The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

Hey guys, You want to hear a pretty cool thing that happened to me?

Anyone that has an Extreme Q, probably has or will buy, one of @DDave
kits to make your EQ more functional, it is highly suggested by folks that
have the kits.
Well, a couple of days ago @DDave contacted me, and said he was going to send me
a little package. Very cool, I thought. Well, it came and it has basket screens, regular
screens and a small water pipe. As far as I can tell, the wp will work with a vc too!
Isn't that just fantastic?? Anyway, I wanted to share my joy with all of you. :)
Thanks DDave!!!
@DDave is such a kind, thoughtful and generous person, it's leaving me speechless.

Good boxing day sale at Toronto Hemp. My buddy's getting an EQ for $167 CAD (~$125 USD). Authorized retailer.
Think it might only be on for today. Not sure if they're doing a boxing week sale.

(Hopefully I'm allowed to post that. No affiliation with THC, but 30% off is a good deal)

Question: does anyone have the temperature charts @MadScientist625 posted way back in the high 70s pages? He had attached a thermocouple to the Q for temperature differentials between the heater, the cyclone bowl and the elbow. It would be very interesting to see those, but they were mostly images and the images don't load anymore.

Update to my vaping experience: I've broken my glass stir sick already. It rolled off the coffee table. Lol. I read so far that pretty much everyone does that.

I also broke my remote the first day I had it. When I installed the battery, I accidently put the tray and battery in upside down. The battery came out of the tray and basically locked it in. I had to split the remote to get it out. I've since fixed it with a zip tie and got a new one (didn't figure out how to fix it right away). Haven't heard of anyone doing that yet, but I've still got lots of pages to go.

But I'm definitely getting the hang of using the thing and have been getting better and better results.

Breaking the glass stir stick is a rite of passage for EQ users. Congratulations.
And good for you continuing to work your way through the EQ thread. I'm planning to reread it myself, just as soon as the mj causes a bit more memory loss, and I can read it as if for the first time.

It's a long read for sure, and I giggle a little while doing it. Around the 60ish page mark, people start commenting on how long the read is. Right now I'm on page 80/465.

There's lots of questions about elbow packing and GonG adapters. Some questions about vaping temperatures.
A lot about pricing, as at page 80 it's still 2010 and the Q had just come out.

Some interesting points from @the electrician about how he uses it. Lots of posts from @Pappy in that era.

Some talk about inverting the Q and using it as a 'heat gun'. But that's a little disjointed, as none of the imagery loads anymore. (A lot of the old images don't load now, but I'm getting the gist of things even still, and if it doesn't make sense without the images,I just skim it.

Another big question/suggestions where I'm at are about US plastics vs 7th floor tubing to replace the stock EQ tubing. (And I think is still relevant, as the stock EQ tubing is still PVC as far as I know. I've got silicone tubing already and love it)

There is some internal images of the Q from when someone got their cyclone bowl stuck with soda, and took it apart to clean. That was interesting.

I'm looking forward to getting past 2010 and seeing some of the stuff after the Q had been around a while. Maybe updated tips and tricks.

pics didn't show up for me until I quoted the posting ;)

Interesting. It does work for me, but I can only see them in the quoted reply box. Eh, at least I can see the stuff.
I wonder how many of the images would have loaded like that, I'll have to go back and try it on some that I wanted to see.

Thanks.

Congrats on the switch to vapor. For a long time, i pretty much only vaped. Lately its a mix of vaping, hitting the bong, and enail dabbing all depending on the situation. Each has its place IMO. For example i have an EQ 2017 that i modded with a DDave and that thing hits real nice, i use it in the morning. Towards the evening i have some indica dabs, and its nice to have some bong hits (not many joints in this cold for me, lol). But back like 5 years ago, ALL my greenery would have gone to the SSV (my previous fav desktop vape, i still love it btw). I wouldnt even have bought shatter. Im started to see especially low temp dabbing to be sort of an extension to vaporizing. I like to use 500-550 F for pretty hard material, so i def get mostly vapor, but its strong bho vapor. I also really like the Source Nail, which is a very effective battery-powdered mod box rig.

