Here is a photo of my Woodscents. This is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing vape I've ever seen.

Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous!

I'm still feeling this vape out and learning what works best for satisfying hits. Been doing a lot of experimentation with bowl size, pack method, and heat setting. I'm not getting totally consistent results yet, but the unit clearly medicates very efficiently and I've achieved some solid clouds with it. Plus, the initial flavor hit is outstanding. I've mainly been living in the 6-8 range on the dial so far.

I've had a little bit of difficulty getting the tips to fit perfectly in the stem (it's a pretty tight fit and the o-rings tend to slide out of place), and also trying to dial in the stem placement on the heater. It seems my various tips all fit a bit differently. One of them sits on the heater quite loosely, while another will totally lock into place if you give it a push. I love that secure feel when hitting it, but it's difficult to remove between hits/sessions (have to grab it by the tip, which is obviously too hot). I usually try to give it a gentle nudge onto the heater so it's secure enough, but doesn't get stuck.

One consistent result is how stunned I am by the design & aesthetic of my Woodscents every time I pick it up and use it. It's truly a work of art. Definitely feeling a strong connection to it every time I fire it up. Simply holding it, especially once it has a chance to heat soak, is oddly satisfying. Overall, I'm pretty sure this one is gonna be sticking around for a while.

PS - I took a minute to condition the wood with some bomb ass butter this evening. Looking good!

A loose pack in the bowl with a medium fine grind seems to work best in my limited experience. Don't pack it to where the heater touches the load. Not sure what 6-8 on the dial equates to but I am typically around 11.3V.

With regards to the tip fitting into the stem, try rubbing some of the bomb ass butter onto the o-rings. When placing the tip onto the stem, gently twist while pushing. If this doesn't work, I'm sure Ed will make it right for you. He is in the middle of a move right now according to IG...just an FYI.

Woodscents are really nice to look at. Glad to hear you're enjoying yours.

Well, I'm starting to find the sweet spot with this thing. Packed it so the filter disc meets the load when I place the stem on the heater, but not so full that it gets tamped down a bunch. I also switched back to the tip that came with my WS. That one fits loosely on the heater, which makes it much less secure, but also easier to handle since it doesn't get stuck on the unit. Performance also seems better. Perhaps this is the intended fit. The tip from my Omni is much tighter. Guessing it's just tolerance differences. I saw other people were having the same issue earlier in the thread. Anyone else care to weigh in on stem fit?

Anyway, I did that, and had my unit set around 7.5 on the dial. First hit was sublime. Big clouds, amazing taste, and not harsh at all. Definitely the best rip I've pulled from this thing to date. Subsequent hits were also great.

It took me like 15 minutes to finish this post. I'm really digging my Woodscents so far!

I have around 9 tips now from trying to find a second tip that fits as well as one of my gen 4's but they are all a bit wobbly compared, so I have no answer except the S/S 2018m tip works as a nice fit...until it gets hot(on my units anyway)
I have also heard that a too tight a fitting(rare) tip can be honed out a little for a nice custom fit, unfortunately, all but one of my tips are quite wobbly so I cannot adjust them for a nicer fit.

Interesting... I tried my 2018 M tip, and it was also tight.

I think all tips have slight variations that may cause this fitment issue. The Ti Tip that came with my WS package is a tight fit and gets hung up sometimes and I have to wobble it out. My first gen ti tip, 4th gen ti tip and all my M tips fit and spin with ease.

Is there any fix to adjusting the position of the heater without sending it in to Ed? Mines a bit off center, kind hangs to the left or right depending on how you look at it haha. I hope its not my eyes lol

Just a quick pop in yall, doing remaining 2018 model WS at a significant discounts if anyone is interested get at me by PM or email. Know I have a few walnut, few maple, few curly maple, few African mahogany, even have a show stopper burl or two I think as well. Need to move em, out with the old in with the new.

Simply based on our experience with the 2019M, we know that there are variances even between the same model of tips. It wouldn't shock me if adjustments were made from each generation of tips making them fit slightly differently. It would seem odd if there were variances in the OD of the heater stem. I think the best move in this situation is just to use the tip that Ed includes in the package as those definitely fit well. It's possible that Ed gets those made specific for his WS so as to avoid variations from Dynavap.

