Brilliant Cut Grinder

A question for all BC grinder owners:

As I look at the design, it seems like material will get caught in the bottom chamber between the post sticking up from the very bottom of the grinder and where the three prongs from the middle interchangeable plate make contact with this post. This seems like it would would lead to material being smashed between these points, and eventually building up and changing their ability function.

Has anyone found this to be an issue?

Not at all.

There's no way to get material stuck between the bottom plate post/magnet and the middle plate when grinding like normal. The are no holes in the middle plate for the bud to pass to through. The middle of every plate is used for connection via the magnets.

I was also one who used to use a 4 piece grinder. Then one day, I just stopped cleaning the screen on my 4 piece SCS and it effectively became a 3 piece! Haven't looked back since, and would never go back to a 4 piece.

I likely wouldn't have bought the BCG if it were a 4 piece grinder. Keep my trichomes with my bud, please!

I am getting ready to order but the shipping to USA is $30??? Is that correct? Price jumped from 125 to 155.00. Not sure I want to pay 30 bux for a very long shipping time.

Not a problem. That section where the post meets the grind plate is fixed while grinding.

I believe it’s only supposed to be $10CDN or about $7.50US. Perhaps email GFL for clarification.

Not so much a problem, but it is a thing.

I load herb chambers or a 'dankshank' over my BCG and always sprinkle herb on the magnet, and it can get a bit squished if closed. I don't know, but it seems like there must be a tiny bit of clearance between the magnets when the grinder is closed, so it's not so bad.
Slowly I'm getting in the habit of scraping down the post before I close it, it's pretty easy to knock anything off.

The underside of the plate fares worse, but it isn't bad.

It's keeping really clean and I'm getting decent use from the variable grinds. Fine and medium are my most used, but I can't say I have a preference. I'm already looking forward to busting up a coarse blend of some fresh new super-dense bud. Not sure what to expect!

The sublimator was making some amazing clouds with a perfectly fine grind just now.
Sorry for the phone cam blur.

Yes there are? the holes the flower falls through are in the middle plate. I’m concerned about ground up flower building up and getting smashed between the bottom post and the underside of the middle plate where it has those three prongs that make contact with the post of the bottom plate.

Interesting, ok. That’s good to know. So it happens, but isn’t terrible.

Sorry, was in a rush on the bus this morning and forgot an important part of that sentence. It should have read:

"The are no holes in the middle plate for the bud to pass to through, directly above the center post".

Lol of course there are holes in the middle plate, where else would the bud go?

@MoltenTiger is getting that little bit of bud on the bottom magnet due to the way he loads herb chambers directly above the bottom plate. That bud doesn't get there through grinding, but rather when it falls on it after grinding when filling a different container, when the middle plate is off.

Unless I'm misreading what Molten said? I don't see how bud could get squished in there during normal grinding. But even with Molten sprinkling bud on it afterwards, you can see itt's still not an issue.

Ahhhh ok. Thought I was talking crazy pills. Thanks for clarifying!

Hmm. To further clarify, in the act of retrieving the herb it’s not impossible to end up with herb on the magnet. Otherwise none would get there, although maybe some kief could find it’s way there if it’s shaken with ground herb inside, or upturned in a pocket..

The magnets do not meet, so the compression caused between them when closed over ground bud is minimal, but enough to cause residue, but it’s much less than normal, and there’s no super compressed flakey bullshit anywhere to be found. My first grinder and the SLX built up so much and compressed in the chamber and caused real cleaning nightmares and huge time wasted. Fuck that mess, the BCG is straight up amazing.

All those prototypes paid off. I don’t think it could actually be meaningfully improved beyond what it is.

The one place with metal-metal contact has worn through the anodisation (central post, as seen in pic, very tiny wear zone), and there’s some flakey bullshit that can build up on the sidewalls where the chamber meets the plate which you can also see the beginnings of in the pic.
It’s very easy to put up with those gripes.

I’m not talking about inbetween magnets. I’m talking about inbetween where the sides of the bottom plate’s center post meet the protrusions from the bottom of the middle plate.

Okay, right. They’re tapered. There’s no tight spaces, everything is engineered to relieve compression. It isn’t eradicated, but it’s as good as it gets. This is a stupidly oily plant we’re dealing with after all. My grinder above has blasted some ounces and it feels as good as new.
Still early days, but good as new is a lot better than normal, it could get a lot worse before it’s just an extremely good grinder, not simply brilliant.

Im not here to hate on BCG in fact im going to get one once they have a good stock of it but i wonder why my SLX never gets any build up? i have never cleaned it and its really clean. I have ran many ounces through it. The only complaint i have is the magnets are not strong and i hate the threads.

I believe the SLX has a unique special coating on it that keeps it “non-stick.”

Today's the day boys. BCG has arrived. I'm gonna put this thing through some work before I make a longer post, but initial impressions are good. The top section seems to be the only part with some wiggle, but not enough to lose any herb or fly off after a fall. All of my pieces seem to have really nice color. I ordered the three plate set, and all three plates are very easy to swap. The turn is also very smooth. Hopefully I'll be back with an update that has pics and some more info soon.

