Discontinued The Grasshopper

my theory? The new io is a rebranding and upgraded model of THE GRASSHOPPER, and they will no longer be making the OG Grasshoppers.

After using my io for a while, I also thing one of the reasons they switched from red and blue lights to just white is for the "perception" of "instant on." It gets hot fast, but that's probably just because the evolution of the circuitry throughout the years. It's not up to full temp instantly. It ramps up quickly, like a second or 2, and it is basically unecessary to have 2 colors to indicate when it's up to temp since it's so fast. Also, if/when the time it takes to get up to temp (because of weak batts for instance) gets a bit longer, it is way less apparent when there's no color change that indicates it's reached it's target. I notice now, after using it for a few weeks, it sometimes takes a second longer than other times. Best not to highlight that anomoly.
Like I said, just my theories.
Not all just theory, it's pretty clear that the io is the rebranded and upgraded model!
I guess the question remains, "Will the Grasshopper go forward or are we witnessing the phase-out?"
I still think the "io" name is pretty clever. Most of the devices, appliances and machines I own turn on instantly when I through the switch. Sometimes the car is reluctant...and the chain saw.

Almost there...
Happy 420 Hopper owners!!
:leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf:

Hopper is still functioning flawlessly after the home service.
First bowl of the day was some Medusa Pink/Kief/Medusa Pink...
Preheat at 5 for 6 seconds, click off, reset to 3.75 and rip.
Two whitewalls of the RooR, first one was all the money while the second had that distinctive flavor.

So starts the day of 420!

On April 14 I opened a warranty request and right away got the auto-reply that my request had been received and that I'd hear back in 3 to 5 days on what to do (I assume that would be "wait in line for us to tell you when to send it in").
3 days later I got the same auto reply two more times.
Now its 9 days with no actual reply to my request.
I had to open the new request because the warranty portal would not let me re-open the original request.
All of this, on an og I waited patiently for over a year for body replacement, and HL has sent 2 bodies now that were rubbish (I've already described the smells and heater falling out...).

Hey, does anyone know how to get on the list for the AC Adapter and battery sled? Or did I miss that boat?
Just go buy the parts on the maxvapor site. (you can't buy it all as a kit, but you can get everything you need individually)

Edit: I take it back ... looks like you missed out ... maybe interest will generate another round of production ... who knows.

Hopper Labs has refused to give me a refund on my initial pre-order money as well as money I spent to "pre-order" the non-existent battery charger and the 3 batteries I paid $40 for that they said to discard. It totals about $250. It has been months of emails between their "customer service" and I still have not heard back from them. They are claiming there is something wrong with my PayPal and that my orders are "too old" to refund. I know for a fact that my PayPal accepts refunds because I have received several recently from Eventbrite for concerts that were canceled. They offered to mail me a check, which I agreed to accept only if they sent it with some sort of tracking number. I have yet to hear anything back from the company.

All who wander are not lost...
Minor recent observation: my repaired pre order Ti has been working flawlessly since its return from RMA in September ‘19 (a year long sabbatical at HL). A few times I’ve turned it on recently, nothing happened: no lights or anything. I clicked the button to undo it and presumably turn it off then I turned it back on again and it then heats up (red to blinking blue - I seldom get steady blue these days with aging batteries). All seems right with the Hopper again but its weird it’s happened a few times recently.

Still love my Hopper though! It so simple and easy to use and clean as well as quick, stealthy (though less important where I live in a legal state) and small. I’ve even thought about getting the io as an upgrade and gifting my Ti to someone. We’ll see as the io reviews and comments are still minimal at this point. But I am intrigued with potentially improved performance and better battery handling, both of which have been a thorn in my side in the past. HL has restored some of my faith in fixing my Hopper the first time even though it took an entire year. Batteries on the other hand have always been a sore topic with me and I’ve received some duds in the past. I’m certainly not jumping on the io bandwagon yet but a new Hopper would be lots of fun - as long as the batteries are available! I do think HL has ironed out the vape’s internals. They however can never let up on quality control for everything otherwise they’ll have nothing at the end of the day....:peace:

Under our rules, you are allowed one post to describe your problem and the company gets one post to respond. After that, communication must be through PMs or off this site. This is actually your third post about this issue. I'm letting it stand but I've removed the content relating to the action you propose to take. FC is not to be used as a bully pulpit or a recruiting ground.

