What would a futuristic vaporizer have...

I have always been curious if it is possible to make the ultimate desktop vaporizer that does amazing things using modern tech. So I decided that I will do it and need to know what would be awesome and what would be meh. The problem I have is that they all seem so loud and annoyingly average when they don't have to be. Idk what do you think?

I included a survey please fill it in and help me not fuck this up. -----> bit.ly/ovandivape

Maybe start with what an ideal vaporizer would do. Propose vape the trichomes, just the trichomes and all of the trichomes, from an adjustable amount of flowers at an adjustable temperature in as brief a time as possible.

Built DIY hot-glass style vaporizers. Glass joint around ceramic soldering iron heating element, similar to whip vaporizers. Also own Herbalizer as "reference" flower vape. Both worked well, but disappointed by unevenness of the heating. One tasty hit > shake > one nasty hit (optional) > ABV. Ideally, one big, tasty hit with minimal heating of plant material. More like dabbing. :spliff:

Thank you for the reply! I have been thinking a lot about the internal functionality and have been tackling Quick heat up, minimal technique, large temperature variability up to 450F or up to 700F for concentrates, quick and easy extraction of the material. I appreciate your response as I am trying to find out what is really important and make something I can deliver. My background is in consumer electronic production and manufacturing and will actually look to make this even if I can only make 5 units on my own dime I want to build something awesome.

Keeping it as simple as possible would be something I would wanna see. Too many vapes get themselves stuck in wanting to give a bunch of bells and whistles, instead of just doing their one job as well as possible.
I 100% agree!

"futuristic" because i don't make it yet, due to laws and such.

my feature list is simple:
  • convection
  • all glass vapor path (no metal, plastic or ceramic in any part of the airflow path)
  • battery powered so it is mobile - not necessary to be pocketable
  • by degree temperature control
  • temperature display
  • small
  • just herb is okay for me - i think concentrates are a different ballgame
  • from small load up to 0.15g
  • fast recharge - 1 hour for 90 minutes of run time
  • swappable battery pack
  • wide voltage input: 6v to 20v, so car battery is possible
  • custom leather case to hold all the bits and pieces necessary for a dozen sessions
  • reliable and tested
power on to first hit is 2 minutes - so far this is acceptable, and anyway, i can't see a way to reduce this with my current heater design.

The Herbalizer's halogen bulb excels at reaching temperature quickly. Worth a look as a heat source.
I will check it out I was researching the pros and cons of heat sources. Do you think the herbalizer does a better job than the Volcano on quality of vapour?

For me , the next greatest vape would be a grasshopper 2.

I'd like to see something grasshopper like (true convection with no needed stirring), but with a longer air path so it had cooler vapor.

A larger gh with more traditional batteries would be nice too.

I've lobbied on other threads here that designers should start thinking outside the box and redefine portable vapes. I suggested distinguishing between pocket vapes and portable (non-electric) vapes, which frees up size constraints on larger portable vapes.

Function and form are important to me. I'd love to see a great functioning convection vape that looks great on the coffe table or shelf when not in use.

Hope this helps!

Haven't compared directly, but the Herbalizer can produce copious, delicious vapor, IME.

It's called the New Vape Flower Pot of course.

For me , the next greatest vape would be a grasshopper 2.

Gotta check these out. Haven't kept up with flower vaping.

What about nano-lasers individually targeting and vaporizing each trichome? Futuristic enough?

I thought the grasshopper was super cool as well I followed the kickstarter when it came out. I will check out the 2.0 when it launches and see how it is. I having been thinking heavily about design and have been wondering if a vape has to look like a vape at all. This is where I think grasshopper did it uniquely by changing the form factor to something we are common with. Thank you for the reply as well!

The nano-lasers would be a possibility if I assembled an engineering justice league into my basement and we had the unlimited equipment to play with. But this would indeed be an awesome vape.

What are the core things that should be done super well? (vape the herb! but you know what I mean)

Well, a fantastic futuristic vape would be required to vape everything you put into it very effectively. It would need to be an extraction BEAST that is sturdy and simple to use.

The future is here

A desktop vaporizer that vapes absolutely everything in a very amazing way already exists.
It's called the New Vape Flower Pot of course.

My thoughts exactly...

As someone who likes her rituals (whether that's recreational or medicating) to be mindful/joyous/beautiful, I think there should be more style in future vapes. The Pax is very slick but I'm talking about the style of the upcoming Nomad. That's a lot of personal preference, but for me, I want my vapes to be as beautiful as I think the plant is, the jars I keep my cannabis in etc.

I also like the distinction between pocket vs portable vs desktop. I often vape around our property so pocketable isn't the most important thing unless I'm heading out somewhere particular. A friend has questioned my future purchase of a Solo 2 based on size but for me, I've got a Haze v3 for bringing out and about (I usually have a bag or purse anyway.) The Solo 2 is going to be an amazing home vape. I don't expect it to be a pocket vape or portable in the sense that so many require.

Stationary/display vapes would be nice, too. I love the idea of having my vapes as part of the decor; desktop vapes have an opportunity to make something beautiful (think Nomad! think style! less stainless steel or aluminum and blue LCD screens and more glass, texture, custom, colours...) I would love to be able to gift my mum something that she would be proud to have out as opposed to smuggle away when she's not using it.

Hey Everyone! Long time no see, I am a coming back with an update after working on this for coming on 2 years we created https://ovandi.io.

Ovandi Pro is our first vape targeting the home:

- Vapes Herbs and low temp concentrates, we are aiming for medical grade using convection
- Both Whip attachment and vapor bag
- A larger bowl that uses acoustics design which means it will heat evenly and make small movements
- Integration with Google home and Amazon Alexa to give it basic commands
- Useful Application with terpene features will talk about this closer to release
- A touch screen interface with manual controls and the ability to save presets

Please let me know if this hit the mark. We are now raising funds to start manufacturing after receiving our first orders.

Some may not want to give Google or Amazon proof of a federal crime. Or, proof of inability to own/purchase a firearm.

AJS

Calm Consistency
Vapes evenly
Doesn't go out of business
Doesn't break

Will never happen.

Just kidding though, but ultimately I want precise temp control, easy to load bowls, fat rips with good flavor. That's about my perfect vape.

Alexa indication is optional and no microphone built into the vape. We had a series of people request it so we just made it possible to connect if you own one. (Hey Alexa, heat up my ovandi to Nathans preset)

the last alexa I came across could not answer a single question about the endocannabinoid system

Very true, something we hope to change. We are based in Canada so have more flexibility because of nationwide. Definitely, want to give a lot more substance with Alexa as most things like this I've seen have been a gimmick.

Loool "Doesn't go out of business" I felt that in my soul.
