Decided on a Splinter v1 or Z, neither are currently available so meantime I'm looking at box mods.

Can someone advise if this would be a good match for a Splinter? Came across this and liked the round display and dial type graphics wallpaper.

Or maybe the question belongs here?:

I've already looked at most the mods that were suggested in that thread and both splinter threads, just seeing what else is out there of interest that would work.

You'd be on your own. Could work or could not... when I read "anti dry-burn tech" I immediately think of the reported problem with YiHi chipset mods that make them unsuitable for our applications.

No idea how TC is implemented on that device. Could be crappy, could be good. Problem is: you'll only find e-liquid mod reviewers and 95% of them will start their review by "I didn't test TC mode because I only use VW mode". And the few who really test TC don't test it under our conditions...

And it will obviously not support ArticFox and company.

So yeah, it's you call mate, but beware that you might just end up with a $50 paperweight.

PS: of course it will work in VW mode and that might be enough for you?

@LambsBreath, the reason almost everyone uses the same mods is because of the limited available firmware upgrades that allow increased firing time, cruise & autofire. There was one mod I really liked, & sticking with wattage would have been fine with me, but no way to increase the firing time from the usual 10 sec., & I didn't want to keep having to re-fire to extend the time, even more of an annoyance when using a water piece.

I'm sure you must have looked at this small thread:

iPV5 is weird but works.

set it to max temp of 428, Joule=wattage with no cutoff.

I can hold the power button down for more than 10 seconds without it doing auto cutoff.

flavor at 20J/W is amaing. 27w was my max and my AVB was dark brown.

With Ryan originally wattage only, and even selling several devices that are unregulated, it's ironic we've ended up with high end box mods, ArcticFox, cruise mode, and fretting about not having to hold down the button or, heaven help us, pulse.

I have a V1 pre ordered and I have had a splinter z and a Zion but...I’ll probably just stick with my Mi2 thank you.

innokin proton 18 sec cut off

Yes I think I'd like to try the cruise/autofire feature so I suppose I should stick to looking only at the mods that support one of the firmware upgrades, however...

I did look at that small thread, and it made me want to just use wattage mode. Not sure I'm willing to afford the time to immerse myself that deep into the complications and variables of getting the upgrade installed, set up and working properly.

That said, aside from the having cruise, the mod wilky mentioned above (or one like it) would work fine in wattage mode and have increased firing time. And it also could be used in TC mode correct?

Honestly, I have no interest in cruise, or temp control...I have a Mighty, a Crafty and a Plenty. Great vapes all three, but for me they’re just boring as fuck. I use herb principally for pain relief and sleep. Besides the obvious material savings, manual vapes such as my logs, RBT’s and VC’s rule the day for the sheer joy of the interaction. The craftsmanship and beautiful woods, plus the demand that you learn and stay in touch with their operating quirks lead to another pleasing aspect of these on-demand un-regulated products.

To that end, it’s all wattage mode for me. My little Splinter family has become my go-to in the evening, after a day out with VC’s and carts.:2c:

Yes, as far as I know that is correct -- both in TC & wattage. I have the Wismec Sinuous Savage & it has a 15 sec. cutoff which is a perfect length for me. The one wilky mentioned appears to have a side fire bar like mine which I love. The only plus of mine, for me, is that the 510 connector is centered. I like symmetry. :) I didn't even know that it had a 15 sec. cutoff until I had it in hand. Unfortunately, this spec is usually not listed & if it is it's usually 10 sec. The reason I went with the Savage is because I can use Red Panda with it (Arctic Fox for color screens) & sur_myevic for cruise or autofire, although, to-date, have only used wattage.

If anyone comes across any mods that have a longer firing time, please do post it in this thread:

Why is it weird? And is there no cutoff whatsoever in TC mode? And no cutoff in straight wattage mode?

and fretting about not having to hold down the button or, heaven help us, pulse.

For me, depressing the fire button upside down on a water piece while monitoring my draw is fine. But having to also be cognizant of having to repress the fire button at a certain point was just too busy & ruined the enjoyment. The inclusion of that add'l. step went from being a ritual to a chore.

Besides the obvious material savings, manual vapes such as my logs, RBT’s and VC’s rule the day for the sheer joy of the interaction.

I have all those + add in the Ghost & I'm in heaven.

You got rid of the Z? If so, why? And, if so, curious as to why you would have gotten a V1?

