Discontinued Ghost MV1

Yep, just wanted to drop in and report that a fine grind like @Baron23 uses for the MV1 is pretty spectacular, even on level 1. It seems like consensus here is that medium to coarse is ideal, but I was surprised at the vapor production and quality of the first low temp draw. Thanks Baron!:clap:

Grinders again...I have three grinders, the onlies I’ve had: a 4” that is definitely coarse, a space case and an off-brand that grinds just like a space case. I’m guessing that those two qualify as coarse/medium for no particular reason. Today I was looking at the new vape grinders, and they have an officially ‘fine-grind’ grinder. And just like that, I want one. Just to have one, to fill a hole I didn’t have before...to find out if I like it for anything.

What strange monkeys we are...

Anyone know if there's a way to "reset" the battery indicator? Now it's quite much useless when it blinks one light quite much 3/4 of the time :D.

It's not a deal breaker, I vape until the thing stops working, then I charge :) :).

I’ve had my Ghost for several days now, and I have to say again how much I’m enjoying it. It really delivers. And it’s so quick to use. I like it, a lot.

Regarding using the usb cable, I’ve noticed that I don’t always get a red light, sometimes it stays off. Sometimes it stays on seemingly forever. It seems to charge ok either way, but it’s odd. The fast charger is more consistent with a red light while charging and green when done. The vape itself shows 3 green lights only for a few draws. Mostly it stays on 2 lights, then eventually one. I charge then.

It lasts through several crucibles, enough that it’s not a worry. I have not tried running it all the way down so I can’t be more precise. I tend to baby my loads along though, so I wind up with a lot of smaller draws, and a lot of reheating because I set it down between. It’s just how I like to use it. I’ll be getting another battery pack, for convenience, but having just the one is fine.

Great vape.

I use kannastor (coarse & fine grind) and s&b grinder (fine grind, if buds dry, very fine grind), works great

Received #4 The Satin Silver this time.
One observation.
The latch on this unit does have slightly more resistance to it than I noticed on the stealth.
The Stealth latch was smoother. The latches just failed while under pressure from the door.

I liked the look of the stealth better.
Ghost CS excellent as always.

As far as grinds. I am also in the fine to medium grind group.

Unwanted recommendation to @ghostvapesofficial on app.
Sticking to the "medical vaporizer" idea.
I would love to see Terpenes/cannabinoids shown at the temp setting they vaporize.
Make them clickable to info on said Terpene/cannabinoid.
EX: In low 338, Pinene (among others) would be listed in the green circle or something.
Click on it and it would show Terpene details.

Helping people more easily understand how the temps can make their medication more effective is good for everyone.
I feel too many people relate "clouds" to effectiveness.
Many have difficulty understanding why people bother stepping/adjusting temps during a sesh, when you can just set it to 5 and "get nice clouds".
With the huge numbers of "older generations" entering the marketplace, this would also give Ghost an edge in the marketplace.
Also. Imagine future partnership opportunities. Like. leafly, or similar.
Enter your strain, and the app auto adjusts/steps temps during sesh according to avg terpene content of strain.

I'd also like to be able to rename my ghost in the app. At least I will when I know this one wont dump me and move back to Cali, like the others. ;)

Does the Ghost MV1 hit as hard as a Dynavap? Mine works beautifully inside but is extremely difficult to use in the winter. I'm debating whether I'd be better off getting a nice IH or just spending extra on an MV1. I have a Mighty that works beautifully for sessions and sharing, and I don't get on with my 510 dry herb vapes all that well.

Yes, it hits as hard, but as to what you should get, only you can decide. I say, save up your money & get both because both are wonderful to have in your arsenal.

As a vapcat myself, I have a solid positive opinion of the vapcaps. I have several, I like all of them.

My experience with MV1 is on hiatus at the moment, but I would absolutely recommend an induction heater for you, hands down, no question. I have not been vaping for much of the last year because my induction heater failed, with much time and extra money spent before a death certificate could be issued. In that time, I kind of lost interest, there seemed to be no better unit available than the one that face-planted so effectively, and I was never a special fan of the whole torch-dependence thing.

Which is how I ended up *here* and not just buying another IH: there are developments, new approaches, but they’re not ready for me yet.