But when i was just vaping, i got just as high and prolly more cannabinoids than dabs. I was reaaally into it. In the end its just 3 different paths. I dont look down on smoking, tho the bong will drain your weed alot faster. But you do get high faster too.

I find the Crafty and Firefly2 also get me very high very fast.

Sorry to be lecturing but people should know that the immediate effect of smoking (combusting) weed (or any plant matter) is purely from the carbon monoxide resulting from any combustion. The CO will dock to the same receptors in your blood cells that carry oxygen, so the pretty much immediate effect will be a light form of suffocation.

@DDave made a kit 4 U and me?
In Hawaii @ataxian slept in a pineapple forest
And smoked good ganja.
Papers only?
No glass?
We (surf bums) smoked pot 2 surf fearlessly!

On da mainland they had 2 deal with seed’s!
Now in HAWAII we had stronger smoke without seed’s? 1977
We didn’t use chemicals or commercial stuff!

+ we had no coin?

Papayas 4 breakfast & B-4 surf after GORILLAS FINGER joints were rolled & smoked.
$100/month on da sand at the time!
A “Q” would be opulence.

It’s not the same now? ($5,000 beach front if not more now)

I have been a happy DDave mod user for 3+ years and I must be among the slower EQ owners to realise that the old digital hotbox whips I have laying around just happen to fit the male heater connector snugly. It just never occurred to me to try - so I tested a few loads with the held EQ sideways to minimise weed spillage.

I can't easily attach from imgur so try this link for photos: https://imgur.com/a/ZHYMsCG

The larger load and close to zero resistance of those old whips is really worth trying if you have never done it and have one lying around. Ideal for multiple users and highly recommended in case you are as slow witted as me in not already figuring this out.

For optimal extraction, hot air has to pass through the weed and not straight out through the screen anywhere so easiest to use with more weed than fits a DDave 18mm cup. You have to completely cover the ginormous surface of the screen to prevent air bypassing the weed and pack it - sort of like a barista tamping coffee powder to ensure a uniformly packed "puck" if that makes sense.

Greetings @fubar

I'm glad to hear you're liking the mod.

I have a bunch of those whips laying around from early days of experimenting with different vapes, but there's a reason I never created a glass mod which necessitated the Arizer EQ be set sideways. It will overheat and there are pieces inside which will be subjected to higher temperatures than they were originally designed for. Especially the components near the base of the heater cover.

Take care friend,
DDave

Thanks for pointing that out - I'll keep a close eye on it - I'm sure you're right and it wants convection cooling - best upright. No warm patches on the shell or base that I could feel after a session - for what little that's worth. A right angle adapter would work and allow the EQ to ventilate normally I guess. Might look for one. I really like the hit.

Update: I wonder if these would fit - they claim to be 3" long but I fear the glass might rest on the top of the EQ shroud if the arm is too short - which it just might be. Can anyone who tried one of those 18mm male to 18mm female right angle adapters from dhgate on an EQ confirm it fits?

I am using one of this type, Harmon-Khardon. It works like a charm. I think the most important factor to look for is:
NSA40ED-190200

I am no electronics expert or whathaveyou, I've just found one of these works just as well to power my EQ. I've been using the replacement for 1+ yrs. now. Hope this helps. There's also other options than the link, just make sure they are that number compatible.

in case anyone has one, i discovered this weekend that the adapter of Bose Soundlink Mini can also power de V-Tower.

So the DDave mod overheats the EQ? Or am i misunderstanding that? Ive been using it standing up normally for prolly 2 years now. My sessions have become pretty short (and not too frequent) lately though.

Or is this a special kind of DDave adaptor? The one i have just seems to bring the weed closer to the heating element. (I think its an 18mm..) I didnt really enjoy the EQ that much without it. I was used to SSV and Crafty, so for it to match that vapor quality, had to use DDave or elbow pack. These days for most of my vaping i just use Firefly2. Though ive gotten back into the bong more. combustion causes a different effect entirely than vapor for me, i enjoy both.