Thanks for this reply, you mentioned this (Wismec Sinuous Ravage230) in an earlier post somewhere that I've been trying to find again and couldn't! Gave up looking actually!

I think I'd like these side "fire bar" buttons, and I primarily agree about the 510 being centered, but I could see it being comfortable off center as well, depending on where the fire button is located and how you would hold it in use.

I'll try and find a mod I like that accepts one of the firmware upgrades even if I only use wattage at first, then I'll have the option of trying TC and cruise at some point as well. Thanks to a previous post of yours I learned the three firmwares (Funky Junk, sur_myevic, and Arctic Fox) and that Wismec and Evic mods are the most popular, or get a dna chip mod (more expensive) & use escribe software.

All good stuff!

Nice thanks for posting, the shape looks like it would be very ergonomic, and wood-grain inserts!

DNA chip so I assume this one would use the escribe firmware. Curious what the (default) firing cut-off time is.

For me it was purely a financial decision after going crazy buying multiple vapes a while ago and had to back it down a bit. Like I said, it’s an awesome unit! But then I couldn’t pass up the pre order price in the V1 or the crazy special price of the mi2 after the darkside discount(I believe that was the one) of $148 shipped to my door. The Mi2 has been my most used vape lately and after almost mastering it I’ll just throw the V1 on a cheap single cell mod, set it to 40-45 watts(same as ungegulated mi2) and hope to have similar results. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a gadget geek and had the Z working great in replay mode and tc mide on a 250c mod but in reality these things are pretty simple and easy to master in wattage mode on a simple mod even with a 10 second shut off. I like the heat feedback I get and lift off the button for a few seconds before pushing it again on the mi2 before 10 seconds anyway. I preheat for 3-5 seconds(depending on what length stem I’m using, 19 or 22) then let off to prep my lungs then hit it. The stem you use has so much more to do with how to use these things then anything else I believe. 19 or 22mm, short or long, how deep your internal screen is pushed in or if your just packing the tip of a top hat screen. Once you get use to the heat feedback it doesn’t matter what stem setup your using, I know just when to let off the fire button. If your using replay or TC and change stem setup you need all new mod settings. This is just my opinion and best for me. Also, a mod, the Z and a long Stem is a TALL vape and easily a tip over disaster waiting to happen in my world, lol.

The ArcticFox crowd talking about cruise mode seems to aim for continuous RBT performance like a Flowerpot VROD on glass. If that makes sense at all, it's only for the heaviest of heavy hitters.

I know Ryan ultimately pivoted on wattage only and even seemed positive about ArcticFox ... when trying to blow out his inventory. I don't think he did his brand any favors.

Half the postings here today would be at home on an ecig mechmod forum. That's a sad late stage for the RBT story.

I'm kind of losing track of Ryan, who went from overcommunicating ... live streams and a dump truck of FreeWillyMilaana! promotions ... to less than zero on my radar screen.

Starting to feel very late stage. If there's any fresh news on Ryan, I hope it achieves higher visibility on FC.

I wonder if so many of these postings are because people here like playing around with the tech. I've found with my z and its box mod that I push the on button for a few seconds and I get great heat that lasts as long as I need it. Nothing to fool around with but I'm not a very techy person. Someone else might enjoy playing with the settings. I have a tubo so I'm familiar with cruise mode but don't really need it with my Z.

my mod has a cutoff of 10s in wattage mode, 20s in temp control mode.

trying to sell it is the hard part. It's great, heats up fast and doesnt bullshit, but I like my evics better.

His old Instagram got blocked by the way, he is now buddharastatao there and is still active if that helps at all? Honestly I think he is pretty happy about this stage of the story, he just gets to make great simple heaters and she doesn't have to worry about all the tech to control them anymore... I was pretty iffy on this, but now that I have a Z I can definitely see the appeal and will have to get a V1 at some point since I missed the OGs

I picked up a V1 and now I see He’s making a black wood/ black glass version which I’m already drooling over. Stay posted !

Sounds awesome, where can we see can that?

The v1 Pre-Order listings were removed from RBT's site, happened sometime within the last couple of days.

I can't speak to the DNA75C since I don't have one. DNA250C can be set to go to 20 sec firing time.
The DNA 75 has a Boost setting that quickens the heat up time. Mine has been set at the highest value since I got it. Never used it as a session vape, that's what my mighty and Evo is for. Just a heads up for.those looking. Lost vape is awesome but the way the battery box is set up makes it so I destroy my batteries. Have to rewrap them quite often.
