Definitely. That's functional and very tidy.

As promised here's the Rustic version of Bloke's ss core halogen Misty.

It's a Rustic apple blank but the internals are pretty much all Misty.
The heat's produced by a 10w halogen bulb. That's held within a heater cover made from 11mm x 0.3mm ss tubing (that Bloke sent me ). The rest of the build is as per standard resistor/cartridge log. I put one screw into the base well wall to take a couple of loops of wire for heat dissipation which seems to be ample. The body of the log gets warm but not hot and I can hold my finger on the connector without any discomfort.

It runs off a basic 2a PSU which is a big plus. A dimmer is probably advisable. Without it the halo runs at - for me - the high end of the temp range and that's with a long extension lead.

I'd certainly reccommend the halo build. They're perfectly viable logs and highly distinctive.

This one's the first of a trinity of apple Rustics from the same branch.
There's a cartridge and a resistor unit in the works.

The Rustic design fits the halo core just great. I'm a sucker for those orange yellow woods anyway, like cherry, apple or plum

Simple solution for closing up a Log's base well:

26 mm base well
24 mm standard wine cork
25 mm silicone hose, to cut a ring from




Easy to set in and remove; air tight; and quite neat and unobstrusive looking.

Edit: would set in the corks directly, but sadly the inexpensive wine corks are a tiny bit too small for that with only 24mm diameter. Hence the silicone ring

Good job there, Bloke .
I like that method of threading the wires through the nut prior to soldering so that the connector can simply be push-fitted into the log and then secured in place with the nut.
The simplest solutions are often the best .

After finishing this apple halogen unit I made these glass stem WPAs for it.
They're made from local plum (just to keep things fruity ) and the glass came from a set of
coloured glass drinking straws.

The primary concern here, of course, was to ensure that the curtains match the carpet .

The straws have an OD of 10mm which is ideal for the heater cover's ID and provides a snug fit.
I cut the green one with a dremel and the amber one with a diamond file. Both methods work well
but the dremel has a longer setting up time so would be better suited to making batches.
From one straw you get two WPA stems and one dd stem.

I list the parts I can find from Amazon UK, though you can probably find more local and convenient sources..

First you need fitting wood for the body. I personally use readily turned wood for handrails, I get locally here. Here is a fitting beech rod from Amazon, though beech is not the nicest looking wood. I usually go for a 40mm diameter.

Then you need stainless steel capillary tubing for the heater cover. It needs a minimum of 9,5mm inner diameter, for the bulb to fit. I use 11mm OD/10mm ID tubing here, but can't find that at Amazon.

Then you'll need to find a fitting washer, to fasten the ss tube for the heater cover to. Should have a slightly smaller inner diameter, than the tube you'll use, so that the tube can be machined down a bit, to fit into the washer's hole.

That's basically it, already, apart from small stuff, like screws etc.

When I happened about the ceramic heater cartridge of me old, broken EQ... I just thought, why not rig up a DIY 'de Verdamper'... !?

Basically a vape, you can cobble together within 10 minutes and given the right heater, can put any EVO to shame
EQ heater has 7,5 ohm. The ceramic cartridge fits a 19mm male joint tube perfectly. The wiring has a glass fibre insulation, which can stand temps up to 400°C. No odor or taste so far here.
One lead is additionally insulated by a 7mm glass tube to keep the uninsulated contacts apart.
Silicone ring at the top for a handle is improvised, of course. Will make a cork collar for that, later on.

Used it with the @MUSA Vaporizer GonG and an ELB screen, 1/2 filled. Between 14V/25w and 15v/30w... this thing'll give you hell

I'm finally a couple of steps closer to making a log. The wood will be the Quince shrub I've been playing with. I have a 20W and 35W bulb and ceramic sockets for the little one. What was holding me up was the stainless tube. I ordered some large SS drinking straws for raw material and I also found this little device...

I have a similar unit and I am pretty sure the first silver element there is stainless, pre-slotted, flanged, and crimped... all in one go. And they are dirt cheap! It also has an interesting flame arrester and a ceramic cup that may be useful. Too bad it doesn't have that little ceramic catalytic converter in there.

Bud Eater v. 2.0

Used the 90° EQ whip adapter for a 'head' now and gave it a beech wood handle. Bit on the longish side, though

Heater is again the 20w bulb. Experimented with the 10w bulb I used in the Halo Misty, but found that it lacked a bit. With the 10w bulb, you can create basically a 'Bud Eater', that roasts slowly and steadily at 12v and can be used w/out a dimmer/temp controller.

The 20w bulb needs a temp controller, but offers more flexibility here for a bit more 'oompf!' and faster extraction. Usable range is between 8,5v and 10v here on the dial (10w to 14w).

Cool stuff! Where is the air intake ,did you poked a hole in the glass ? I had a similar build featuring a DBV heater cover but i broke is soon after it was made ).. I also like that you have added ss foil , 0.1mm is also what i use for mine it,the 316L makes rainbow colors when heat treated,i find it not only better for my eyes but also that it boost performance and u need less watts to get the job done than without it ).

I love all the creativity in this thread. Oh man, I would love to test them all out. The halo rustic log is awesome and beautiful, while the bud eater 2.0 looks really cool and doable for many people.
