LOL, I struggled with the same. I honestly found it odd that this was not a part of the included instructions. From what I understand, it can actually be inserted either way. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. This said, I use mine with the negative end down.

Not getting any heat coming out of the Milaana! The battery tests at 3/4 out of a full charge... Hmmm....??? Bad battery?

When inserting the battery into the Milaana, should the top-side (positive end) be facing down? Sorry for such a newbie question!

I’m about to find out the hard way if this doesn’t get answered soon! HA!!

Yes it doesn't really matter, but it is recommended to do negative end up, so you don't risk tearing the wrapping on the positive end sliding the brass contact over it too much...

btw new batteries should always be charged full and then another 4 hours if possible... that wouldn't affect the poor performance though so it must be something else make sure the contacts are tight

That's great to know. Thank you.

EDIT: That makes so much sense after thinking about it. Definitely negative up now.

Gotta scratch an itch here.

The hole on the Mi2 (or any Mi) isn't really a carb. It's an air intake. It allows air to be moved from point A (in this case, air drawn in from outside the vaporizer) to point B (in this case, our lungs). In the middle of that air path, there's a heater that (ideally) has heated its contents enough to produce vapor that can join in the the air flow and move its way down the air path into our lungs.

Covering the air intake does indeed effect the flow of air. But I would recommend against covering that hole too convincingly. If you do, where's the air you're breathing into your lungs coming from? With the air intake unobstructed, the air path of the Mi 2 is clean as far as contact with electronics and glues is concerned (cleaner than prior versions, and that's where the upgrade with the new position of the intake is truly found). But if you cut off that clean air path, all bets are off. Who knows where the air you're breathing has been.

But back to the whole 'carb' thing. A carburetor regulates the flow of air during the process of combustion. It feeds (or restricts) airflow to the site of combustion and therefore enhances (or reduces) combustion. A combustion style bong might have a carb. When it's covered, an increase in the air flow from outside the site of combustion is added to the site of combustion as it is pulled through. Therefore, the fire burns hotter and produces more smoke.

Adding air to the airflow on a Milaana does the opposite. It cools off the heater, and lowers the rate of vapor production. Unless of course you've created such an amount of heat in the heater that even a high level of air flow can't counteract the heat produced by the battery. Stopping the airflow to the heater by cutting it off (by covering the intake) can produce combustion, but not because it's adding fuel to the fire, but because it's restricting the flow of cool air to counterbalance the heat produced by the battery.

So now I feel better. The Mi's have air intakes, not carbs.

Air is a gaz, it expands and contracts. As soon as you stop drawing it will expand back to fill the whole cavity, so it's always in contact with "electronicS and glues". But there's no electronics per se inside, just a switch and silver plated electrode wires... and the HSA heater of course.

If you block the intake you're just creating a vacuum and that's all (provided the thing is really completely air-tight) Then fresh air is drawn back inside as soon as you remove your mouth or your finger.

As for the glue... well I think this has been discussed ad nauseam at this point...

As for the glue...

My glass joint dislodged with my Mi 2 early on. I was using silicone to help hold a smaller stem into the joint and the added wiggling and what not when removing and inserting the stem eventually broke the seal. I stopped using the smaller stem and everything settled back in on its own and hasn't loosened again. I didn't mean to be commenting on any glue issue. But seeing the care taken with the Mi 2 with regard to the seal for the joint and comparing that with how the intake on my Mi 1.5 is right in the area of that seal, I consider the new position of the intake to be a design enhancement, and not because it can be used to adjust airflow, but just because it's completely removed from the area of the joint.

(provided the thing is really completely air-tight)

It's not air tight, that's the thing. The air is coming in, but not through its intended pathway.

Hm... so there's an imperfect seam somewhere and you think that "carbing" possibly forces more air to travel through that defect, getting more contact with the nearby adhesive? If that's the case, then yes that makes sense indeed!

