Gear D-nail thread

I saw the Nimbus listed on D-Nail and took the plunge to see if D-Nail has stepped up their game. I'll be brief Yes they seriously stepped up their game.

So I grabbed a Mini Controller (the 100$) and the Nimbus with the Barrel Coil and the Quartz Dabber added a sapphire comet. This was 2 orders so the comet got here with 1-Day shipping (ordered Ordered it with the 1-day shipping they had the comets at my door at 11:00 Tuesday and the controller was delivered with the everything else the next day.

There was no box for the Nimbus nail it was wrapped in a cloth perfect condition; has the new slim line little different setup with the barrel coil. Based on the directions I got the idea that the lug nut goes underneath the dish to add support to the dish (I assume this is if you put any pressure on it it does not move or break) . I seem to have it running a little coil but with the barrel coil this works just great.

I do wish the Nimbus sat flat in the barrel coil but that is the point of the lug nut not really going to bother trying to stretch the coil to make me happy as I am.

They included a flat coil as well; quartz comets d-nail pin and ptfe adapter for the heat.

Base isn't as hot as the D-Nail SiC halo but that maybe because I only have it set to 510 on the controller and not higher?

P.S. They are emailing order confirmations manually however it is nice

No pictures attached as there isn't anything special with my setup likely; deep dish SiC Halo is a great analogy. Barrel Coil heats from the bottom and the sides so you can have a lower temp.

I saw these the other night, I was interested until I saw the coil DOUBLED the price of the entire setup......no thanks D-nail, $100 for the dish is 1 thing but another $100 EACH for a coil or a basic non worked carb cap isn't happening anymore, this is not 2011.

Im very curious as to how you have everything setup, Id love to see how the coil mates to the dish as you said it wasn't a flat seat, which lead me to think you maybe have it setup wrong, or that D-nail is still kinda retarded about their instructions. I know they love their slim series but really they should just build in a shelf for the coils to sit on (so we can stop fiddling with junky washers and then you can nut it down to flush, there is maybe a reason why its still after all this time not like that.

They do not include the large flat washer for the flat coil to sit on anymore, you are supposed to use the top fin of the heatsink as the 'shelf' for the coil. It does not hold very well and transfers heat even more quickly to the joint. Dnail finally sent me the washer after I complained about blowing out my dropdowns, I am still popping dropdowns but only on the cleaning cycle when I forget to lift it out of the joint slightly (5 in total now)
This one sounded like a .22 going off,

I have even resorted to a small piece of silicon on the wpa to try and help, it didn't:disgust:

You can use the flat washer if you want a shelf; personally I think that creates too much heat on the base based on my previous experience. I might try that as they added one it just seemed clumsy to try and put it in the bottom of the coil.

Maybe another day I'll whip out the camera and take a picture been busy with work today it sits fine; doesn't move or wobble or anything. Just without re-shaping the barrel coil it doesn't sit perfectly flat on it. Doesn't seem to make a difference as there is roughly 2 wraps around the coil heating it from the sides as well.

Regarding Retarded D-Nail instructions ... yeah they haven't really stepped up that game yet

240$ for just the Nail and the Coil with the Slim parts add 150$ for the Quartz dabber puts you at 390

However if you look at the Peak which I went to their site and looked at the prices and it suggested this recycler which puts the price tag at 690$

I'll try those Quartz comets sometime just enjoying some Hash Rosin on this really thankful I just picked up 5 grams yesterday.

Edit: I fail at quoting been so long since I used FC

Edit2: and yes I did get the big washer still I don't really think it needs it I could though

It never meet with much popular opinion but I run my Halos on the slim base with the 14F base on a m2m adapter (personally i think drop downs are ridiculous), it raises the height a bit depending on which m2m you go with but I promise you it works 50x better, the heat never hits your glass and the 14F is actually a direct inject setup also, which means much much cleaner usage then you'd think from adding the m2m into the mix

So the Nimbus seems to Torch clean just fine like SiC I am not the kind of person to get it glowing red hot just hot enough to get it to to run to ash so it can be wiped off.

