Holidaze Sales 2019: Whatcha Gonna Do?

I got a sticky brick jr. and wpa from SBL on black Friday. First bowl no combustion, this thing is great! I’m about to take the restrictor plate out and lose the training wheels... pray for me.
I tried no disc initially with my og Brick but I'm a dedicated disc user now. Combustion was always more of a risk without it and I can get get much bigger rips and faster extraction with it in. Sounds counterintuitive but I've read others say the same thing.

Did you get an og Brick? Got the disc in? That made all the difference for me. I keep the included Honest torch a tad high and get big smooth hits every time.
Junior. With the disc in it tastes like wax and doesnt even produce vapor, even with the flame shoved in the intake, so no and I dont plan on using it as tasting that means it's adding unsavory compounds to the vapor which kind of defeats the purpose I switched to vaping for.

Earthling flora is... fascinating.
I only got the two Ms this year, mostly because I went all out with a Switch purchase and a good few games. Then I saw the Simrell sale... Do I regret it? No. But I'm definitely going to be putting away a 4/20 fund this time around.
Ugh, I wanted a simrell and a futostash so bad, too. Being a broke grad student is the pits. There were too many sales and not enough money!

Edit: No special stem for me :cry::cry::cry:

I have the Vortex and it's fine but not a game changer. I have an Omni and an Omni XL too and if the 2019 M is close at hand I'm fine using that. Even the difference between the stainless and ti tip is more of a preference thing than a clear winner. The ti heats and cools quicker and my Omnis are less tight than my Ms but the stainless tip holding heat makes it fun on the induction heaters because I have time to get two decent hits instead of just one big one.

The only area where I dramatically prefer the Omni is cleaning because the M's silicone rings move around for me too much when I'm putting the condenser back in.

Team NO SLEEP!
Of those, which do you use the most?

I've tried others, but ALWAYS go right back to my Omni... I've been thinking I was missing out on the Vortex and relieved to hear it was not a tremendous game changer.

I probably use the XL the most but will grab any of the ti ones because I'm always feeling fancy. I want the Omnis to get that carb cutout like the M.

[snip] Roughly how long ago did you pick up the piece?

Thx for mentioning the thermal shock consideration. How are you envisioning getting a hydratube hot before pouring cold water? What scenarios do I need to be careful of? (I'm going to ask about thermal shock in glass on the glass thread).

Thx!
Sorry for delayed response, I've not been here a lot lately...

I acquired the Swiss Tree hydratube from stevenlmz79 in Jan 2018. Hey, it's not a beautiful as the pieces at VXH's website but it performs the same and it's only $40! Minor imperfections really.

As to difficulty in cleaning, consider that the unit is designed to keep water from exiting through the bottom, and water is meant to be kept in the top chamber - to prevent water from the top chamber from accidentally getting into the EVO. When cleaning, you have to turn the unit upside down and right-side up a few times in addition to shaking to hit every nook and cranny. It's a little different to clean since it's not like a normal WP where the stem is above the water line...

As to thermal shock, when using the HT if you let it rest on top of the EVO the body of the HT will get hot. After your use you just don't want to immediately rinse or clean the HT out without letting it cool off. If you use the EVO with claisen adapters and silicon tubing through a normal WP (a normal WP with an have upright joints) it's easy to not be aware of this!

A few more thoughts:
  • Using a HT for multiple sessions: I've noticed that if you let the HT base get hot, it tends to "leech" water from the top chamber to the bottom. I can have an AM session, and later in the day when I dig out the HT there will be water in the bottom chamber. I tested this by removing the HT between hits and did not notice very much liquid at the base of the HT at the next session. So I usually remove the HT between hits.

BTW I usually change my water daily.

  • Don't ever blow into the mouthpiece of a HT as you will blow the water from the top chamber into the bottom chamber!

Cheers!

Picked up a DynaCoil and new Ti tip. Been curious how the DynaCoil performs, would be nice for my camping trips.

Also picked up a new Quartz Pi cap, its crushed opal over Cobalt. Can't wait for it to come in!
