I'm coming around to the view that wattage is the move with cheaper TC mods.
Funny that you said that as I just switched back to wattage mode on my RX 2/3 last night. I am really looking forward to the DNA device, but in truth wattage mode works just fine with my Z and my Splinter on my 2/3.

If the VT75D performs as I suspect the Z will live on it and the Splinter will live on my 2/3.

I'm kind of there with you. I have the wismec rx2/3, and right now my go to approach is cruise mode at about 19W. Maybe drop it down to 15 or 16W towards the end. 1-2 minute session kills the bowl, and I'm starting to get a good idea of how abv will look based on how hot the vapor had been.

What is the real impetus for wanting TC so badly? To get back to the vape temp guides with terps/extractions etc? otherwise the vw mode works so well, what do you gain?

Wattage mode makes the Splinter and the SplinterZ act pretty much like the Milaana, unregulated and manual. I don't mind that terribly, but I have a Milaana and can use it if that is what I am after. The Mods make it possible to be much more precise, and more like the Zion in it's ability to set maximum temps. The DNA mod should make that control easier to use and manage. At least that is what I am expecting. I think the DNA mod will make it easier for me to treat different strains differently.

I have a question for fellow Splinter owners.

Last night I was using my splinter on a DNA250C mod and I was using a small bubbler (I highly recommend this item https://www.puffitup.com/Sipper-Bubbler-Mouthpiece-p/qctq.bubb-curvtop.htm) and even though the temp was only 205. C I almost combusted. I took off bubbler a microsecond before a Total cleaning was required.

Does anyone have any ideas on how a 250C with the resistance and temp being "normal" could combust?

I'm stumped.

Any help/ideas welcome.

That temp is a little high still, and even with DNA temp is always relative with a pure convection vape. Your draw and load make a huge impact on actual bowl temp, and I think through water it is easier to get that perfect heavy flow draw for great vapor that can go a little too far. So try lowering temp for those situations. I'm able to go very high temp in mine though and haven't gotten close yet...

Stability, consistency, more control. I can stay low temp easier controlling the extraction for lighter avb and actually more even without stirring as well. It just doesn't have the same open level that power mode has, like Milaana and Zion have, but it is very nice and still strong. And yes I can also draw for much longer without worry of temp continuing to rise, so big low temp hits are just even easier.

Technically it makes them more like the Zion actually, bc you can control the voltage instead of being dependent on your battery level. It just is an open loop and will keep rising in temp at a rate determined by the wattage basically. Still helps you control your extraction more than a true unregulated device, while temp control just gives, more control.

maybe thats where I'm missing something: isnt the milaana, unregulated as it is, then pushing an ever decreasing wattage as the battery drains? doesnt vw at least set a cap on the wattage, then keep it consistent throughout batt level?

To be honest I don't know exactly how these devices actually work electronically other than how they are described and how their descriptions vary. I will say that wattage or power mode have nothing to do with temperature directly, but are technically more like Zion (as SS said) in that they manage the power coming from the batteries, but in a gross way not a precise way. The DNA should add precision, and consider temp in the mix of controlling factors (even though the temps are not precise, they provide relative precision). That is why I think it will be better. I may be wrong, of course, but I won't know until I try it.

@sickmanfraud I use my dna from 350 up to 385 or so I agree with @Shit Snacks that you should experiment with lower temps. I'm still ready to claim full extraction from just that range even though the numbers don't jive with the session vape world.

@eideal852 both wattage and dna TC have their place. I'm partial to big lengthy hits and I think @Shit Snacks is right to say the main difference is control. If other DNAs perform similarly to mine I'd recommend everyone enjoy the quick easy clouds and flavor at 350 or 355° for the first few hits. Wattage gets the abv darker faster the way I draw so it's harder to keep cool and flavorful. I've also seen more risk of scorching when others have tried my Splinters in wattage.

And @cybrguy, I think you have the right expectations for the DNA experience. I don't know anything about how it works, I just put the profiles on there and settled at the temps I prefer and every time out the performance is super consistent.

Heh heh. Been struggling to not just pay what they cost for a while. This killer deal pulled me over.

Like I said above wattage mode works great but I am hoping for "greater"... :p

There is no hurry to upgrade, they will be there when you decide.

Some enabler you turned out to be, @cybrguy. We had him hooked!

@eideal852, don't listen to that fool. Follow us into the void and get an Hcigar VT75D from China for $58. It'll take so long to arrive it'll be like you never even bought it!
Oh I can be swayed... but I'll soon be trading bitcoin and shipping to a g-d- PO box. My wife is a Patient woman, and she loves me, but she has her limits!

Heh heh heh. Sorry, after being called a shill for my support for RBT vapes and all things DynaVap I guess I resist pushing too hard. Then there are some of the things that kept me from pulling the trigger on this mod for so long (which still apply), but I won't mention them here. I'm all in now. :o

With temp control I know I can pass the Splinter and mod to anyone and say "press here and suck there" with no more instruction required other than to rotate the stem occasionally
The spent stems are identical each time, no worrying about hot spots, scorching, combustion, draw speed, peppering the power .....

And the consensus is TC on dna only? Or worth chasing that dragon on FJ/AF/SUR (note: Im stock rx300 fw)

edit: self condensed, sorry double post!

Yep, and the tight fit in the battery compartment. I have a lot of 30Qs these days. But on the venting thing I don't put things like a mod in my pants pocket so I have chosen to be less concerned about it. The upsides (DNA75c, shape, and 2/1 battery options) overwhelmed the downsides for me.

Yeah, the TC I was doing on my 2/3 worked ok for a while but stopped working as effectively for some reason and I just went back to wattage mode. I don't know what changed, but I expect the DNA to be better at it.

Right. Mine was working fine for a while but something changed and I'm not clear on what, and experimenting with changes is something of a PITA (for me). Obviously there are settings that make it work well cause it did for a while. I think I fucked it up when I switched splinters for a while and I never got it back, at least with the effort I was willing to give it.

My hope is the DNA mod will need less adjusting. We'll see.

I can start as low as 320 with my V2 on the RXdna for pure flavor and heady effects, decent preheat and long hit too. I can really milk the low temps below 350 and get nice visible vapor even with long inhales. I've also gone as high as 445 without getting close to a scorch yet... More testing to do, and I need to try those RXG3D surmyevic settings for TC with my Z as well, it may work fine for me