For what it's worth, I have over 10 tips and I concur that not all tips fit the same. I'm currently using 2018M shadow tips without issue.

I just got some @DDave Ti and S/S mesh screens in the mail and I will confirm that they do reduce draw resistance compared to a CCD. The Ti weave is nice and wide to allow this.
I noted that 1 of the Ti screens looked a bit turned up around the edge so a tap with a hammer on a flat surface soon flattened it out completely and made for a very nice fit in the tip, it will not fall out by itself, that's for sure.
This mod is especially appreciated on a bong, so easy to pull now without having to clean/swap tips every day...it just stays clean!
These are actually a lot cheaper than a CCD too, so win, win.(you get 15 for the price of one CCD)
They are listed under VapCap accessories;

Much more testing to come.:myday:

Hi all. New owner here.

I'm trying to "learn" my new toy, but have gotten underwhelming results so far; wispy, light clouds (if any clouds at all), and poor heat retention in the heating element between pulls. This is almost certainly because I'm not using this to its full potential. Could you help me answer a few questions?

  1. Variable power input - I start getting decent clouds at 10. Should I just keep it there, if that is to my liking?
  2. Power source - I noticed the PSU is 12v 1A. I have a regulated bench power supply. Is there any benefit to feeding a Woodscents more voltage or current? (e.g. 12v 3A)?
  3. Packing load size - any tips on packing the flower material? Is there an optimal grind size? Screen position in a straight glass stem?
  4. Multiple consecutive pulls - Do I need to wait between pulls, to give the heating element time to reheat?
My goal is to see how hard I can push a Woodscents, and determine:
  • What is the hardest I can push this unit? (hardest I've experienced are butane vapes like a Stickybrick or dynavap)
  • What is the optimal way to use it, with the goal of producing the best vapor quality?

Thanks.

1. This is very subjective. You should definitely play with the VVPS settings. I keep mine around 11 - 11.4ish. If I remember correctly, Ed recommends not going past 14 on the VVPS. I will sometimes take mine up to 13.5 at heat up just to speeds things up but I've never gone past 12 for actual usage. I've seen folks comment that you can't get near combustion avb off of a WS w/o a VVPS and that has not been the case for me. If I take it to 12, the AVB gets very dark which is not my preference.

2. "Remember this is a 12V system, an adapter can be used with the WS power adapter or you may pick up your own 12V power adapter if it has a 2.1×5.5mm male connector. Also, be aware that the WS can be powered from any 12V power supply or even battery power from a vehicle and even by using a 4 x 18760 battery VVPS if you happen to have one for on the go out and about."

https://edstnt.com/woodscents-use-and-care

3. I have found that medium fine grind works best. I use the straw method to load and use the handle of my S&B brush to lightly tamp down the load. On a tip that is set to full size, I will load it about 60% full. If you load it to the point where the heater touches the material, it can result in a more restricted draw which will make it a little tougher to use.

4. I have never found the heater to need recovery time between pulls. What I find helps more is giving the unit plenty of time to come up to temp (~7 minutes) and while I'm doing that I heat soak the tip by resting it on the heater. I have all of my desktops connected to smart plugs. If I know I am going to sesh with one, I pull out phone and hit the button. Check back in 10 and we are good to go.

I think if you're trying to compare a Sticky Brick vape with a Woodscents (or any other log), you're going to be a little disappointed. Logs are more built for on-demand micro dosing or flavor chasing rather than cloud chasing. It can produce big clouds if you want it to but IMO, that's not where these shine. They shine in their ability to provide an obscene amount of pulls off of a small load whilst maintaining good flavor. The herb chamber on the WS (and other logs) are much smaller than the bricks making it nearly impossible to achieve the same cloud production off of one hit. Others my have a different opinion on this and ultimately there isn't a wrong or right way...just the way that works best for you.

According to Ed over 14volts will straight up damage the woodscents and void the warranty. Everything else is spot-on here! Personally I make my pulls at 13.0-13.2v.

@kent1146 I would highly recommend using the Ti tip over the glass with basket screen, if you aren’t already. I didn’t care for the straight glass at all. The Ti tip works much better. I pack it so there is room for the heater without tamping down the load too tightly. Some tamping is fine though and I think it helps with cloud production.

