaporizing since the beginning of this year. Since I got my recommendation, I have not been on any prescription medications, and have been feeling better than I ever have. My life has changed in many ways for the better. Just the depression and anxiety relief alone amazes me. I never knew I was depressed, but always knew something was off. With cannabis, I can live my life, day to day, with minimal if any interference from my ailments. I realize that my situation is nothing in comparison to many others who suffer much more severe issues, and do not even get the full relief that they need from cannabis alone. All I can do is hope for more advancements when it comes to MMJ anything, laws, new treatment methods, as well as non relief uses for cannabis (curing diseases on a cellular level, cancer, etc.)

Reading this thread puts my situation into perspective for me. It also shows that cannabis has no bounds when it comes to it's "appropriate" applications. It truly is a wonder-plant.

Sorry for the long winded post. Never really typed it out or even thought it all out... :peace:

Thanks for sharing. This puts things in perspective for many, I am sure!
My doctors are amazed at how I function, and I do tell them that I owe it to "juicing and vaping MMJ"
(vegetable juice... I believe that juicing carrots and some other veggies make me get higher when I am vaped!.. as well as stronger)

Another effect cannabis has for me are what I call the "warm fuzzies" Before bed a strong Indica will dilate every capillary in my body. The result is my joints warm through and I feel like I am getting a warm massage all over. Great for the circulation and my arthritis. I remember the first time I tried some "G13" that stuff rang my body like a bell.

I used it recreationally starting in college and have always loved it for playing guitar. Kind of opens up some avenues of creativity. Now I am getting older and have worn out places in back, neck and shoulders and I am able to get excellent pain relief with cannabis. My stomach cannot tolerate tylenol and all that for more than a day or two. Vaporizing completes the process because I had all sorts of problems from combusting which went away once I quit in favor of vapor.
