The cross cut Zebrano was always going to be a challenge with the end grain running the full length.
Macassar Ebony ends six flute twist with aluminium accents.

The first application of wax on some woods really makes it pop.

My little one wanted a helmet with comb, not sure exactly what she had in mind.

Got a new Forstner bit which reinforced how piss poor my drill press actually is.
Sumac, Leadwood and Crab Apple.
The Sumac must have been topped as it was growing which caused it to split into two.
It's this Y shaped piece I've used hence the pith holes.

@Whisper thank you, I'll be chasing up some Cocobolo in the New Year.

Leadwood enclosure which came from a bowl blank I bought at the local turners show.
This stuff is really dense and rock hard, catch it wrong and it digs out big chunks.

Finish at 600 grit is so smooth, no wax in this clip

Sumac never disappoints, the branch this came from has been sat waiting for the right turn.

Sumac not really being a wood has this thick spongy pith in the centre, the mishap lead to more than on centre and more pith.

Crab Apple which played hard to get where the end grain was concerned, the keenest edge being on my roughing gouge. Well overdue sharpening session tomorrow.

And this is the reason that I won't turn in anything other than a forced air helmet

Been meaning to try out this idea for a while just didn't expect a dirty big hole to appear.
I bought a few silicone pots so I'll see where else the idea goes.