Agreed: they don’t scratch the same itch.

1)
glad you got sorted with a new vape again - good on ghost. Fingers crossed this is 'the one' now.
2) awesome idea with the app. I think any more information we can put in front of people the better. Especially for beginners. Very good idea to have something like a pre programmed strain profile. I'd hazard a guess and say this wouldn't be something ghost would rush in to putting in to the app but I feel this is something that's needed for the dry herb vape community.

@Baron23 - I guess you raise a good point against this. I'm guessing that's why there's so much variation with these numbers too-independent studies. Lack of funding/regulation (weed is bad m'kay). Would you say the same for temperature/effects - like lower temps can be more stimulating vs higher temps more sedating? Do you notice a difference between sativa/indica? I think an abundance of sativa in my supply is leading to me being awake later. Some indica strains make me sleepy at lower temps.

Chipping in about grinds batteries and how hard this thing hits.

Grind - I'm guessing I've not really experienced coarse grind or at least when using vapes. I've got a mini (Amsterdam brand) that could be coarse. I thought it was. I thought the s&b grinder was coarse but it's described as medium fine above. I have a kannastor gr8tr (v2) and I use the fine plate. There is a medium. I prefer the fine but I do have a screen in the bottom of my crucible and put a liquid pad on top. I use 0.03 gram in a crucible and get 2-4 hits some whispy some good. I'm mainly using my ghost units for wake and vape. Couple of quick pulls before leaving the house for work. I found that using a full crucible was using more herb (than the method I'm describing) and wasn't really giving me substantially bigger results.

I microdose. I use cbd hemp buds mainly so getting high isn't a major priority for me. Places I didn't know existed are starting to ache from age and I'm taking matters in to my own hands because in my mind our country does have a good 'health service' but our lifestyle is sort of destructive and prevention is better than any cure.

With the battery. I notice when using the app that one green solid light as an indicator can relate to about 50% on the app. I guess that can be a bit off putting I sort of just put it down to me having to calibrate my expectations of where these indicator LED's are set to the level. E.g. 3 solid 100-90% 2 solid 90-70% this is just me trying to understand the reading too NOT OFFICIAL NUMBERS. I guess if we did have official numbers then we may understand better. I have read that it will last on one flashing green for quite a while and ten there is a flashing red indicator after that too. I have used one battery with one green flashing for 3/4 days (couple of pulls on a morning as described above). A rule for batteries and charging that I used to use was 80/20 - keep your battery charge level inbetween there for best performance/preservation. Although there is a chip inside these packs so it should regulate the charge level somewhere inbetween those levels.

Performance + high. I don't really miss smoking. Quit with help of mighty Feb 2018. I do find that I can get pretty baked without the need of combustion and I enjoy the clearer feel of vaporizing. Sometimes feel like I never get as high (monged) as I used to but I don't miss that foggy groggy feel. Feel like it's 6 of one half a dozen of other.

I bought a dynavap m for the hell of it just before I got the ghost. I enjoy it. I feel like the mv1 has better flavour. I don't like faffing with lighters so the battery and the temperature control make me more happy than when using the dynavap.

I feel like the ghost gives me some decent effects. I don't feel like it's taking me to a whole new level high but it definitely hits me hard and fast. Because of the nature of the mv1 it feels more like hitting a bong or another vape with a none filled bubbler. I still cough when the temp is set high.

I feel like this is all subjective, I may need a t break because I got virgin stoner giggles when I got my mighty. Last night I got new balloons for my volcano and had a 2 meter balloon- felt a little dizzy this morning. I don't want to say this blows your head off because for me it doesn't but it definitely gets me medicated. Sometimes it will take a few (thc bud) crucible and if I'm wanting more/different effects then I adjust the temperature. I prefer having this control over the dynavap.

I prefer using the mv1 to just get the job done. Use the mighty/iq/tera for when I want a bit of a longer more chilled session but i have been steering towards the mv1 more and more lately. I want to try the mv1 through a bubbler/water pipe, just out of curiosity because it is quite smooth as it is.

