I played Alan Wake over the weekend and was not that impressed. IGN gave it 9.0 which I was surprised about, interesting plot and setting, but the rest felt too much like Left 4 Dead meets Silent Hill (minus the zombies.)

I think I'm going to start replaying the SCUMM games that I used to rinse when I was younger. Mainly Sam and Max Hit the road, Day of the Tentacle and Indiane Jones and the fate of Atlantis. Can't beat the old point n' click adventures!

I have never been one to get into the pre-release hype of movies or video games,... but now that I have a 15 year old son, looks like I will be waiting outside Gamestop tonight for the release of Halo Reach......
Back when I was a kid and only had an Atari (does that date me?) I thought it would be great if my dad would get into video games with me...
Now years later, as a father,... nothing brings me more joy than hiding behind a building or rock and sniping my son,.... love ya boy!! Head Shot!!

Back when I was a kid, there was no such thing as color televisions, let alone video games. Does that date me? ;)

Well yes, and thanks the stars for that,.. glad there are some Elders around these parts. So when you were a kid, no pong? No Activision?
What do you play now?

Nope. First time I played pong was back in the early 70's at a party at my boss's house. At that time, I worked at a company called Laser Images which was owned by Ivan Dryer. We were the first to introduce Laser Light shows and held them at various planetariums across the country. He had one of the first pong games ever made at his house, and we were like.......... :o.

I will be playing Halo Reach tomorrow. Just because all of my friends will be and I am kind of tired of all my FPS games.

The biggest release that I remember was for NES Super Mario Bros 3.... Remember the mario fans all over the world chanting "Mario, Mario, Mario!" Such Hype around that game & was well worth it

Mass Effect 2 was and is amazing for sure... Lotsa hours sunk into that one, and I might go back and play it again as a renegade instead of a "good" guy. Highly recommended if you have an xbox360.

Metroid: Other M. It's been OK, but not up to the series high pedigree.

I also want to pick up Halo Reach, but I'll have to renew my Gold Membership as well, and I don't have that kind of money. :/

Do you work?

I just slept and went to work and then bought it. It's not like I would have played at 12:01. And it's not like it was sold out at least where I am.

It's fun.. I play just for the multi-player. I played a little campaign and remembered how lame the halo enemies are. I just don't give a fuck about the story at all. I actually think the game is pretty weak compared to other top notch FPS. COD MW, L4d & l4d2, I have even ran the demo of Mass Effect 2 and I am into it... halo campaign is just so awful. I could care less about killing the enemy or the story. COD really gets you into it, l4d gives you pleasure of the zombie kill...

Only neg, and this is because I am not a halo maniac, is there is a little too much when it comes to the flying, holograms, cloaking device, etc. It was one thing when you had to seek it out in the level, when everyone is doing special shit it kind of cheapens it. People are already flying to little camp spots that you can't get to if you didn't choose jetpack.

OUch!! Yes I work,.... I wouldn't have waited in line at midnight other than for my son. He is 15 and video games are important to him. He is a huge fan of the Halo series ( except odhst)

I don't care much about the story for halo either but the graphics on this new one (reach) are pretty good. Only playing the story now, have yet to even get into the multiplayer part of things.

I remember doing a few of those midnight lines for my son ;) thankfully he didn't care about the new Halo lol.

Mass Effect 2 is a great game but it's the story, the voice acting and some of the really funny shit that's said in that game that makes it so much fun, besides just the shooting. If you really ever do get into it, I suggest taking the Renegade route. Just some of the comments and vocal comebacks had me really laughing out loud. A game that doesn't take itself too seriously like Halo has a tendency to do. But if you do decide to play it thru, I suggest playing Mass Effect 1 first just for the story continuation and the fact that you can import your character into ME2. Being an RPG as well as a shooter, the story is a big part of it.

Think it is going to be necessary to give mass effect a try, I bet I could get 1 pretty cheap used.. halo is fun for the bang bang shoot em up but it sounds like I would have more fun with the ME series. I like RPG. Halo is my kids game hahaha, whenever I try to log on to play a bunch of his online friends, who should be in school, pop on and start with the game invites

Anyone in here ever play Heimdall?