Oh and the power adaptor above, the one that comes with the EQ is prolly the worst power adaptor i have ever seen on Any electronic device. It is so fickle that even literally one touch makes it stop working. You have to get the power cord into the adaptor just right, and then not even touch it.

I have a 7-8 year old SSV with a plug where the third ground prong broke off, and its still way better than the regular EQ battery

Regarding an earlier commnt, I broke the glass stir tool on my EQ prolly day 2, same with the beautiful one i got with my SSV. Then i bought another from 7th floor and it didnt fit in the bowl of my spherical ground glass. Though there was only one size option. I lost my Firefly2 stirring tool. I just get am unused longer dab tool or even just a paperclip and thats good enough for any vape ive had. I think the vape thats growing on me most after like 80 hrs of use is the Crafty actually. I initially HATED the Crafty battery and was so upset i didnt get a Mighty (which btw, happened to be an accident cause they were new and i picked the wrong name). But i love the Crafty. Its so fucking potent. Like prolly more so than any of my other vapes. A bowl feels like doing a nice dab

Literally a must-have lol. If theres one thing i wanna point out in my "tl;dr post is I didnt like the EQ much until i got the DDave, which made it similar to SSV with extra balloon feature.

I still fucking love the SSV and id say for whip its better. Most people dont know they need to pay extra for DDave also.

And perhaps not so coincidentally, im hitting an EQ balloon as i write this, and i really love it. 2nd balloon from a fully-layered DDave bowl (usually total like 3-4, if i wanna get a good 3rd i stir and use speed 1-2)

For whip, id say SSV is a notch above

I had a stained DDave mod, you know, the powerhouse one. I saw a post about putting it in Mean Green- the degreaser to combat the staining of the glass. It almost came clean. I did do some scrubbing with a toothbrush, to help loosen the staining. I thought I would pass this on, because dish soap and ISO wasn't performing too good.
I use DDave mods on my V-Tower daily, there is no substitute. I leave it on all night long, it's there when I awaken, ready to go. I use the whip only (V-Tower) and it simply rocks. This was my first :luv: vaporizer, and from almost the begining I have used DDaves mods. Simply a must.
Maybe a lot of you knew about the Mean Green, but, I didn't and wanted to share the tip. Hey!! Be sure to rinse like one million times, too.

Definitely nailed it there. I've always been an Everything or Nothing kind of person.

That is hard to say. She has her own spheres of the internet she attends to, but it's not impossible.

Not yet. I've only tried baking with ABV once so far. I'm working back up to an ounce though, so I really should figure out what I would like to do with the stuff.
How long does ABV 'keep'? I've been collecting it on my coffee table in a snap top plastic container, and then transferring it to a larger, o-ring sealed glass container. We've saved 100% of our ABV since day zero so far, and I'm glad I caught that tip prior to actually acquiring the vapes.

Thanks though, that's definitely something I will try.
I also saw a video on someone making cannabutter, and washing the cannabutter.

Would it be better to wash the ABV, then make cannabutter, or make the cannabutter and wash it? Both?
I'd wash the ABV. It might eliminate the need to wash further.

I wanted to bust the extreme q out and have been enjoying water recently. Got a 18-14mm male on male glass on glass adapter and just went in to my bubbler that I use with the mighty and tera - just on to the stock cyclone bowl and a basket screen in the 18mm side (this fits nicer than my stock elbow glass and doesn't fall out in the session).

Best experience I've had of the extreme q so far. It's very enjoyable now and has reignited my appreciation for this device. I love how adaptable this is. I was using it for aromatherapy for a few months too.

After seven years my EQ bit the dust. After 2 months I finally ordered an EQ replacement. Arizer has a special price for customers with out of warranty EQs: $109.99 with power supply and remote, but no other parts I can hardly wait. Like having an old friend return.