I have two of these grinders, a beta model and the current model. I got the beta close to half a year ago I think, and the production model a couple of months ago...and I don't think I've ever seen this happen once.

The top section seems to be the only part with some wiggle, but not enough to lose any herb or fly off after a fall.

That wiggle of the top section appears to be a feature, as far as I can tell.

Alright I've been lurking for a little bit too long, and it seems that the BCG is going to be the thing that brings out the review. These are just very initial impressions. I would like to note that I just personally enjoy smoking and am writing this review in order to get some more (poorly edited together) pics and knowledge out about this grinder. For people who don't really care to read too deeply, I really enjoy this grinder and cannot see myself going back to a threaded grinder again. Thank you very much @Grinders for Life for making this available. Let's start off with a chopped photo of the individual plates.
Seperated-Plates.jpg

There are many better photos of the BCG plates, but this ones mine :). Every plate fits together very well, and is extremely easy to swap. In the post I had made earlier I brought up the slight wiggle on the top plate, and I would like to point out that I referred to it as "some" wiggle. Like @Ramahs mentioned it seems intentional to keep turning smooth even when jammed with bud, and after testing it a bit I would like to restate that no herb falls out and it's nowhere near loose. I was previously using the gr8tr, and I often found myself never swapping plates due to how much work it was to change everything. Every BCG plate is also far cleaner than the Gr8tr plates after use. I'm happy with the fit, and the BCG snapping together is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to play with while I'm smoking. Here's a pic of the grinder with all of the different color plates.
Side-View-Together.jpg

I was also very interested with how well everything holds together. After tossing and dangling my new grinder around for a while I was impressed with the strength of the magnets. It is easily able to hold its own weight and does not come apart when you don't want it to. While I wouldn't call the BCG hard to open with the strong magnets, it does take a little bit of an egg cracking motion as others on here have mentioned. You can't really twist the bottom section at all which feels so good while grinding. I can't even think of how often I stop mid grind with threaded grinders because I accidentally start to twist them apart with the turn of the top plate alone. This is an issue that seems totally solved by this grinder with the metal post and nubs that connect the bottom two plates. I was also a bit worried that the post in the middle would eat up some of the room for my herb, and I would like to say it's a lot bigger in there than it looks . I really do love the current size of the BCG, and am very excited to see what the larger size will look like when it's eventually finished. I'd like to finish up my post talking about the actual grind quality.

Overall I am very impressed with the quality of the BCG's grind. Personally, I believe that the coarse plate should be a little bit chunkier, but the medium and fine plates are both very nice to use. I don't think I've ever had a fine grind plate that clogged as infrequently as the BCG's. The herb just falls through with some twists and taps. If anybody has some questions or anything I'll still be lurking, and hopefully I covered something that somebody wanted to know. This grinder is an instant favorite, and I am excited to watch it develop even further with you guys.

Got mine....I think I really like the color scheme but might have liked black for top and bottom with the gold middle piece. This is hilarious to me as I have never in my 66 years ever considered the color of a grinder! haha Just not really on my radar....but, I think looks pretty good. What do you guys think?

Its not smaller than I thought....because I knew it was a 2" grinder. I have not had a chance to use it yet (got it yesterday) and will see if when fully loading with dank if it gives me any problems in gripping and turning. My hands aren't bad, but I have gone to a NV arm band version of their fine grinder because...well, of the better grip.

I tend to grind 1/8 - 1/4 at a time then Space Case it. I have no patience so I tend to over stuff the NV fine grinder! LOL I'll give the BCG a go fully loading and will report back.

I do urge them to consider a 2.75-3" version.

So I've definitely gotten used to using this thing and man oh man I think this is my new favorite grinder. Haven't played around with the coarse plate yet but the medium plate and fine plate both grind very well. Comparing the fine grind on the BCG to my gr8tr it seems that the gr8tr does actually produce a bit of a finer grind than the BCG which was a bit of a bummer but where this grinder truly wins is in it's ability to grind completely without getting gunked up at the top of the grinder. With my gr8tr I'd grind my herbs and half of it would get stuck in the top without falling through the holes. I don't have that problem at all with the BCG. So all in all I do like the grind on my gr8tr slightly more than the BCG since it seems to grind a little more fine but the BCG trumps every grinder in terms of convenience so far.

What do you guys think?

Sapphire Blue and Gold looks fantastic. "If" I go with a BCG (undecided between it, the Herb Ripper and Lift Innovations) I'll probably go Sapphire Blue for top and bottom and then Sapphire Blue, Gold, and Silver for the grinding plates.

GFL should add a configuration tool on their website so potential buyers can see what the final combination will look like with different colors. If I was them I would post some sample pics of different combinations as well.

Here are a few I came up with with a quick photo edit on my phone https://imgur.com/a/eaj1ubP
