My Z arrived on Christmas eve but it has a chemical odor when I heat it up... I'm no expert but maybe some glue or adhesive burning off??

I've been alternately blowing in the two air holes and blowing down into the heater with an empty short stem. Haven't gotten it odor free yet so it's not in use.

Was this a thing for anybody else and what did you do to resolve the issue? Thanks.
Are you sure it’s not the odor of the wood?

I was going to say the same thing, are you sure its not the smell of fresh wood? That does take some time to break in depending on the species... The adhesive does not need to burn off, it is set and secure safe for these temps, but there could potentially be oils or something from manufacturing to burn off (though Ryan does this himself before shipping so there really shouldn't be any of that either)... My Canarywood Z neutralized pretty quick for me, though it took a little time from fresh wood, so that is a good species odor/taste wise, but I know walnut and cherry do take quite a bit longer to break in for example

It had a headachy chemical odor that would leave me surprised if it turned out to be the wood normalizing (my Z is a two hole bubinga, btw).

I've been burning it of some more like I described earlier and not noticing an odor now. I'll sniff around some more and report back later. Thanks for the responses.

Update: still no more odor on heat up so I adjusted my wismec rx gen3 dual running Arctic Fox for the Splinter Z to TCR 150, 38W, .4ohms locked. Three great hits with no charring at 370, 360, and 350. The Z reminds me of the Datsun 240Z I drove once when I was a teen. Just letting the clutch out in each gear you could feel the motor sit you back in your seat.

My z also arrived christmas eve and did not notice any odor, fwiw

Ebay coupon POPUPSAVINGS brings the bronze wismec dna250 from some US sellers to $67. Good for the next five or six hours and might be worth pricing other mods or whatever you're into.

Sorry for the ot post: just sharing a deal with my FC 510 peeps!

damn... expired...

Ah sorry man, you missed it? I thought you might have already ordered it before. I had to jump on this 15% after just missing the 10% on eBay... Not sure the cheapest place to get 3 new batts though, shipping at imr kills the deal

HG2s are $5.50 currently at illumn. Not bad... $4 shipping

$4.99 at IMR... $6.50 shipping

Hmm don't wanna go too far off topic here, but yeah something about paying $20 for three batteries still doesn't sit too well lol I guess I feel like I had found free shipping when I ordered two pair the last time? Not sure from where... Also been looking at HE4 25R VTC4 since they're cheaper (30Q maybe) and this is going to be three of them anyway capacity wise... I only have two-bay chargers though so need to charge in the mod I guess. Illumn does seem better than IMR at least! Thx

Prior to the Zion I had never used 18650s at all. Now I have the Zion, the Milaana and the Mod for the Splinter and the Z. I also have one very cheap flashlight that uses them but only needs one so gets the broken pairs when one misbehaves.
Another mod will be coming too, but only when I find it cheap.
The last 3 sets of batteries I have bought have been HG2s or 30Qs. I started out with the HE4s for the Zion.

Hey Splinter-Fans, need an advice to cure my VAS for a moment.

Has anyone experience with a Splinter (Z or Standard) and a TUBO Evic?
Is there a noticeable difference in the vape characteristics or are they too similar in the experience to own both?
Are the mouthpieces from both worlds compatible or do they need their own because of different depths?

I consider myself a flavor chaser and micro-doser, so always looking for devices that can get the most flavor out of tiny bits of material.
I'm generaly happy with the Tubo as my go to vape at home, but I noticed a few flaws using it when alone. Vaping my standard dosage of 0.05g at about 190°C in a cold Tubo needs a tad too much time to heat up and generate clouds, when the clouds finally are visible the flavor is long gone, even with a pre heatup circle. Things change when I use more material, then the TUBO really shines, but it is this gap I would love to fill.
Is the Splinter Z with a good mod in wattage mode better at quickly extracting on demand with flavor and clouds or is the ramp up time about the same?
Also I asume that the Z would be the better choice for my needs compared to the Standard Version?

The Z is fully compatible. New Splinters are shorter so will not accept TUBO stems but a Splinter stem fits into a TUBO or Z.

You can get a big flavourful cloud within 8-10 seconds of pressing fire from cold. Not sure how that compares to TUBO range but more than fast enough for me.

They are definitely quite different despite similarities, there is a lot the Splinter can do over the Tubo and vice versa. I would say they can be quite complimentary and yeah all Splinter stems will fit in the Tubo (but not usually the other way around) while accessories from other manufacturers can fit both too

The newer version of the Splinter is the only RBT version with a shorter (19mm) female joint, so the only one that won't take the standard (22mm) RBT male adapters and stems. I'm guessing that the new Splinter China also has the shorter female from the pics we have seen, like this one.

The Splinter Z still has the longer joint. Longer joints can take shorter stems with no problem. The reverse is not true.

Right, and the Tubo is ISO 26mm so RBT stems will fit perfectly in it, but most Tubo stems will not fit in RBT vapes

Just to update, after a lot of hunting around I found some other good spots to buy batteries: orbtronic & rtdvapor are solid, but I think I may end up at lightningvapes thanks to a coupon code that offsets what was already the lowest shipping. Also they have 30Qs cheaper than 25Rs so I might as well go with the larger capacity after all! (their LGs are sold out btw, Sonys always pricy) I know I am being ridiculous over what amounts to a few dollars but it feels better psychologically as I continue to spend more money I don't have

I don't know why, but I was just hoping for some green batteries finally to differentiate lol Either way I am going to be leaving them in the ReuleauxDNA since I only have 2bay chargers and will be just one throuple, kinda looking forward to not having to remove and replace batteries at all actually...

I have really been enjoying my Z on the Gen3Dual in power mode still with the stock firmware... I think it will be amazing to have temp control however this is delivering that full-bodied RBT vapor signature so well that I wonder if TC might affect that phenomenon?

My gen 3 has been all over the place with TC so I’ve been cruising on Wattage mode. As long as you are careful with heat buildup it’s very enjoyable

LOL I also only own pink 30Qs and was looking for a reason to get a different color.

I have my Z on a rx gen3 dual running Arctic Fox and TC is really working well. I think I shared my settings in a prior post.

I'm keen to cruise with the bronze dna that's in the mail so I'm guessing tubo will be the move.

You R either a expert vaporize or vas person?
What is the function of wood?

Is it 4 BLING?

Heat source?
Skin or shell?

Ah it won't work with tubo software, DNA can't cruise but gets good temps supposedly... sur_myevic can with autofire though which is why I am probably going to try that over arctic fox on my own RXG3D at some point... I actually have mostly LG's yellow HE4s and brown HG2s, just one 30Q now

Haha yes I am both probably!

The wood is a shell, protects the glass and shields the heat, looks pretty too!

I remember you had wood concerns in the past, I still think it is worth getting one to try and see how neutral it will be for you! I find these vapes to be the most pure tasting personally with all the glass

I'd like to read more detail about what you see as the differing strengths of each. I've been using my z a bit more now while sorting through mods although I think I'm staying with the p80 now. But I love my tubo. Just wondering about your thoughts.

Too much I can't even lol at least not here (off topic?) not now sorry maybe some day... Should spend more time with both

Actually, I have noticed that using an xlr8r in the Z gets more charring than my longer stem from @Alan.

I think it is caused by attempting to overcome the added distance from heat source to medicine.

I was thinking about asking Ryan what it would cost to have a 19/22 xl8r as opposed to the 19/19 model.
