Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I’ve got some Do-si-dos that should work quite nicely.

Should I clean my dynavap before using it? Any particular cleaner recommended if so? I know George isn’t so hot on iso.
As @KidFated. suggested, soak in ISO for a few minutes.
Follow up with a solid rinse of water.
ISO is flammable, which is why you have heard George say not to use. But as long as you rinse off ISO thoroughly, you will be safe to use.

iso is fine for cleaning. I recommend 90% and above

I'm having some custom made glass stems made for my vapcap and I don't have any calipers. What diameter and depth do they need to be?

A Vapcap tip and Omni mp assembly will fit into an 8mm hole, so your glass needs to have an 8mm inside diameter. This is the one critical measurement.

If you want your stems to match the Dynavap midsections then the measurements are:

Bodies are 45mm long.

Stems are 62mm long.

Mouthpieces are 17mm long.

If you want to use your glass stem with the Dynavap condensers, the regular condensers will accommodate a 62mm midsection and the XL condenser will accommodate a 79mm midsection.

Okay, last question, should I remove the O rings before cleaning with ISO? Would the ISO dry them out or corrode them at all? I didn’t get a replacement pack so I’d be in trouble if they got damaged.

If I'm being completely honest, most cleanings is just me taking everything apart and swabbing everything in/out/through with iso-soaked q-tips/buds.

I'm not sure I've ever even felt the need to soak the tip in iso. It's the hot piece. The drugs don't condense on it. If you fully extract your load, the ABV comes out cleanly and the tip stays fairly clean, aside from oil that collects in the smallest part of the neck of the tip, which is easily swabbed out.

Well, that was interesting. After cleaning I went to pop the Ti screen to adjust it into one of the higher grooves, and it shot all the way out and some of the prongs look a little bent. And then the tip wouldn’t fit back on the body. I decided to set that one aside for now and try the spare tip I got. Thankfully that one inserted perfectly without any hesitation.

I tested heating and cooling the tip a few times with an empty oven. My makeshift Dynastash worked well, with the dynavap easily attaching to the lid of the tin. I was surprised how fast the magnet cooled down the cap.

Then I threw in some small nugs of Do-Si-Dos and let her rip. I did get a lot of flavor at first and almost no vapor. I felt the taste get like popcorn by the third hit. I emptied that and it was pretty uniformly brown, not dark brown but light and consistent.

I was about to throw it in the Jyarz jar that I had designated for ABV when I noticed some old shake in there. I said what the hell and loaded a bowl with it. It tasted burnt from the get go but when I pulled the cap off it wasn’t burned at all, just old as hell. Then I threw in a few more nugs of Dosidos to finish the session out. I suspect the old shake affected the taste, because the second round of Dosidos also tasted a little burnt. However I still hit it two more times and managed to get some serious vapor. Even with the burnt flavor, the vapor itself was very smooth, I felt I could take some huge rips without hurting my throat or lungs.

I see the learning curve come into play. Those last two hits were a lot easier than the previous ones because I was working the carb better. Heating distance became easier to gauge. I was more certain when I heard the clicks. I’ll be playing with it more towards the end of the week. I can tell I’m already going to enjoy the ritual and the feel of handling and pulling on it is extremely satisfying. I understand why this vape has such a rabid following.

I also bought a fat mouthpiece and will definitely be using it in a bubbler for my next session.

@Monk Debate Are you sure you didn’t singe some of it? If any of it combusts the burnt taste will stick around for a while - possibly until you clean it.

If you’re packing it to the very end of the tip it’ll touch the cap and that’s one of the easiest ways to burn a few bits of your flower, so I try to leave a little space. Just enough to keep it from touching.

It's a windy and rainy day in The Netherlands:

I'm home for a week now thanks to a nasty flu. Luckily the Vapcap helped me to get rid of some of the stomach pains and to get more appetite. With a single lighter I can get the desired results easily: just a pinch of herb in the tip, and low temp hits to avoid a heady high. Not everything has to be vaped in one session, which helps to avoid "overmedicating". I wouldn' know any other device that gives me so much control with just a little bit of herb!

