Just tested the cartridge heater with the ceramic G4 bulb socket and it's a really neat solution :nod:

Looks great, similar to the e-nano ,i imagine it makes a seal at the bottom :).
I already mention this in our conversation ,but yeah diamond files are the best for cutting glass. Still have to take photos of my underwater cutting jig :D.. I am so paranoid about glass particles,that thing with the dremel looked like pure madness to me :D

... though just a few drops of water go a very long way there already ;)

Morning folks :wave:

Sunday morning boredom just produced another fitting glass roasting tube/dd stem with 10mm OD stainless steel tip for sliding into the new steel core Halo Misty's core :clap: :science:

The ss tip is fastened to the 10mm OG glass tube with a short silicone sleeve, which is folded over to produce a simple WPA, sealing in 14mm joints :)
Another great idea form @Alan again, which I modified a bit, to join steel and glass together. Snug fit is essential here, and it works best using 8mm/12mm ID/OD high temp silicone tubing here for joining the 10mm OD steel & glass pieces.

Also makes for a nice twin to the all glass 10mm OD direct draw stem, that I also updated with the folded over sleeve :nod:

The all glass 10mm dd stem's bowel is 7mm in diameter, holding as much, as a typical 5/16" or 8mm stainless steel tip does, which is used for the non-halogen powered resistor/cartridge driven Mistys.

The new glass dd stem's 10mm OD stainless steel tip has a bowel of 9mm diameter, holding a bit more, than a Vapcap tip.

Both stems have adjustable basket screens.

While we're both waiting for the additional 11mm ss tubing to arrive (ordered, payed for, but sadly still not shipped yet), I found another old beta body, that could be salvaged and reworked :D

It's oak, has the wide 30mm heater well and its with just 8cm hight a bit on the stubby side... but I guess, it would make a beautiful Mini Halo Misty for you, that can go with the tubing, when it eventually arrives :cool:
Heater goes in from the bottom in this body, but as the oak holds the threading quite well, I can also probably forgoe the washer/hexnut arrangement, that usually holds the heater in place then and screw it directly into the wooden threading, I cut before :)

If all works out as planned, it will probably only a need a single drop of solder and two screws, to hold it all together :science:

I've already cleared a mini space for it on my desktop :D and look forward to giving it a thorough testing :nod:

Got another halo glass core build on the go. Drilled a 14/14 male/male adapter this afternoon. 4 X 3mm holes for air intake and two to take a short section of 3mm diameter wooden kebab skewer that'll stop it from falling out when the log's turned upside down. Will try to get a picture up tomorrow. This was my second time of drilling glass with a diamond bit. It went much easier than the first. The jig works really well and the syphoned water stream both cools the glass and bit and surpresses glass dust.

Great pic of the Misty family and friends :).

A mini space is sufficient :D It's a tiny one... in a funny way it's so minimalistic, it's build from almost nothing, or rather just a handful of parts :rofl:
Bulb, plug, piece of steel tubing, a washer and a stick of wood. Add to that two tiny cable shoes to serve as a socket for the bulb, the debris screen with the ss fine mesh pad, a single drop of solder and two screws... that's it! :clap:

Used a 20mm OD M10 washer for the first time in this one, to fasten to the 11mm tube. That way, the washer has no longer contact to the inner wall of the heater well, which reduces conduction to the wood and avoids the problem of the wood shrinking against the washer and then not being able to pull the heater cover out again for repairs.
Granted, big washer the size of the heater well might look sturdy and soliid, but this minimalistic solution here is more practical.

Works quite well, that little oak loggie :nod:
Just burned it in for a couple of hours :D

Looking forward to the pics of your new halo glass heater cover :)

That looks like another stunning halo Misty @blokenoname ! I know it will be well tested and loved in @brainiac s Brainy lodge!

I have been absolutely loving my Misty Halo! It's tiny, gorgeous and it hits like a beast! I am running it at 11.5v at the moment and the slide in glass stem is just awesome! The fact that it also take 10mm OD tips as well makes it massively versatile, for either straight dry microdoses to massive rips through water! I can see this being my daily driver for quite some time!

Partially yes. I think they call it jade. It's a 14/14 male/male 'gourd' adapter. Drilled for air inlets and for that retaining kebab skewer :). I've inserted a cherry WonG and you can see there's about 5mm between the ss tip and the coloured area where the bulb will go. The 10w may not be enough with glass? but I've got 20 and 25w to try out.

I ordered a AroMed replacement halogen bulb to go into my all glass vase vaporizer that I created. The company canceled my order and refunded me. So out of curiosity, Is there a difference in AroMed halogen bulbs and a off the shelf halogen bulb? Are they all safe to use in our creations? If you have a link to a safe to use halogen bulb, This would be helpful. The replacement bulbs seem to be out of stock.

I use the Osram Halostar Starlite 12v series. 1o pack of the 10w or 20w bulbs costs about € 12,- here. I use the ones with a G4 socket. You've to check, what socket you need for yours.

Well... the glass and its low conductivity is one thing. Another one is, that when you situate the bulb within that bulky colored midsection of the adapter, it will have a lot of air to heat up, flowing over the heater. Frankly I've no idea, if the tiny 10w bulb can manage that. In the Halo Mistys, I've a 9mm diameter bulb sitting in either a 10mm ID steel or glass tube, leaving just 1/2 a millimeter all around, for the air to pass by.

You'll just have to test that out.

So... this should have been the last of the old beta unit bodies now, with the 30mm heater well. Bottom of said heater well looked like a moonscape, from all the different heater covers I screwed in there over the course of a year. So I covered that up with a flat disk of cork.
You can tell that it's one of the earlier bodies by the scorch marks in the heater well, a too fast drilling Forstner bit left :p
Also refined the DIY sockets for the bulb a bit.

Ruined a blank due to the heater well being seriously off center, after you finished drilling!?

€ 29,99 belt sander to the rescue! Just rotate the little bugger on the sandpaper, till it's conical and the heater well centered again :rofl:

The belt sander's made a good job of rescuing that blank and the conical shape looks great :tup:.
Different connector? Any particular reason or just what you had lying around?

My original ideas for securing the glass HC within the body of the log for the halo unit need some refinement so I'll make a fresh start on that at the weekend. Trial, error, :hmm:, repeat :).