Heat soaking the tip before taking a hit is a good idea to try. Also, it seems like the unit benefits from an extended heat soak before use. I know it can get up to temperature fairly quickly, but I feel like the performance gets even better once it’s been on for 20+ minutes. I usually turn mine on a half hour before I want to use it and then leave it on for a few hours while seshing throughout the night. It never gets too hot and I find it very pleasing to hold a warmed up Woodscents in my hand.

I haven’t come close to combustion even at 10 on the dial. I usually start at 7 for flavor and then bump it up to 8-8.5 for more vapor. My AVB doesn’t even get very dark, but I’ve experienced that in other convection vapes too. I guess I would need a VVPS to get dark brown AVB, but I’m still getting full extraction even without the browning.

Hope this helps.

When you say full extraction, do you mean that you can turn up the temp to make avb darker and still get no vapor?

I used to call my avb done when it was a medium-dark brown, but when I started pushing temps up to get darker avb - very very dark brown, just short of charring - I noticed different, more sedative effects. Sort of how people describe the edibles made out of "spent" avb. Obviously not everyone is looking for that, but really unless you are getting those temps then I don't see how it could be a truly full extraction.

Sure, I guess I should say the extraction is “good enough” for me. Even though the bud isn’t super brown when I’m done, vapor production becomes minimal and the flavor is totally gone. Most importantly, I’m where I want to be.

My point is that AVB color is not the sole indicator of extraction level, at least in my experience. I’m getting just as much out of it as I would with my Omnivap, even though the bud isn’t getting quite as dark. But, I suppose YMMV. There are a ton of variables at play.

I'm with @letter never sent .

I don't care for the sliding basket screens in the straight glass stem(s) at all. I only use the Dynavap tips any more with my Woodscents. I use the dynavap tips mostly with the two included wood stems, but I also use them with glass stems occasionally as well.

And I usually run mine between about 9 and 10 on the standard dimmer dial controller that comes standard with the Woodscents (I've never owned a VVPS). I've never found satisfying vapor anywhere below 8.5. So, I should probably invest in a VVPS so that I can overclock mine like the rest of the cool kids here :spliff:

This ^^^^^^ is exactly what I find with my Woodscents too, and pretty much exactly how I use it.

My first dimmer cable which came with the WS was one of the small first batch that were faulty (which Ed quickly replaced for everyone).
But the replacement, although it seemed to work properly, still seemed a little under-powered for clouds, even at 'full throttle' so I got myself a variable tattoo power supply (from Banggood or Deal Extreme, can't remember exactly where now).
Somewhere between 10.5 and 11.5 is my sweet spot too.
Although it's in my rotation my WS doesn't get as much use as my portables.
This isn't because it doesn't perform as well as, or better than the portables, but because my living-room layout puts the WS at serious risk from 'cable-yank floor-smash', so I only use it when I'm alone in the room, and can relax knowing that my precious is reasonably safe!
I find 20 minutes long enough for great performance right off the bat, and rarely leave my WS on after a session, which I enjoy two or three times an evening.
Re-heating for the subsequent sessions is usually a little quicker after the first one (maybe 10-15 minutes on average?), but this will depend heavily upon how long you leave between sessions.

Definitely get a vvps, I found mine made a big difference.

I won't add any other advice as I'd just be repeating what flammy and others have advised above.

I've been loving this thing through water recently. The hits are so smooth and it's so simple and fun to use. I only have a Sneaky Pete globe right now, which feels a little small for the WS, so I have another piece from Sneaky Pete on the way (his Buzz Honeycomb bubbler). I think it will be a bit more ergonomic and I won't have to hold the piece in my hand to hit it.

I'm still in the honeymoon phase with this vape, but it really feels like an "endgame" unit for me. I don't know why I waited so long to get a log. Really suits my style perfectly. This thing + Dynavap is a great combo to have!

I doubt you would ever need a spare for breakdowns but the second unit is great for temperature stepping.
What species do you have and on order?

My first Woodscents is Mexican Katalox (here's a couple of pics from when I first acquired it):

@Ed's TnT had a decent discount on the only 2018 models he had left, a couple of domestic Maple. I scooped one of those. I'll see it's pretty face soon enough.

He may still have one left at a really good price, if you're in the market.
