Discontinued Haze Square

Lonesome Planet
Is Haze returning the RMA units sent in, or are they locked tight,
toss the keys. No communication.

Sad, if that is the case.

This was in vapelife....perspective I guess.....sorry its long....

I was the original beta tester for the Square. I had one of these for years while it was in development (one version or the other). I cannot begin to tell everyone about the number of issues that arose when this was in development.

By the end of the "beta" period there were still things that I felt needed tweaking. Things like how long the battery would work and how to maximize the life of it. Other things like temp adjustments. The issues with the seals that came in the first production run were just gas on the fire.

But I think Haze was at a point last summer where it was get it out or be gone then. I don't know this for fact but I know enough from dealing with them over the years.

Was the product perfect when released? No but new products rarely are. I do however think it had a ton of potential and I had some of the nicest vapor plooms out of any portable I own. In the end I think this and the dual suffered from being too complex with too many pieces for most individuals. And both probably requiring more effort to clean than anyone desires. And this cleaning in particular impacted the performance. In my opinion it's what caused a lot of the combusting that people reported with the Square. Could this have been avoided? Well possibly I guess but again I don't think they were in a financial position to wait any longer.

How they went out with no notice, well I can see why people would not like it. Particularly those who recently purchased or have pending warranty claims. Yes it really sucks for those people. I feel bad but this is the risk we all take when purchasing products, especially from smaller less known companies. I do know that the owners are not happy. Having worked with them for years I got to know them. I got to know the whole Haze family and even some of the extended family. Trust me when I tell you that this is not how anyone wanted this to end. The principal owner put a lot of money and spent a lifetime away from his family trying to make this work. Nobody is more disappointed to give up a decade of their life to build this baby only to see it all go down the tubes.

Edit: looking back now I know why original.ship.date pushed back by month.....hindsight

I wish I knew some of that before or after release. Had I have known the issues that went on for years in development and why they put it out early I wouldn’t have bought one.

I feel damn terrible. Lol.

And I knew it wasn’t perfect. But I had that upgrade I’ll never get. That’s one of the reasons why I jumped in. It’s a product they should have never released.

I am really relieved, that I sold my square back then for a mighty. It was a fun ride but it was too hard to vape in a social context because of its quirks. That way you can't convert people to vaping.

I thought it was a long and stellar beta program...lots of testers, structure, and division of testing. My testing was very focused. I wasn't aware of what, if any, suggested changes made it to production, but that's nothing unusual. I don't remember communicating with any other testers.

I still love my Square. The main downfall is the battery drains so quickly when sitting there. If I give myself an hour's notice, I can have it fully charged before I need it. Fuck...I really wanted this one to succeed.

Is there a way I can make my Square work? It seems like the only issue i have is the air seal. The silicone seal is one piece instead of being an o-ring. I wonder if i could just swap it with an o-ring to make due. I'd hate to chuck it down the street.

Good to know its not just my unit whose battery constantly drains

They were not prepared. They sat on a unit for 2 years and then said fuck it and needed to get it out with all its flaws.

Fail by not releasing it due to too many issues. Or fail by releasing it and not being able to keep up with the repairs.

They shouldn’t have done it period. That many issues from 2016 should have just scraped it

But they pushed the product. And tried to get as many pre orders. And promised free upgrades.

Picked up the ghost mv1 stealth edition. Very nice. Did a few crucibles with no troubles at all. That cleared the angry “Haze” I’ve been in since finding out they went out of business.

The ghost hit like a champ and I love the crucible size. One haze pod is the equivalent of 2.5 to 3 ghost crucibles. I love being able to split my material into smaller quantities. Did about 15 draws over 3 crucibles at pretty much 428F the whole time and it’s still showing full battery.

Just a little nervous because there have been quite a few reports that the latch breaks easily on the stealth edition. I told myself to get the black chrome but when I saw the stealth black, i couldn’t resist.

Since I have two units an d use hard all day llong....and was told by haze I was swelling batteries due to draining them to completely.out.....they then recommended charging when it.gets.down to 15%......how are you expected to get thru 4 pods on 85% charge???????Hence a big.problem....and mine last two months before.I change them..due to fact a full charge.can only get thru 1 pod.....This imo is major issue besides.lack of.capital....

My battery drains when I don’t use the thing. It’s fucked. I charge before I use nightly.

I only ever got to vape 2 bowls in my square before it stopped working months ago (my second bowl combusted and my unit wasn't ever the same after that. My mouth piece didn't even seal correctly anymore). It stopped firing after that and I had to open it up to fix it via some instructions I got. Much like another member here, some bits from one side of the coil had come off/burnt off and were sitting below it preventing it from firing. After removing those bits the device would fire again but would never stop firing. My coil always stays red hot now when firing no matter what temp is set so I just gave up and stick with my dual for portable use.

I got it as an upgrade and was supposed to return my dual for it (I'd already paid them 100 for the initial upgrade) but my square failed before I even mailed my dual back so I just held onto it until I could get the square sent in as well. Looks like I made a good decision in the end but boy was I ever hyped about this device. I don't think there is a portable out that holds as much flower as the square did and obviously some users were able to use that bowl size to it's true potential. The problem with the dual like most portables is the need to bring extra stuff to contain your avb and your extra bowls and batteries.