Have a good day everyone

Have you tried to lubricate the rings on the tip? Some saliva or wax can help to put the tip back on it.

Welcome back, @Dutch-Mic ! From your weeklong bout with the flu, extra virulent strain this year.

(Sometimes when my throat is sore with a cold, and my lungs congested, it helped to chew on a bit of herb, or eat some edible to ramp up the appetite. Some herb tea also helped, to nurse sensitive lungs back to recovery.)

Nice composition. Olde Timey!

Cheers! Spring is a-blooming. Soon.

Maybe that’s what happened. I was going to clean it before the next session because I figured that taste would stick around.

I think I never did this, like NEVER, and I'm still alive !
I think you "vape" really worst things staying for 10 minutes in a traffic jam.
off course I would recommend cleaning like you but in a less alarming way.

Probably just got the infamous "char-hit." Definitely happened to me, and I'll STILL check every time, thinking I combusted.

That stank will stick around though, if you did combust - it's a bit persistent. Typically, cleaning only does so much for it, and you'll have to deal with the slight rankness for a few bowls before it gets completely masked.

Yeah breathing residues of machine oils must be as dangerous as having a car accident I guess. No, more seriously, of course he's right it was just comment on the very alarming way to put it. But it's true I never did it and I don't think it was dramatically careless.

On rereading my post it was a little rude, sorry about that. My point is just that I have done a lot of risky and/or careless things in my life and the fact that I lived through them doesn't make them any more safe. I'm sure you could use asbestos to reduce heat in your vape, but I wouldn't recommend it. As a matter of policy I don't put anything manufactured in my mouth or breath through anything that I haven't made some effort to clean. The potential down side is bad enough that it is always worth a little effort. To me at least. YMMV.

Added: BTW I wanted to mention that while machine oils may be a concern (relatively minor but still) my greater concern is metal shards that might be inhaled. I HAVE cleaned metal shards out of VCs (tho not recently). Very simple to prevent but does require acting.

Hey all,

It's been about a year since I picked up my 2017M. Been my daily driver ever since.

I think it's time to spend some money on an upgrade, an Induction Heater. I've not been following for a few months, but I do know that Dynavap haven't released their official one, and my impression is that the official IH project is more or less stalled for the time being.

Are there still long waiting lists for IHs? If I wanted a portable and rechargeable induction heater, where should I take my money? I'm located in the UK btw.

Last time I checked @Pipes has the Portside Mini in stock and ready to ship from Canada.

Question for those who have been using the vapcap far longer than me... What exactly is the advantage to having (or not having) the condenser?

Reason I ask is because I am now using the ddavemods water wand v2 stem (no condenser) and, especially when used with a bong, it appears I can get milkier draws. This is in comparison to the stock 2018 M but with a Ti tip and also an OmniVong XL.

I just modded my M stainless steel tip and added notches to it which appeared to improve the draw. Now I am wondering if maybe I should also remove the condenser.

Not sure if this has been found out or discussed yet but I ordered a new cap and received it a week ago - it arrived much shinier than I seem my original NonaVong cap came as and when torching it produces an effect just like if you torched the titanium condenser in one of DynaVap's videos, a purpley gradient of sorts that still is not dulling after a week of 3+ bowls a day.

So I think the new caps and the 2019M cap may now be made of titanium.. do you think its the case?

2 primary advantages that I can see. The first is the ability to use the air hole to control the density of your hits. The air hole allows you to mix come fresh air with the vapor you are getting from the tip which may be easier on your throat and lungs.
The second advantage is for easier cleaning. The condenser collects all the honey from the vape and can be cleaned with an ISO soaked Q-tip. It also allows you to use a wood body or stem without having to worry about cleaning honey from it.

If you find you are always keeping the air hole closed or want the densest hits possible and have no concerns about cleaning your stem you can use a stem with no air hole and skip the condenser completely. There is no advantage to using a condenser in a stem with no air hole like @DDave s glass wands or @stardustsailor s beautiful Ti artwork.