If you feel it necessary to respond to this, please note that public discussions of staff decisions are not permitted and could earn you a warning point. Feel free to contact me with a PM. Thanks for your cooperation.

April has passed. No batteries?
@Hopper Labs can you please give us some update on this?

And, how's it going with warranty work (other than 'we're almost all caught up' which clearly is not the case)?

I have 2 requests for service in now (17 months and 2 months old) and a 3rd og getting really hot back end. A fourth sitting in a drawer unregistered and not working since the days of pre-order. My Order history shows I've spent just under $1,000 with HL over the years, which I don't particularly regret since it was money that I knew was all speculative.

I have purchased my last back-up or spare Grasshopper. I've always liked the idea of supporting the startup, the innovators in their pursuit of the perfect vape. At this point I'm more offended by the now years-long policy, which holds that survival of the company is paramount. They argue that survival is the only way to ever achieve the dream - which is true - but now the dream is... a different vape? Really?

I will continue to wait patiently and see if HL ever comes back to actually supporting the Grasshopper again.
In the meantime, my VAS is being satisfied just fine with other products. Heck, I've purchased 4 vapes during the 17 months HL has not delivered on 1 warranty repair (they have tried twice, but sent me bodies that were dysfunctional both times).

I see that I've been repetitive in this thread, as it's gotten so quiet these last couple of months, so I'll back off for a while, at least until something "happens" that warrants a news flash from me.

A bully pulpit or recruiting ground? This company is violating the law and it is very much within my rights to let other consumers know as much. Take a look at the BBB and number of complaints against them. Take a look at Reddit and this Forum. I don't know if you are on the payroll or are a fan of this company but they are not out for the best interest of their customers and I will continue to let people know.

You are allowed one post to describe your issue. This has been explained to you already. Warning point issued.
All I was doing was giving the facts about dealing with Grasshopper Labs. I was not slandering or giving any false information, just the facts based on my dealings with the company. There is obviously a tie between FC and Grasshopper Labs, probably why they only post here instead of Reddit now. Grasshopper has gone to great lengths to silence anyone who has negative things to say about dealings with their company. Look at any of their social media, all comments are turned off. I'm not being a dick, I'm just telling the truth about a terrible company that is literally stealing money from their customers. I was an original backer and my original hopper still works fine, my problem is with the fact that this company has taken "pre-order" money from their customers multiple times and not come through with products. This is the cheap way of taking out a loan from their customers instead of going to the bank to do it the right way. It would be one thing if they delivered on any of these products in a timely manner but some of the "pre-orders" are YEARS old with no end in sight. Not only that, but they have consistently delivered sub-par service on a "lifetime warranty", keeping peoples products for months to years. This is all totally unacceptable and criminal. Call me what you will but I'm just trying to get out the facts of my experience so that other potential customers know what they are getting into.

@onebigbillybob I think there are very few people, if any, posting in this thread that aren’t already aware of the frustrations and challenges you bring up related to HL. I bought one cheap. It works. I feel I’m lucky in that regard. I haven’t bought an io because I am happy with the one I have and I am more than willing to let others be first adopters on this new one. A busted GH is a bummer, but there are rules of decorum that keep the entire site from devolving into a gripefest. Just play nice and if you have another vape you can use maybe go take the edge off.

I hesitate to dip my toes in this water but I don’t care at all what the Better Business Bureau thinks about Hopper Labs or any other company.

https://money.cnn.com/2015/09/30/news/better-business-bureau/index.html

Meet some of the companies the Better Business Bureau rates among the best in the country.

A mortgage broker charged by federal regulators with discriminating against minority borrowers. A financial firm accused in an ongoing federal lawsuit of preying on seniors. A medical testing company that settled charges of paying kickbacks to doctors. And a vitamin maker that allegedly misled parents with claims that its supplements could treat symptoms of autism.

All of these companies boasted the BBB's coveted A+ rating when CNNMoney started investigating the BBB's rating system earlier this year. (Soon after CNNMoney inquired about these grades to the BBB, all but one were changed).

And this group is joined by other questionable businesses, many of which pay thousands of dollars to the BBB each year for membership. Some even have founders or former CEOs facing years behind bars. Meanwhile, respected Fortune 500 companies, like Microsoft and Starbucks, don't pay the organization's membership fees and are among the BBB's lowest-rated companies.