100% true. true of all Bioware games really. Have you played Dragon Age yet? It has the same dialog select, good/bad choices, choose your own adventure sort of story as the ME and KotOR games, only the setting and gameplay feels a bit more Baldur's Gate. I also like that your character doesnt have a voice and doesnt say slightly diff versions of the dialog option you select like ME does. Some ppl dont like it, but i need my character to be silent for me to get into an RPG, otherwise it just doesnt work as well. Also, on ME I didnt like how you couldnt choose your last name, the one that everyone refers to you by, just the first. I understand that it was necessary to avoid tons and tons of VO work tho, but still it makes it feel more detached hearing everyone calling you shepherd. Although loading up my save and seeing my name, German Shepherd, always makes me laugh at my own creative stoniness .

I've beaten DA and all the expansions/DLCs on hard as a human noble warrior and I recently started beating it again on nightmare as a human mage or whatever (mainly because i want to experience it in 3D this time and my god is it beautiful). They're both enjoyable classes to play, but i think i had more fun as a warrior so i'd recommend that to anyone starting off. <nerd rant> I chose to put my attribute points largely into strength, so i do more dmg, and dexterity, so my attacks are more likely to connect. For my skills i went with sword and shield fighting and champion subclass. At higher levels of shield mastery your character doesnt take flankimg dmg and has really good defense buffs, both activated and passive skills, as well as shield bashes and such. And work towards getting the skill "massacre" right away, because its so awesome, instantly kills any enemy nearby thats lower class than you, normal damage on bosses, and criticals on elite and such. The game got so laughably easy once i got my skillpoints up and got good equipment. By the end of the last DLC i played i was pretty much indestructible, between my skills, armor with buffing runes, and the 2 lifegiver rings that gave me like 6-9 health regen in combat lol my sword is of course awesome also because between the base stats on it and runes i put on it, it does high base dmg, fire, ice, shock, spirit dmg, paralysis and buff to attack speed. ... as far as mages go, get healing spells and the spell cone of cold ASAP if you want to make things easier on you</nerd rant>

I definitely think anyone who starts playing the game, esp as a warrior, should go to the elf camp in teh woods and do the quest for the trader there ASAP so that he'll sell you from his infinite supply of elfroot, then all you need is flasks from bartenders in redcliff or denerim and some herbalism skill (:brow:) and you wont have to worry about running out of health potions.

I would be down to trade/borrow games. Might be a cool idea & help save money. Only would want to do this with established forum members though.

I just fried my brain playing the Space Invaders Infinity Gene. just came out on PSN. Pretty much just an updated Space Invaders... but boy is it fun. at least to me, I enjoy these kinds of games.
Reminds me of Geometry Wars, (pretty much Asteroids on LSD)

Can't wait for the KOTOR MMO but those cinematic trailers are worthless to me. KOTOR was the best RPG experience I've ever had with Oblivion close behind.

Currently playing the hell out of Blur and waiting for the new Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. When I play Halo Reach it feels like the same game from 4 years ago with gimmicks added. I need a new Halo graphics engine and better networking since the lag is similar to Halo 2 still when compared to the modern FPS's on Live.

Shiz, I agree with reach, esp multi-player. Take some old maps, make them semi pretty, and we are supposed to be happy with that? A lot of the modes are pretty dumb too. It is the same game with some gimmicks. Literally. I really expected the penultimate fps.

I still think the regular multi games are fun, but the same fun as halo 1.

Can't wait until they try to sell us some more old maps... Although I have seen some player created maps that are pretty good, I assume some will catch on.

Cheers for the mafia 2 suggestion, tis my new game solely for when I'm stoned. I got as far as beating up some arsehole that was trying to fleece money out of my sister, then I explored the city for hours...walking around because its so realistic I felt like I was there. Eventually I got bored of that and just ran around bumping into people.

Well, I started playing Civilization V yesterday evening.

It must be a pretty addicting game, at least for me, because i didnt make it to bed until 6AM! Odd thing is, i'm not really into strategy games and such, but this turn based stuff is a lot more fun for me than RTS. I just get stressed when i play RTS games because theres too much to do and keep track of at once, with Civ5 you can take your time and plot like in RL.