@KeroZen I'm just suggesting that on some devices a carb hole has a useful and practical function. An air intake has one too, especially if it's the only one around. I'll keep the intake on my Mi 2 open. :peace:

Is it okay to leave the Milaana copper lid clamped down to the battery while not in use (for example, pick off to the side)?

Just started using my Milaana OG today! This thing is killer!! Wow! Where has it been all my life????? :)

Definitely wouldn't suggest doing that. Always best to have the battery removed or contact to the battery removed just to be safe. Buttons get stuck whether it be on a manual vape like the Mi or a box mod for the Splinter.

Always be safe with 18650s. They were never intended for our use from the manufacturers of these batteries. They don't want them used as bare cells. They are intended to be installed and to not be removed. I feel like the vaping industry has changed this and there are manufacturer(s) that are now catering toward the ecig vaping community, but not any of the major manufacturers.

^ above is correct, that being said I typically leave mine in when not in use. You just need to be sure to situation where the button cannot be pressed accidentally, lying on its side on a table is usually okay when you know nothing is going to move for example. To be safe you shouldn't leave unattended, but I do that too, its whatever you are comfortable with. Safest option is above, but its not always the most convenient, and sometimes not entirely necessary.

My Milanna is still not working with 2 new batteries - please check my work and verify if I have missed something. *Deep breath*

I ordered 2 Samsung 25R batteries from Walmart.com, but the ones that showed up looked different than the pics I see in that link. Probably knockoffs, just like every single battery I've ever ordered from Amazon or the internet in general.

I still can't get the Milaana to produce any heat. I've charged both batteries and tried each, both + and - sides up, and I'm not getting any heat nor flavor from the milaana. Metal in chamber stays cold to the touch.

Looks like it's making contact to me!

Just to confirm, both batteries work just fine in the Vapwood Lil Bud Elite, and I haven't gotten a "weak battery" message yet (and he'd flash it at 75% battery life with that purple Arizer battery, so this one SEEMS ampier / stronger).

Maybe my batteries are non--spec'd knockoffs, but they work in 2 of my other portables. I think I have a defective Milaana. Maybe it's my green batteries, but if the Milaana is indeed super finicky about which batteries it takes, why wouldn't just pair the needed model of battery with the vape at purchase?

Sorry for the length and the rant, but I've been staring at a pretty wooden paper weight for the last 2 weeks.

Is my unit defective?

it's hard to tell if the heater is working and maybe the techniue is off? try pressing and holding the battery button without a stem in it ... while holding the button in ... blow through the small carburetor hole above the button and see if you can feel warm air coming out of the area you put the stem in. good luck!

Yeah it wouldn't be that finicky even if they were knock off if they were working there I think... Though yeah you should buy batteries from reputable sources btw. Reach out to vgoodiez and he'll help you get sorted

Any sign of Ryan lately? He's fallen off regular Instagram.

He doesn't use it anymore, he's simplified and went back to here, but he is also not a point of contact for service of new units. Now the retailers are, vgoodiez has an Instagram presence

Did you get your Milaana from @VGOODIEZ ?? I’m sure he’s more than happy to help you figure this out...Give that a try and let us know how it goes.

If that cell works with vapes with similar cell specs, it should work with your Mi 2 (it does with mine, but I get them from a somewhat reliable source). Something inside might not be connected properly. I'd message @VGOODIEZ. Hope you get it online soon and to hear your thoughts once you do.

EDIT: Well only a handful of wise folks beat me to it!

Thanks for the tips fam, I shot Vgoodiez an email at the crack of dawn, and Scott responded within the hour. It sounds like we're going to arrange to ship my unit in and have them take a look. May the Vape Gods grant me reprieve!

PS: I think it really is my unit... the green Walmart batteries work really well in the Lil Bud Elite - its toasting the bowls faster more consistently and evenly than the Arizer battery did.

i have to say, politics/scenarios aside, the LB, and now i see the LB elite as well, sure look like home made knockoffs (har)... that's not even a comment on performance, I've heard good things; but its like when you read an article in Nat Geo and you see the crazy purpose built alternatives people are using in some far off land... "you made a what out of WHAT?"