Also for me crucible dispenser is a must, along with fast charger and maybe an extra battery. I treat myself for christmas and got 2 bundles a stealth and a satin silver 14 crucibles 10 are now set up for micro dose 4 standard. I've said previously I feel a bit OCD with my vape habits and having spares. With my music gear I have spares for spares. Been caught out once too many to find that a cable is faulty or a pre amp isn't working and I've got to cancel a gig/recording session and lose money due to this. Lesson learned - buy cheap buy twice. Take care of things. If it can happen it WILL happen. These things are sent to test us. It's how we deal with it that counts.

Good luck everyone. Sorry for the huge reply.

I think having the usuage recorded in the app would be cool like the crafty. A full record of the time of all sessions being tallied. But eh. Apps needs to be simple. Nothing more.

Start adding stuff like that to the app, it’s going to have an impact - maybe different components to handle the extra overhead is processing and storage. I can see the appeal of access to full telemetry, though - my MV1 has gone catatonic and refuses hear or speak.

It’s last words were “press both buttons at the same time to complete the update” but the back/vape button doesn’t work, and it’s been like this ever since.

ClearBlueLou,
Not me...NV Fine Grinder all day long with the MV1.

Consistent grind seems most important but even packing is also relevant. However 2 reds seem to overcome any deficiencies. I like fine grind with NV grinder works very well.

I get along very well with my MV1. I feel I know now how to make this thing work for me...There's one weird issue though... I think the battery lasts quite much what's expected but the battery indicator lights go from 3 to 2 after first crucible or in the middle of the second, to 1 lights after third and then after say fourth there's one light blinking and it blinks like that until the battery runs out which is still like 60% of the batery :D. I have the fast charger and usually charge with that but didn't use it the first time I loaded the battery. Is there a way to somehow "reset" the battery indicator or is my battery somehow broken?

I have the same light behavior and charge it at one light. Max draws to finish seem about 60. Blinking light about 30

I haven't even tried the MV1 yet but it is difficult to compare a pure convection vape to something like the VC which is actually convection, conduction, and radiant heating all at once. Apples and oranges IMO.

He asked if the Ghost hits as hard as the vc. Regardless of conduction vs. convection, head-wise/effect-wise, they both pack an equal punch imo.

Lol sorry :) normal service resuming-

Been playing with the glass stems. I personally don't feel like they add too much to the experience. Can't remember the name of the material used begins with M for the standard mouthpiece now. I feel like that's a good change that ghost made. It does feel like the glass would break fairly easily. The seal on the glass to the rubber silicone gasket in the heatsink feels a little tighter but the new stock (m material) is fine for me.

I said previously that I use silicone tube as a spacer/stabilizer for the stem. This is probably going to get removed, I feel a lot more comfortable at adjusting the length and I'm more honed in to where I like it now.

Another point I have is the long draws. This did worry me before I purchased my mv1. I would usually 'sip' my session vapes. Never even experienced on demand before this unit. I never had an issue with the draw duration and most of the time I inhale for a few seconds after the time out buzz - I still feel there's a bit of heat/goodness there. The vapour is very cool when I inhale, I usually cough if I go above level 3 (on exhale) but I do that with most vapes at higher temperatures.

I also think I could pull a lot harder than I normally do so my next few 'experiments' are going to be with a standard full crucible and a bigger draw. I'll also try and hook the mouthpiece up to a bubbler some tube and a diy solution will suffice for an experiment

I caved and got the stealth edition. No problems so far and it hits like a champ straight out of the box (actually 10 hours after it came out of the box because of the USB charging).

Just a quick question about charging. I don’t have a fast charger but I figure that’s ok because of my infrequent but regular use. So I fully charged my battery (10hrs!) before first use but is it ok for subsequent charges, to top up but not to full? What I mean is regardless of what the battery level is when starting charging with the USB cord, is it ok to interrupt the charging before it is done? For example, if the battery is half full, can I interrupt the charge at 75% so that I can use it? I figure this would solve the long charging times if I always keep my battery in the 60-90% range.

The battery cost is quite expensive so I don’t want to mess it up accidently.

I'm not a battery expert, I'm not sure if my thinking is still right. It would be nice to have this confirmed or corrected but my way of recharging (aa batteries and phones/devices) was always 80/20 i was told keeping battery charge between these levels was healthier for them in the long run. The public information on the battery packs says something about them being smart or having a microchip inside. These may regulate the charge between those or similar levels or not at all. Might just be powering the led and switching off when the pack is fully charged.

