So I finally got my 20 Gauge SS316L wire and I have been playing around making coils. In supershredderdan's video on changing coils, he recommends fanning out the coils; Is that required or can I use the coils tightly packed. My thinking is that if I leave them tightly packed on can probably fit 8-10 wraps, where as if I fan them out I can only get 6-7 wraps. Since the wire has a low resistance I'd like to get as much metal in as I can. Let me know what you guys think.

@foggyent I experienced with that wire and had success. Using ga20 SS 316 wire, doing 10 loops around a screwdriver I managed to make the biggest possible resistance (0,154 ohms) of the thickest possible wire. I put those coils in November and they are still in pristine condition with daily usage. I spaced the wire as much as possible to improve airflow and minimize hotspots.

Hi, I purchased the StemPod Aegis Legend bundle on October 31,2018. In about one month, the Aegis stopped working. It says, "no coil detected." I've tried 3 different atomizers but I get the same result. Those same atomizers work as expected on another mod.

I have attempted to contact ModPodLabs multiple times through the website, but I have yet to receive a reply.

Geek Vape, the manufacturers of the Aegis, will not give support because Mod Pod Labs are not one of their official distributors and MPL resells the Aegis product for "alternative" purposes.

Is there another way to contact MPL? Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

I had gotten a quick response with the email at the bottom of my order receipt.

So I tried making 10.5 wrap coils from my SS 316L 20 gauge wire but it was a bust. My DNA mod gave me the dreaded OFF message despite everything I tried. 7.5 wrap coils fanned out seem to work perfectly. They worked so well that I was only able to get 3 test draws off it before I had to sit down.

Next project was to make rim-less basket screens. The rimmed screens kept catching on the o-ring and leaving small cuts in it, or knocking it out of place. I drilled a 1/2 inch whole in a piece of scrap wood I had lying around, and pushed the screen through with a screwdriver (with the bit taken out).

Worked perfectly, and left my o-ring intact!

EDIT
I forgot to mention the off message happened in TC. TCR 170 works perfectly for the 7.5 wraps could with the faintest of glows at 430 F. The screens are 1 inch diameter and I used a needle nose player to press in the pleats after I formed them.

What is your method for fanning the coils. Do you wrap normal and then stretch them? Or do you keep the coil spread as you wrap it?

You are my hero, I can’t wait to make my own basket screens! Hit me with a pm if you need instructions on how to set temp cut off so it’ll say “temp protect” instead of “OFF”

I wrapped the coil on a hex key, then mounted them to the deck andand trim the extra wire. Finally I put a smaller hex keybthroukeone of the coils and used a flatvhead screw driver to fan them out. Rinse and repeat.

You may have the wire in contact with the ss shell . With so many wraps its hard to keep it in place.

I love it! What gauge ss did you use for the basket? Purchased form where? Amazon?

Hi Everyone,

My Stempod arrived a day or so ago. I am brand new to box mods - although I was a software engineer for 20+ years so I do have some technical background.

I am a little confused about using the Stempod in TC mode. According to ModPod's website:

These SS316 clapton coils are the default coils that ship with StemPod. Use in wattage from 40-60 watts or in temperature control in TCR 215. Coils should last between 1 and 6 months of use.

Why would I set my mod (a Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250c) to TCR 215 when the coils are SS316?

I ask because the mod has SS 316 and SS 420 modes but nothing for SS 215?

Are there any great resources for a reasonably technically competant person to learn more about this?

Thank You!! :)

I wouldn't bother with either with a DNA250c. You can use @HerbieVonVapster profile created for the StemPod

Wondering about a few things while I'm waiting for my SP to arrive...
  • 19/22 stem
This refers to the diameter/length of the (tapered) connection area, correct?

Are these statements correct?
  • "SP stems are actually 19mm, which is a bit smaller than the the usual 18mm (actual 18.8mm)"
  • "The purpose of the O-ring is for a tighter fit when using 18.8mm attachments."
  • "The O-ring is not needed when using the 19mm stems"

Are the WPA adaptors from MPL 18.8 or 19mm?

Thanks in advance

Got my Stempod today from piu for 65 :). They threw me some extra stuff including a 2nd mp. Thanks to that I have a working mp. I broke the one I first touched when it slipped an inch out of my finger twice and broke in half haha. O well, it’s very thin so it doesn’t surprise me. My first session was dialing in on settings. Have to wait for my new mod on Saturday to get some firmware and settings. Are there profile settings for the Gen3 dual?

Just got my Gen3 dual in. Thank god, the mod i was using was useless in tc and wattage. Stempod gives me some reallllly pure taste and once I got the setting locked in on this new mod I’m flying high :). Pretty impressed with the vapor quality on the Stempod :) more testing to come

How are you liking the new coils.?