Large flat washer isn't required if you use it it will transfer more heat to your glass; so just use the height lock that's the same as the one on the bottom for the top. I put the top one between the slim nail and the heater to not transfer as much heat to the nail. This does not seem proper (the right way) but it works for me.

Proper should be put the height lock underneath the Nimbus and then when screwing it into the height lock will be locking down the nimbus into the barrel coil. It does fit snug I don't say perfect but good enough to dab rosin at 465.

I hope they clean up the instructions to include how to do this as it only lists the regular Slim line setup with a regular coil.

Nimbus isn't even in a box right now; its wrapped up in cloth

P.S. Sapphire Comet pairs up amazing plows right through a rosin dab

That is the new way Dnail says to use it, that is why I never received the large washer to begin with, this was sent to help with my problems as that small washer just did not hold my Dnail double-decker flat coil heater very well(wobbles and wonky)
There are a few changes in the works at Dnail by the sound of it...all very interesting.

And @damm, just remember, do not flame that sapphire comet.:myday:

They shipped me a Barrel Coil and a flat coil so the flat washer would have been helpful if I used the flat coil.

Checkout the pictures on dnails etoric banger http://www.d-nail.com/etoric2828 it def would be a problem for you with your drop downs.

Team NO SLEEP!
So what is the ULTIMATE D-nail setup?

I certainly do not have the $$$$ to try them all...

Is the SiC, Saphire or Quartz going to be the best of the Halo offerings?
How does the eToric measure up against the traditional Halo?

I only have extensive experience with the SiC halo, and traditional quartz bangers.

@FlyingLow I’d say right now it would be the S-series with a sapphire Nimbus and either a quartz Channel cap with splash guard or a PB quartz Halo/Nimbus cap and 1 or 2 sapphire comets. E-Toric are also excellent if you want more of that banger experience. I can get some massive clouds from E-Toric but for taste/overall experience I prefer the Nimbus.

Best for your money is S-series with a built in SIC dish and SIN comets using your titanium universal cap.

The Sapphire Nimbus is similar to the Halo but it’s D-Nail V2. It has the same circumference but it’s almost twice as deep and semi-polished with more rounded corners.

The S-series is available now in a very limited quantity. I think they have 25 of them. DM D-Nail on IG to see if there are any left.

Are the above dishes the same diameter as the Vrod? Just curious.
I can't speak for the Sapphire Dishes as I don't have one; I do have the old Halo SIC Dishes as well as the new Nimbus and the only difference other than the decal saying D-Nail is the height.

Width is the same; so if you can handle the additional height you shouldn't have a problem using it with the exception of you will need to turn up your temp higher (about 30-35f) as the flat coil has to work harder to heat up all that surface area. If you had a regular D-Nail setup you could grab a barrel coil (28MM + Flat Coil) and have it cooler.

I totally admit the old Halo dishes are so tiny compared to the Nimbus I totally understand why I had splashing problems now

Was pulling the trigger on a Nimbus setup with one of those quartz "heat guards" but then the black friday sale doesn't cover the "beta" site and as much as I love d-nail, Im not dropping ~$300 on just a nail ever again, let alone something that is also, beta.

But i fully recommend someone else do it and report back!

I can absolutely appreciate how you feel. I was a little blown away of the price for my Nimbus setup it's slowly working on it's return of investment. If I had also purchased the S-Series on top of a Nimbus and Controller and Quartz Carb cap that would clearly set me back almost 710$ I think.

I would wait until the S-Series is out of beta they have done quite a bit of work on it and there are some people on IG who suspect the heat guard will be a problem. Having the Titanium base already I see this as beta testing their new assembly. Mixed feelings but if it gets me to using the Channel Cap I am will give it a go when I get it (and order the Channel Cap) . Waiting for Payday

Just a warning if you are going to torch clean your Nimbus SIC Dish be very careful as some parts of the nail heat up faster than other parts and you can whiten it by getting it too hot. Primarily torch the sides as torching the top side will heatup the center post faster than the rest of the dish. Take your time it is better to waste butane than break a 100$ dish that likely cost you a bit more than that to get it going.

If you don't think you can be careful and it'll be glowing cherry red I wouldn't advise it.