In my mind you're doing the right thing and its actually better than letting the battery deplete - I could be way off the mark here though.

I would still hold it in the back of my mind that batteries only have a certain amount of charge/discharge cycles. It's a battery. It will die eventually.

Here's a link to something that seems to be pretty knowledgeable on the subject. Sorry in advance if this causes any issues -

I vaguely remember reading that regularly topping up the battery on the fast charger is ok. But is it ok to do that with a USB cord?

The mv1 battery looks complicated. Does the fast charger just charge fast or does it also regulate it so that it’s ok to interrupt the charge?

I don't personally think that makes a difference, they are making batteries out of urine now, you can power small lights from lemons. I think of a battery as a chemical solution maybe like a living thing? In charging or discharging you are making it more or less acidic? *this is just made up in my head/understanding not scientific at all.

So to me it doesn't make a difference to the solution in the battery if you give it a full charge or not - it won't harm it. It's going to last as long as it lasts and that's it.

One thing I would be careful of is arcing - @Baron23 I think you mentioned this somewhere before about the mighty and unplugging power adaptor?

I have two batteries, for me I feel like it's a bit overkill but also like I will need it desperately at some point - if I go to a party and want to show it off :)

I think you will be okay - what's your usage like? I guess it would be difficult to tell how much usage you get from one charge - 18650's are said to be able to go through 300-500 charge cycles but I think this also applies to full discharge and recharge so if you used the battery up every day and then recharged overnight you would get minimum 300 days. You're staying 80/20 so in my eyes are taking more care of your battery than fully depleting it and then pumping back up to max. You're saying 'hey battery lets both chill with this awesome vape' and the battery is going ' yeah no worries, you got my back I've got yours'.

Hopefully.

I mean in a metaphor sense not that your battery is talking to you:rofl:

Well, while we are waiting for @ghostvapesofficial to answer the battery questions in the above 3 posts which I'm really interested in the answers to, also, I will add 1 thing:

Don't forget that if you aren't going to be using the vape daily either keep the battery separate from the body or when coupling the 2 parts together don't take the vape out of sleep mode. If you take the vape out of sleep mode then the internal bluetooth (which is perpetually trying to connect with the app) will be activated & the battery will deplete.

What I have been doing after charging is I insert the battery & depress the mode button to confirm the 3 led battery level (makes me feel better) & then I decouple the battery once again before reinserting & don't touch the mode button. @ghostvapesofficial Nerissa, I'm fairly certain that just checking the battery level when in sleep mode doesn't take the vape out of sleep mode. I think that you have to actually turn it on with the 3 clicks to exit sleep mode. Please confirm. And I would like to know what the charging amps are? I would guess that the usb charge is at .5 amps while the fast charger is 2 amps. Thank you.

@Mr Mellish, I finished charging all batteries & can say that yes, the usb charge is red to no light when fully charged. I do have 1 battery that for whatever reason doesn't readily acknowledge a full charge when I remove it from the fast charger & reinsert it on the charger again. Like the others, it may take less than 3 minutes to re-synchronize & go from red to green or it may take a heck of a lot longer. It's not the battery, just the electronics that are off. I'm gonna monitor this battery going forward.

And based on a recent discussion in another thread, what I do now is connect the usb cord to the battery or insert the battery into the fast charger before I insert the plug into the outlet so as not to create an electrical surge (forgot the terminology used) that will damage either. Don't know if it's really necessary with either, but figure at $60 a clip can't hurt to be prudent.

Edited to add after seeing @Some-new-user's above post, I think the electrical surge terminology may be what he referenced as arcing.

Now, the only thing left to do is to finally pay attention to how many crucibles I'm getting per charge & exactly how my battery leds function (decrease) during the battery cycle. @Mr420's, there's no way to reset the battery without recharging, but I do think that the way your leds register battery depletion is odd & I would request a battery exchange. The way yours functions mostly with 1 flashing green light would drive me crazy. I think I get 3 - 4 crucibles before going to 2 leds & another 2 before going down to 1, but then I recharge. Only once have I gotten down to 1 blinking green & red & that was because I left the battery in the vape out of sleep mode.
