I'm more worried about long term survival of these alternative services.

Well, you hit the nail right on the head, and, as I said earlier :

What if tinypic doesn't work in 2 years ?

Guess what, tinypic is shutting down.
So, I guess all the images I've uploaded in the past year to this forum will be erased.
Lovely.
I tried using photobucket for now, but they NOW have a very low limit on amount of images you can store, AND they have a horrible watermark on the images now.
So, looking for alternatives.
I saw someone said postimage works well, so I'm trying that, now.

The problem is, when will postimage disappear ?

I know it's a time-consuming pain in the arse, but I would suggest copying all your images from the soon-to-be defunct site over to a new hosting site just in case you need to refer to those images again. Better to have than not. I just hope that it wasn't FC hosting that was the straw that broke tinypic's back.

I always keep a copy of anything I post so that is unnecessary. It would be nice if we could repost them elsewhere and change the link on the post, but no changes after 6 hours or so.
Again, the only real solution would be what VA does, host the images ourselves.

Same here, I'm gutted. We chose the wrong horse apparently... bummer!

But it happened so many times in the past already... and image hosting is a dead-end business. Who needs that when you have FB, Instagram and the like, where everything is self-hosted. Even Reddit finally got its official service so there's no warranty imgur will not meet the same fate as all others before.

I have zero interest in FB or Reddit and even less interest in getting all their crap in my email. Just not a social networking kind of guy. I go out of my way do reduce my internet footprint, I'm sure as hell not going to make it easier to be profiled.

OK
I've some to the solution that I came to years ago with FC forum...
In the past, in the long long ago, I used to host my images on my own web-space.
I run some sites so I have an FTP account, which I doubt will disappear very soon, and, I've used that in the past....
I had the ridiculous thought that in the event I lost my hosting, at least my images would remain thru (1st) imgur, (then) tinypic, now postimage.
For those of you who have no web-space, and do not want to pay a monthly fee to host your own images, there are a few solutions.
I'm not sure if Google drive images work here or not... but there are some free cloud services out there... like mediafire, with 10gb of free cloud storage, and others. However, again, who knows how long they will survive ?
There's also 000webhost, which gives you a free FTP account that can store 1GB (if you know how to use an FTP client).
For myself, I suppose I trust my hosting company to survive (digital ocean/namecheap) for quite a while, but one can never be certain.
The images I self-hosted 4 years ago are still on FC forum today, which is more than I can say for ALL my imgur and tinypic images.
My posts are gonna look like crap, now.
Shame.
This is all really due to imgur's policy against us, something that has upset me almost enough to not use imgur, almost.
Consider getting an FTP account if you host a large amount of images for FC Forum and every other forum/chat/postings elsewhere as well.

Yes but only until those asshole Big Brother corporations decide it is about time to delete your account without any legitimate reason as does seem to happen left right and centre, certainly with Instagram anyway although I'm sure Facebook is different in that regard.

Still very reliant and dependent though is the point I'm making I think. I mean I'm definitely not banking on all of my photos on Instagram still being there in 5 or 10 years time.

Meh. All my past imgur pics are still on FC. It just takes about three clicks to see them, instead of one...and it's the same to see other people's imgur pics. It's not ideal, and I don't upload to imgur anymore...but it still works just fine.

I find IMGBB.com to work well and easy.
As we know, the base issue is that FC doesn’t directly host images despite the low cost of storage these days and MIA Vtac ain’t around to change it and frankly I doubt he’d spend a nickel on this if he was.

While I agree that it is frustrating that the powers that be are set against FC doing it's own hosting, I have to say that I greatly appreciate the fact that they provide this newsgroup for us at no cost and moderate it effectively to keep it from becoming the cesspool that unmoderated forums seem to become. While, if the issue were one of cost I am sure many would be willing to kick in a bit in return for local hosting, I suspect the reasons are not really cost.
Whatever the reasons are, for me the lack of local hosting will/does not drive me away. I like it here.

A quick web search says FC is worth over US$100,000 and generates nearly US$80,000 a year so I think the owner could afford it without our help.:myday:
I didn't want to go there but yes....my understanding is that the site generates revenue. This ain't just a gift to us....although I do love FC, the mods (most of the time! haha) and the members.

I for one would be happy to pay a few bucks per month for a subscription here if it would make FC better.

Also, the paywall would both give us more privacy, as well as helping to cut down on shit-posters.

Excuse me,
Don't know where else to test this......

I'm going to test Mediafire.com versus my own hosting, don't mind me..

Here's from Mediafire.com hosting with 10gb free storage:

And here's from my own hosting :

It seems fairly clear from the draft that Mediafire.com isn't working.

Let's see how that looks after a posting.

EDIT:
Well, it's pretty clear what I'll be using from now on.
Postimage works great, just not sure how long they'll stay afloat.
Again, I trust my ability to pay the bills and keep my files online more than I do any image hosting company.

Cheers !
(By the way, this is a shot of a Wismec rx2 20700 mod. I use this with the Sai and the V4, both excellent devices for concentrates.)

Ah ok thanks.
I had remembered there was a place for image testing, but couldn't find the thread.

I'll have to check out mediafire's capabilities.
However, I've decided to just use my own hosting.
Can't trust mediafire to stay online for another few years.
I CAN trust my ability to pay my bill monthly however.

(edit) Looks like I'll have to update my signature pic url's......
